PA-Orlando

Thanks so much! I am starting to calm down a bit from initial shock of price increase and looked at a layover in DC which is better then twice our budget- we are closer to Harrisburg area actually, I'm learning a lot from these boards, thanks again for taking time to reply!

I would check Allentown ABE too. Harrisburg went too high for us in May for Sept, so booked ABE for half.
Also if you go to the airport have them make single flyer to see if lower rate shows for many of the seats. If you book four it won't give you the amount of cheap seats available, just full rate for four or five flyers. So if there are three seats for lowest fare and you book five all five will book higher rate, not three lower and then two higher.

I have done Allentown to Sanford, we did have to rent a car and you do have to leave earlier to arrive at the airport. Many flights are about 8:00AM returning too, but really low cost. Also, it w $40 each leg, for 1checked bag limit at 40lbs and fee for overhead bin.

Out of ABE for two of us it was $77one way each to MCO maybe on US Air was $25 more each leg to MCO with layover in Phila. Leaving 8:00am returning at 5:30pm through Charlotte. But it is a girl trip and I would rather ME then rent a car.

At Sanford, our rental two weeks before for a minivan at Enterprise Sanford was total $300. I watched daily as it went up and own.

I feel your pain with affordable air from PA . We are at least 1 hour to smaller airports (Harrisburg), and 3 hours to the big airports. We would love to fly out of Harrisburg, but can never find flights that work to Orlando on our schedule, and they are usually $$$. We have flown out of Philly to save some $$$, but really dont prefer to . Baltimore is usually where we fly out of, and Southwest has a LOT of flights out of BWI, and they are usually pretty reasonable. Plus, the ride for us to Baltimore, is way better than dealing with the Philly perpetual traffic jam :headache: .

Try BWI for flights........may work out.

If you are near enough for Wilkes Barre/Scranton, Avoca coming is rt I 80 to I 81 N, they have Allegiant charters Sunday and Thursday to Sanford, $77. Direct 2 hrs. The baggage is rediculous though. Still the least exp flight around....no flights in Sept for some reason.

Just be careful I've seen these flights get up close to 200 each way before all their crazy fees. Airlines out of Avoca get ridiculous at times.

Thanks, Avoca would be great............checked already. Allegiant schedule doesnt work for us. Price looks o.k., but then all the fees add up. We dont want to fly into Sanford either, not renting a car, so we will be using ME instead.

We always fly out of BWI because of the great schedule of flights to MCO, and usually Southwest prices cant be beat.

I remember the days of $59. flights, only a few years ago ! Now we are booked with Southwest for $135. and I feel like thats a bargain compared to everything else I have seen. I did see it go as low as $124. but didnt jump on it fast enough ..........got cold feet and jumped on $135. before it went up more.

The drive to BWI is 3 hours for us, but thats the only downside.

We are flying out of Latrobe on Spirit Airlines for $99/person each way. It is about a 3 hour drive from Harrisburg. We are going the weekend after Thanksgiving and all large airlines are triple the cost. It is an hour drive for us, but worth it. You don't pay for parking and it is a non-stop flight, which is key for us with a 3 and 5 year old. They do have crazy baggage fees, but join the $9 club and worth it. We are saving over $1,000 total on airfare. Flights are odd times, so in order to take advantage of the Magical express we are staying at a value resort the first night since we won't get in until 8pm and then moving to a Deluxe resort the rest of the week. Good luck.

I would love to hear about your experience after you fly with them. One of my co-workers had a really bad experience. The baggage fees, seat fees, carry-on fees and the odd weight limits really add up. Also, you cannot use Resort Airline Check in for your return flight as they are a non-participating airline. I have priced everything out and still have done better with Southwest out of Pittsburgh - but I will be anxious to hear how it works!
