Lisa, Whats not to love. Im sure hannah and heather are going to love the dress.
Hey everyone. We are back from our vacation to Traverse City Michigan. We had a fun time, and the girls enjoyed themselves. Tuesday morning was prettty dreary and wet ... the kid cruise we were goign to go on was cancled. But it was the cherry festival and we found other things to do around town. Here are some photos of the trip. I missed you all.

Yeah, I made that same mistake with Lily's minnie top.

I will definitely give it a little bit of an a-line if I did that again

Woohoo! I finally got Hannah's dress finished last night and will ship it out today. I test fitted it on Zoe since the two girls seem to be about the same size. My photos with her "modeling" didn't come out so I just put it on my largest dress form so I could have photos for my portfolio. I sure hope Hannah and Heather (MAW Big Give #1) like it.

I've done some skirts with 1.5x measurements when I wanted a skirt that isn't a full on twirl. It gives a nice volume at the hemline without using as much fabric. It really depends on the look wanted, the amount of fabric available and how many tiers will be used. I've seen some gorgeous and very full skirts with 6 tiers and can't imagine making one like that even just doubling the length for each tier. Usually if I am doing 2 or 3 tiers, I'll at least do 2x for the tiers but that still leaves the bottom ruffle anywhere from 8-10 yards in length! If I did a 6 tier skirt with the first tier at 42" and doubled the length for each tier, the bottom tier alone would be more than 37 yards long!!! Even with a ruffler foot, that's a lot of fabric to hem and gather. If I just did a 1.5x increase, that final tier would be just over 9 yards long.
WooHoo!Need to do that again:
Just booked AKL for 4 days the weekend after Labor Day! Got DH to agree that missing 1 day of first grade in the 3rd week of school was acceptable!!! And DH said to pick AKL or WL!
Our APs expire near the end of September so we're squeezing one last trip in and there are good FL resident and AP discounts. Off to plan looks! Last trip I only made two new outfits but she only wore one.

Gorgeous as usual Lisa! I'm sure they will be in love with it.
Good point. I didn't mean to suggest that you would NEVER use a 1.5x increase just that most twirls are at least 2x. I can't imagine making a 6 tiered twirlMaybe if it was not patchwork. I added ruffles between the layers of Littles halloween twirl and by the time I got to the bottom it was an enormous length of ruffle WITH NO RUFFLER
I'm so glad we figured out how to use that!!!

I am sure Hannah will love it!
Traverse City looks like alot fun! I didn't realize the kids could be so little to do bumper boats and cars like that.
Spongebob is almost done for MAW Big Give #2! I am so excited since my butt is aching! I have been sewing all morning long!
BTW, can we keep them #'d. It makes it easier for me to know what goes with what, not that it really matters too much though.

It didn't go on and off very well. I would just give it a little a-line next time for easier dressing and undressing. It wasnt' uncomfortable or tight once she got it on but it didn't go over her shoulders easily. What's wrong with that top????![]()
Hey guys!!

I am not completely happy with them, but i think i am just going to leave it. I tried a black outline on them, but it just loke weird to me. I think mabye it highlighted the imperfections in them. What do you guys think? Is it passable? This is the first face I have done and I am insecure about it. Is it too beginner looking to put on a garmet?

BTW - There is one "shortcut" for patchwork that I've used when quilt making that would work for patchwork skirts. Basically you cut strips of fabric with the grain of the fabric the width you want for the patchwork and as long as the total number of patches you'd need of each print. For example if you are doing 6.5" squares and need 7 patches of each print, the width of the strip is 6.5" and length is 45.5" (6.5" x 7). These strips are sewn together along the length until all are stitched together to make one large flat piece. Once those seams are done and pressed flat, the fabric is cut again across the grain into 6.5" strips and those strips of joined patches are sewn together to get the total length needed for each tier. It's still a lot of sewing and cutting but sewing strips really does makes it quicker. Using a rotary cutter also works well with this method.
Thanks! I know that most of the time she didn't even know I was there, but I didn't want her to wake up, and not know exactily where she was. The hospital is about 1 1/2 hours away, so between work, and the hospital, I feel like I have lived on the road.
Mom had congestive heart failure and some TIAs (mini strokes). She has lost her ability to swallow and speak clearly, but I can still understand her at times. She had a PEG tube put in today, so at least she can get some nourishment. Won't go into all the details, but we thought that we were going to lose her a few times. She is doing a little better, but she still has her moments.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate them all!
