Yes, we need some sort of special event planned for us all! Any ideas!

Who all is definitely going in Jan/February and who is thinking of going? I'll start a list and you copy and paste the list and add yourself! Add your name if you live in Florida and you want to drive there to meet us for the day, too.

Definitely going in Jan/February:

HeatherSue: 2/3-2/10

Maybe going in February:

I would love to go in February - I would have to work on DH though! I would be travelling on my own, sans enfants! I usually try to have a "Mummy Only" trip once a year and this year's trip to Boston/Cape Cod was cancelled due to DH's work schedule. So I'd say I was due!!

Stephanie

I would do 2 layers. The one I did for Zoe I started with 1 layer and quickly knew it wasn't full enough. The second layer really helped. I think when I do another one, I may make a 3rd layer but it wouldn't be quite as full as the top 2 - it would mostly be there to have more "fluff" at the hem to add more volume to the silhouette.

It looks like you got some very detailed explanations already. I just wanted to add that the biggest thing to consider is your total length for the skirt and then to make sure each tier is at least double the one above it. As long as it's at least double, you really can't go wrong so it's easy to add an extra patch or two to get a full repeat of the prints.

Thanks! You have been a huge help!

I don't want to through any more numbers at you, so I will just say that I agree about having a casing and don't forget about adding the length of the ruffle in your calculations (if you're having one). And if you want extra twirl factor make 2.5 or 3 times the previous layer for the bottom tier especially.
Good luck it's not as difficult as it sounds.

thanks! i have copied all these posts so I can look at them tomorrow when hopefully I am not so frazzled.

I think maybe we should go over the fullness thing again. I noticed someones post said they made their skirt 1.5x full and i thought that couldn't possibly be right. It must have been 2.5x. I think the fullness factor may be confusing to some newer sewers. 2x full would be the measurement of your DD's chest(for a twirl top) or waist (for a twirl skirt) x2 plus seam allowances. This will give you a slight gather Like this one.

For a fuller twirlier skirt you can make this measurement 2.5-3x full. I prefer a 3x full skirt for maximum twirl potential and easier math:thumbsup2

Like this one!

Such cute pix! thank you for your help. Hopefully tomorrow I can reread these and start cutting. Right now my dog isn't doing too well and I am terrified I am going to loose him. I think DH is taking him to the vet tomorrow.
Hey everyone. We are back from our vacation to Traverse City Michigan. We had a fun time, and the girls enjoyed themselves. Tuesday morning was prettty dreary and wet ... the kid cruise we were goign to go on was cancled. But it was the cherry festival and we found other things to do around town. Here are some photos of the trip. I missed you all.

Here is Chianna and Sierra on a water roller coaster
It looks like you had so much fun! Your little girls have the greatest smiles!!!!!
Yeah, I made that same mistake with Lily's minnie top.

Jessica!!! That is GREAT!!! It looks absolutely perfect! I never would have noticed it didn't have the extra circles, so that was a good call! Wow, you have some applique skillz!!

Ok. Let their be Lily's!!! and coordinating outfits:yay: :yay: :yay:
:rotfl: Yes, we'll have to try and make all the girls something out of the same fabric. How cool would that be!?!

OK- so let's talk Dismeets shall we?? So much to do! Should we try to get an Illuminations cruise? Maybe reserve a meal somewhere together? If kids are gonna be there- how about a wishes cruise with the pirates??

I haven't done a 6 tier skirt myself but have thought about it. I won't be doing one any time soon because I can't use my ruffler for now. My newer sewing machine won't work with it and my old machine needs servicing - the needle plate is messed up which causes the thread to break often. :(

BTW - There is one "shortcut" for patchwork that I've used when quilt making that would work for patchwork skirts. Basically you cut strips of fabric with the grain of the fabric the width you want for the patchwork and as long as the total number of patches you'd need of each print. For example if you are doing 6.5" squares and need 7 patches of each print, the width of the strip is 6.5" and length is 45.5" (6.5" x 7). These strips are sewn together along the length until all are stitched together to make one large flat piece. Once those seams are done and pressed flat, the fabric is cut again across the grain into 6.5" strips and those strips of joined patches are sewn together to get the total length needed for each tier. It's still a lot of sewing and cutting but sewing strips really does makes it quicker. Using a rotary cutter also works well with this method.

Reading the directions for the 6 tiered skirt in the book marks made my head hurt so I gave up and looked for different instructions. By then I was so confused I needed you guys!:rotfl:

I love your Cindy big give outfit!

Hey guys!!
I got the eyes done on my cindy applique:

I am not completely happy with them, but i think i am just going to leave it. I tried a black outline on them, but it just loke weird to me. I think mabye it highlighted the imperfections in them. What do you guys think? Is it passable? This is the first face I have done and I am insecure about it. Is it too beginner looking to put on a garmet?

You did a GREAT job!

Tnkrbelle565 (Kristine). DH gave the :thumbsup2 so now I just need to work out a budget!!! I would plan on coming sans family. DH and I tried to go to Vegas this February and our trip was cancelled that day due to an blizzard...so I wouldn't plan to take DD "just in case"

We took a mental health day today...and headed to the mall. Someone, who shall remain nameless, told us about the sale at the Disney store, so I just had to go..:rolleyes1 I wound up with 4 pair of sunglasses, 2 pair of pajamas, 4 tee shirts, 1 pair of sneakers, and something else..can't think right now...:confused3
Then I hit up Yankee Candle for some seriously overpriced Starfruit and Orange sented candles...yummy
Then up to the food court for a huge oversided piece of pizza, and then off to the nail salon. Ireland and I both got ours done.
It was fun!!
I have been sewing my fingers off making those crayon roll up thing-ies..I only have 4 left to make. I am making one for each child in Alexis' preschool class.
I also found a great deal on flower leis...7 cents each...yup 7 cents...they were on clearance at CVS. I bought all that they had!:lmao:
Here are some photos of the previous events ...

How fun! looks like you got some great stuff!

LisaZoe - Do you machine applique all the stitching on the eye, or is some by hand? Also, what pattern do you use... I just love all the space you have on the front for applique.

I know I haven't posted much here, but I am slowly getting into your group. I have sewn my whole life and every year say I am going to make customs for my kids... none get done. This year is different. I have all the fabric purchased and I have already started. My oldest (almost 8) asked if I will post of pic of her in an outfit like all the other moms did (she reads the pages with me sometimes to see all the great designs. I hear... I want that... all the time!!!
Welcome I can't wait to see what you made.

Here is the shirt for Clay. I skipped the sponge like circles on him because I really like the way it looks now. Do you guys think that is okay? I was just going to do circles outlined in the gold but afraid it will take away from sponge himself (and that they won't be too circle-y when I am done).

It is raining out right now so no modeled pictures!

It looks perfect! He is going to love it!

Read the direction Cindee.. Heather said Copy and paste and add yourself the bottom of the list!!!! JEEZ, do I have to do every thing around here??

Maybe going in February:

I am so sad! I want to come but can:worship: Are there any Dis in IL? Maybe a mini meet?

I would love to but I am not sure that my DH would roll with that very well. I may just have to work on him a bit.

My DH is busy planning a guys-only trip to see football/baseball games in Texas. He also went away twice last year....and where have I gone by myself you ask????....NO WHERE!....so I figure if I can keep the cost under $600, it is doable cause he can't really tell me "No" after going on his own three trips right??? :rotfl: So long story short....GO GO GO!!!!!

Has anyone noticed the conspicuous absence of Teresa and Heather lately??? Where the heck are those girls?? There's only one reason that could excuse their absence and that's if they are working on their trip reports. W

Well............ I guess if they were out making me a custom for my trip in September then that could be excusable as well!

I believe they are busy with family (of all things! ) and probably sewing....my guess! Plus their trip reports...do you know how long they take to write and upload pics etc??? :cheer2: But I am sure they are closeby and will be back soonerish! :flower3:

OK so back to the Dis Meet in Feb. Since Disney hasnt posted 2009, I did type in early Dec dates to see what the price would be around. Is anyone interested in sharing a POP room with me? That is if I can get my DH to agree? A room from Thur Feb 5 to Sun Feb 9th with regular dining and three-day tix (no hopper or wp) is ..... $940 divided by two adults, would only be $470 plus tax and travel costs/flight. Anyone,,,,anyone???:rotfl2: :confused3  :cheer2:

I would seriously love to go. Not sure I could work it out, but I would love to share a room IF I went.
Oh wow...three people (snubie, sohappy and twob4him) in a room and the price drops even more....rack rate right now it would be $1305 divided by three is $435 each!!! :woohoo: . This would be room, regular dining (1 counter service, 1 sit down and 1 snack), 3 days of tickets (no hopper or waterpark) and Magical Express. Plus you would have to add 13% tax and insurance if you wanted it. Plus the fact that Disney will raise rates for 2009 but AAA would be a discount probably...but that gives you both an estimate.   Oh please oh please work on those DH's while I work on mine :dance3: ...hahaha ...I am sure you ladies know what I mean  :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

That is perfect as it is! I can't imagine he'd even notice the lack of sponge holes. :) I think adding them would make it too "busy".

I'm sorry we were out all day: we missed all the fun!

Jessica: Jacob says he wants that spongebob!

Busy, that was the word I was looking for! That was kind of my thoughts! Since everyone agrees then I can't wait to ship it out tomorrow! I am usually the biggest procrastinator but know I have so much to do in the next few days.

Jessica: Jacob says he wants that spongebob!

Funny, Dallas said the same thing!

For the Feb Dis meet

How about if we all make the same color tye dye tees? (Since a lot of us moms don't sew customs for ourselves:lmao: ) Maybe we could iron on our screen name?

Whatever is fine with me as long as I can wear my hot pink feather boa! Why- you ladies wouldn't recognize me without it would you??? :thumbsup2

I have to ask did you used to watch Another World yrs ago? The whole boa thing reminds me so much of Linda Dano's character Felicia Gallant whom I LOVED!

I am so proud of my dd today! We were at a friends house for a play date and one of the girls there who was 5 said she didn't like princesses ad they were for babies. Well my dd turned around and said ' I LIKE PRINCESSES AND I AM NOT A BABY! then walked away and left it at that! I love my little princess: She told her!:lmao: Of course the little girl who said that to her is a very sweet kid but I just loved how my dd(8 ) told her!
