We currently have a Disney World package book for Memorial Day week with 7day MYW hoppers and 6 nights at Riverside. The package was booked when they were offering the free plus upgrade to the hoppers in March. We want to upgrade to the Contemporary but there is no availability for this particular package even though checking online shows rooms available for NEW packages. We really want to upgrade to the Contemporary but cannot do so without canceling our current package with a $100 fee and then re-booking a totally new package. I think this is ridiculous! Any way around this??

When I called to switch my reservation from POFQ to AKL 35 days before the trip I was told that when you're switching to a more expensive resort they will not charge you for the change, and they did not charge me any cancellation fees to switch.

For each special that is run, each resort will give a certain number of rooms for that special. Once those rooms are sold out, that's it. The next batch of rooms goes to the next special being offered. They will only give a certain number of rooms on all specials and then the rest go for regular price. Sorry, but there is no way around this. The only thing you can do is keep checking and maybe you'll catch a cancellation at the Contempory by someone who is holding the same package as you are....it's always worth trying, you'll be upgrading so there will be no change fees...make sure if you get it they do not charge you any fees for changing...

Thank you Lindsy. I figured that would be the case. The last CM I spoke with stated that fact but did not encourage me to keep calling in case of a cancellation. Two CM's ago "Zelda" told me to keep checking the WDW website and when I found availability to call right away which I did. Unfortunately she didn't know about a certain amount rooms alloted for each package. Riverside will be fine for us but just in case I will call every other day to see if there has been a cancellation. Thanks for the advice!

I would not reccomend checking the web site. These cancellations fall into the system and are scooped up so fast, that by the time you see it on the web site and call in, it is more than likely gone. You just have to be the lucky one on the phone when that cancellation comes in. You have to remember there are thousands of people pulling rooms from the web site, guests, travel agents, etc. so the odds of it being there when you call in are nil to none...I would keep calling...

I figured out that the CM was wrong about checking the web site. What bothers me is that Riverside is COMPLETELY sold out for our dates so they immediately sell our room at a higher price than we are paying and then we could get a Contemporary package since it isn't sold out. But no, they want to charge us a penalty.

If the change results in a higher price, then there should be no penalty. The only time a penalty would be inforced was if your package price goes down. There are a lot of new people in DRC so if you think you are getting a wrong answer....call back...I know this because I just left DRC a week ago after 8 1/2 years....

The problem is that it is 2 different packages. The package code that I used expired on March 30th. It was a package that upgraded the MYW hopper passes to include the water parks, Disney Quest etc.. That package is no longer being offered. The packages available now just have the regular hoppers.

You already have the package, as long as you are just modifying the resort and staying within the travel dates that the orig. package was offered...they can switch you....if you go outside the dates the package was offered that's a different story....again to switch resorts it is still subject to availability...any questions you can always e-mail me at Lindsy1052@aol.com
