I love to see my niece and nephew.. I didn't know that Sawyer and Mac's birthdays were so close. I LOVE Tessas Buzz lightyear dress. We are making Lily a Toy Story dress for DHS for this trip. I wanted to do Lil' Einsteins but alas had no rocket fabric and then found great toy story fabric at JA's . Plus there is Toy Story Mania to be celebrated, DHS really needed to update some old rides and add some new ones, don'tcha think.

Just dropping by to say a quick hi...we got back from our trip yesterday, and I have been busy doing laundry and unpacking....haven't had a chance to catch up on the board...I probably will start a trip report sometime this week...everyone had a great time, and dh is already talking about going back next year...

I am fixing to make my first patchwork twirl skirt. I've made many 3 tier twirl skirts but never with the patchwork. Can anyone tell me what size to cut the squares? Any tips to make it easier?

Also, would anyone out there be willing to pick up some Buzz Lightyear material for me. My Hancocks doesn't have it.

Darn those DH's liking to spend time with us! It sounds like your theme night was fun! What a great idea! Where did you get a copy of Snow White? I am anxiously awaiting it being released from the vault (along with Beauty and the Beast).

I have Snow White on VHS. I have had it for many, many years. I started collecting Disney movies when I was a teenager. I would love to have them all on DVD, but I have too many on VHS!

Tessa picked out the green fabric, she's been bugging me to make her something green. This is Simplicity 2909.

Here he is blowing out his candle. Actually, he was just blowing, he never did quite get it blown out, Armind had to help him along. I see in this picture he was already sampling the cake...no wonder no one seemed too anxious to eat it! :rotfl2:

Here's the only picture I got of them together in their matching outfits. :sad2:

I love the buzz dress! They look so cute in the matching outfits! I can't take on another project!

I am making the squares 5"X5". That way once sewn they will be 4"X4" using a 1/2 inch hem. Any smaller and I would be cutting forever! I did debate on doing 6X6 but it didn't work out right with my numbers!

I have been lurking around for a few weeks and have decided to take the plunge. We are going on our first trip to WDW in Feb. I love all of the outfits!!! I have been tempted to buy on :wizard: but with the number of outfits I want my budget doesn't allow for it. I have no clue how to sew but my mom is awesome at it. She could do the outfits but I really don't want to put it all on her. So I have decided to try it out for myself. What sewing machine does anyone suggest?

My DD is 2 (almost 3) and wears a size 3. I make hers with 4" squares, which means I cut 4 1/2" and use a 1/4" seam allowance. I use 10 squares for the top tier, 20 for the middle tier, and 40 :scared1: for the bottom tier. This will give you 12" length. Then I decide how much longer than 12" I want it and cut a strip of fabric 40"X however many inches I want to add plus 1/4" for bottom seam allowance and about 1 1/4" for the casing on the top. So if I want a 15" long skirt, I will cut my waistband strip 40" X 4 1/2" Here's a photo (or two) :rotfl:

I just realized that DD10's BFF10 who is kinda small (and skinny) can actually wear DD2's skirts  because I make them shin length on Lily and DD's friend like's them knee length. I'll have to talk her into modeling for me :lmao:

There is also a tutorial in the bookmarks on pg 1 if you are trying to figure out how to make a size other than Lily size. Frankly I like when Jeanne gives out Lily size directions cause then I don't have to figure stuff out for myself!:rotfl:

Hi and welcome!!! I just started a couple months ago myself. I am ofically addicted now. I have a singer macine from walmart called the singer simple. It is not computerized so you are limited as to the size of stitches by what is on the dial, but for a beginner it was very easy to learn. It was a about $100. If you can spend a little more several of the ladies have been complimentary of their computerized brother brand machines.

Hi all! I had a long, busy weekend so I haven't had a chance to catch up with you all. But, I wanted to post pictures of Tessa's Buzz Lightyear dress that I made her to match Sawyer's Buzz Lightyear shirt. His birthday party was yesterday and it was a Toy Story theme. Here's some pictures:

Here's Sawyer's cake. I didn't get too imaginative with it this year.

Beeeyutiful! I like that pattern you used for Tessa's dress and Sawyer looks so cute blowing out his candles! And great job on the cake! I don't do ckae's well AT ALL. I guess you'll have to be the one to make them for the grandbabies :lmao:

Well, I wouldn't have posted my directions if her DDS had been like 6 and 8 or something, :snooty: but since they are 2 and 4 I think it could work for either size :rotfl: She may have a "Lily size" in there somewhere!

LOVE Tessa's dress! LOVE the cake!! LOVE Sawyer's shirt!!! Looks like a fun day!!!

Of course I wanted to smack my dd8 she actually said to me that I needed to take a break from sewing! My guess is she is tired of me dragging them to fabric stores!:rotfl2: :rotfl: You would think the mittle brat would be happy I am wanting to make her cute clothes!:duck: :furious: Oh well DS5 will just ahve to get the next few then! I bet once she sees he is getting a bunch of cute stuff she will change her tune real fast.::yes::
My DD9 told me she didn't want me to make her a dress for Chef Mickey's.:worried: I told her I was going to make it and she was going to wear it to breakfast but she didn't have to wear it any other time. I think she'll really enjoy it all once she's there. I think she's afraid I'm going to use the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse book panels for her.

Just want to say welcome! Can't give you sewing machine advice.

Here is what I made yesterday and today. It is for my friend's daughter. I am not feeling the love for it but I had a hard time finding a third fabric I liked so I did the patchwork tier. Oh well, I hope she doesn't hate it anyway. She is my best customer :rotfl: I think I'll throw in a free headband or something.

It must be the age! Nikki will just have to suck it up and be happy it could be worse I could be making her do math all summer instead of making her pretty things!:rotfl2: Problem is Nikki would be happy doing math! I have the 2nd(almost 3rd grader) that is almost doe with Harry Potter 3!

Okay, here is last Friday's Walmart fabric find story. I must preface it by saing I loves me some polka dots!!!

SO I ran to Walmart to pick up some black with white polka dots to finish Dniece's WallE dress--that's it, that's all I needed :rotfl2: I strolled past the remnant bin and spotted HOT PINK MINNIE DOT!! :cool1: but they only had 20" :worried: so I ask if they have any more polka dot. The Walmart fabric lady told me she had a bunch on her $2 table. I asked if she had any more hot pink, she said no. Would they get any more in? No. Did other walmarts have it? No. She then in an very un-walmartish way proceeded to be chatty and informative :confused3 She said she talked her manager into ordering something to fill up her sparse $2 table and he reluctantly agreed, but it would be a one time deal. She personally picked out the polka dots. She ordered 4 bolts of each color, 1 large dot w/white dots on color, 1 large dot w/color dots on white, and the same in the small dots. By the time I got there most of the large white dots on colors was gone--they had even had red. And one of those blues would have worked for a retro Minnie skirt. :( I got a yard of nearly everything they had left, except the large red dots on white on the far right, I bought all they had of that. Now if you will notice the blue and yellow in the middle are perfect Donald Duck colors! I did get the reverse hot pink minnie dot and the teeny reverse hot pink minnie dot. It looks a little redder in the photos. IRL it is a good hot pink. I have no idea what I will do with any of this :rotfl: but it really made me happy.

Here's a quarter to show you the size. I wish I had gone to Walmart about a week earlier!

LOVE the patriotic twirl skirt Jeanne. HEY! I was just trying to be helpful. Maybe someday she wanted to make ANOTHER size skirt, or someome else *cough*lurkers*cough* saw the post and thought they'd like to make one in ANOTHER size. I toldja, Lily sized works for me..but not everyone HAS a Lily- they are a rare breed of princess.

Just in case you were all waiting with baited breath for it,

Thanks:thumbsup2 I am still nervous about it but am going to get my machine this weekend. What did you start with that eased you into sewing? I want to jump in but don't want to drown.

Alot of us use the Brother CS6000i from Walmart for about $180. I love mine.

Here is one dress that got done. DD2 is wearing it, so messy face and chasing her to get pictures was alot of fun. :hyper: :hyper: DD4 was at gymnastics but has the same dress.
