Packing Breakfast

I have never, as a child or adult, used the DDP. When I was young, my parents packed cereal, bowls, and spoons. Each morning, we would stop at the cafeteria and pick up cartons of milk. We then ate in our room and took off for the bus stop. This made the mornings move very smoothly, and allowed us to not have to be in too much of a rush to be at the parks for opening. Not only did it save time, but it also saved us a great deal of money.

DH and I also brought cereal for our honeymoon to give us some extra time in the morning. With the coffee pots in the rooms at POFQ, we were able to just be together and chill out for a bit before rushing off to the parks for opening. :coffee:

We did take one morning to go to Kona Cafe, but other than that breakfast was our $$$$ saver! :) It really allowed us to spend a bit more for a more romantic, relaxed dinner within our budget.

Just thought I'd share this tip with everyone. I hope someone else finds it useful!

Our fourth family trip is coming up right after Christmas. We do the DDP, but always eat breakfast in the room (unless we have a Character meal). I take cereal, pop tarts, banana bread, muffins, fruit, OJ bottles, etc.. Instead of going to get milk from the food court I take milk cartons that don't have to be refrigerated. I found it at the grocery store on the shelf near the soy milk. You can chill the milk in your room fridge or cooler of ice before you need it. We drive, so we are able to take a lot with us.

I also take snack bars and water into the parks.

We share out snack credits and save them for special treats.

After three band trips I finally learned on the fourth one that there's nothing like a breakfast that you're used too. I plan on packing my Honey Nut Cheerios with me when we go in May

We take a cooler from home as we drive down so there fore we can have our milk for cereal. Big advantage is I get the cereal an milk out along with the bowls and spoons needed pretty much 1st thing sometimes even set table night before everything but the milk.

While DH showers I usually try to eat with DD or if I happen to shower 1st DH and DD are eating sometimes we end up with 1 in shower 1 dressing 1 eating anyway it works well that we not all eating at the same time as only 2 can sit at table an it gets us out the door a bit faster if we multi tasking on our out the door duties.

Don't forget instant oatmeal! You don't even need milk and can use the coffee machine to heat the water.

I'm a huge fan of packing (yes, in my checked or carryon luggage ) a bag of bagels - from your bread aisle... packs of 6... and each morning, after I shower, I take a bagel ( held on my finger ) and my refillable mug and hike on down to the cafe at my resort ( usually pop or por ) and toast my "free" bagel and slap on some "free" butter from next to the soda stations and grab me some fruit punch or tea in my "free" mug.. It usually holds me over until lunch ... sometimes I splurge and grab a side of bacon... but usually this is enough... CHEAP too.. I think bagels are like 2 dollars each at the resort and I get a bag of 6 for about 2.50.. If you don't feel like carrying bagels on the plane, you can buy them at the DVC resorts and sometimes the riverside gift shop sells them.... not a bad idea.. this is one of my biggest disney money saving tips... and could really work for a large family... it's also easy to eat on the run.... I usually eat mine on the go, while I walk to the bus stop. Hope this helps! :yay:

Last year I packed granola bars. I would eat one while waiting for the bus, and take another with me for a snack before lunch.

I like the ideas so far: cereal, oatmeal, and bagels sound great.

last year I brought instant milk I think it's called. I don't remember using it, but if you have a refridgerator and some water bottles, you could save alot of money as milk is pretty costly.

We stay at Moderates, which include a fridge.

We get a grocery delivery.

Bagels, margarine, cream cheese, American cheese, yogurt, cold cereal, milk, several kinds of fresh fruit, OJ, etc. ALSO: packets of instant oatmeal -- heat up water in the in-room coffee maker!

We're staying at POR in June & I plan on packing cereal bars, Little Debbie cakes, mini muffins & such for breakfast & just getting a 1/2 gal milk at the gift shop for our fridge. Those things the kids can eat while we are finishing up getting ready or on the walk to the bus in the morning.

I did most of this a few years ago when I took my DD (then 5) for a short trip. She ate her breakfast (I had bought cereal bars and those mini-cereal boxes that come together, but only took a few, and got milk from the store at POR. I also packed plastic spoons/bowls) while I finished getting myself ready. I also brought snacks from home- granola bars, goldfish, pretzels, water bottles- and had those in my oversized bag for us to enjoy while waiting in line. Worked great!
I think I may try the bagel thing this trip. My kids and I don't need it toasted, and mine like it with peanut butter.

We get a grocery delivery, but cereal prices down there are like $2 more a box :scared1:

So we have fresh or heavy items delivered: milk, butter, cream cheese, water, etc. Then we bring down a large box of each persons favorite cereal :thumbsup2

I like the tip, and for those of you on the DDP we like to use our snack for breakfast to get a bagal, muffin, cereal (milk is included on this one). I try to pack as light as possible and since the DDP offers so much food at other meals I am not so worried about a big breakfast.

Because we fly down, we always send our breakfast foods down in a big box, ahead of time, along with the snack packs, fruit bars, Pringles, pudding packs, diapers, wipes, etc. We buy milk on the way back to the room each evening, and keep it in the ice bucket over night.

We took breakfast food as well as some snacks for the evenings after returning from the park. My niece would always be hungry for something and peanut butter crackers seemed to do the trick.

We also took them into the park as we were either in line or maybe on the bus between parks.

We also send ahead a box.... I buy a couple of boxes of cereal, plstic bowls and spoons and snacks. it is always waiting for us at the hotel when we arrive. We purchae milk from the gift shop (you can use 1 credit from the DDP) and that lasts a couple of days. With 2 teenagers and 2 adults trying to get ready this makes for a smoother morning for all of us....

For our all girls trip me, my sister(33) and her daughter(4) will be packing lots of snacks, but most impotant breakfast food. My family and I vacation at WDW for a week each summer and I have figured that breakfast alone can cost a fortune:scared1: . The girls trip I am planning on cereal, oatmeal, (btw, thanks for the coffee pot for hot water idea!) and maybe a few pieces of fruit. We all need to eat healthier and this will get something in our bellies that will stay with us all morning long. See ya'll in Feb!:thumbsup2

If you check in the cereal aisle (I've seen them at Target) they have cereal packaged in disposable bowls. And those little boxes are also meant to be used as bowls. They have perforations to open up the boxes and add milk. As pps have mentioned, there are single servings of shelf stable milk, even chocolate, as well as juices.

This may sound odd, but I've heard of people making hot sandwiches with the hotel iron. I bet it would work on frozen pancakes and waffles, frozen pastries, etc.

I'm already starting to collet stuff for our trip in March, so far i have 2 boxes of cereal, pop tarts, go tarts (i love thoes things LOL), and i plan to p/u some oatmeal, me and dh could go w/ out bfast easily but the kids have to eat before we leave!!! I plan to use our snack credits for evening snacks b/c most of our dinners are 4:30-5:45 so pretty early... I also plan to take a case of bottled water, and still need to get a few more things... i did find some bowls that are washable plastic from mendards on clearance for 4 bowls for .40 so i can wash them out and through them away on our last day.
