Originally posted by mb168 I was wondering if DVC allowed a business/corporation to own points? Also, what are the maximum number of points allowed to be owned?
I would dig out my papers but we are packed ready to move and have no idea which box that stuff is in. Thanks
A business can own points but cannot operate out of the resorts. Max is 2000 points per person per resort with a Max of 5000 points total per person. That means a husband and wife could own double but I think they'd have to have them titled separately. I assume the same would hold for a trust or business entity. Of course multiple members of the business could own points independently as well.
I have awarded vacations to employees, simply pleasure trips. I have never opted for a "retreat" so to speak, but do not feel that would be an issue...
I interpret the business issue as utilizing a villa as an office and meeting clients etc.
I am not in a position to advise on the deductibility business wise for a purchase... My accountant has a system down that he uses when I use points for business and charitable situations. He uses a similar formula for other properties we own.
When we were at WDW in December, we took the tour and had left with our DVC bag full of information to look over. We were taking the boat from BWV back to Epcot.
A man and wife sitting behind us asked if we were considering buying into DVC. Turns out they have been owners for years. And they indicated that they own it through their business and they use it for employee incentives and trips with clients. They said it has worked out great for them and their employees love it as well.
