Thanks so much for the quick response. I'm probably going to bring plastic ware, plastic/styrofoam cups and paper plates.

What about napkins, papertowels???

I would bring the napkins but skip the plastic/paper cups, plates and utensils. Use the real stuff. That's what the dish washer is for.

There's also a fairly detailed listing in the new Member Guidebook that everyone should have (or will be) received.

See pgs 71 - 72

Why would you go to the expense and trouble to bring paper plates when you can have real utensils available and as much automatic dishwasher soap as you want? Puting dishes in the dishwasher is no more work than throwing away paper plates and certainly better for the environment.

dianeschlicht,
I totally agree with you!!!! Save the paper for picnics ( I don't even use them then), save a tree. ;)

Sorry, but we decided to bring all paper stuff. I don't want to be loading a dishwasher while I'm on vacation and neither does my mother, father or husband. We all decided against using the real stuff. Besides, it's no trouble for us to take them. We're driving down so we can put whatever we want in our car.

Figaro30,

JMO, but bringing all your own stuff kind of defeats the purpose of having a full kitchen. :)

Believe me, if you do use the kitchen at all, you'll wind up using the dishwasher. Pots & pans & cooking utensils aren't disposal and since you'll wind up washing those, what's a few more plates and cups! :p

But since you are driving, just throw them in the car. No harm, no big deal, it's there if you need it (paper cups are handy by the pool). Just be prepared to have to throw them back in the car on the way home. ;)

Have a great trip!

SleepyDVC...I hear what you're saying. But we didn't necessarily buy into DVC because of the kitchens. We bought into DVC because we would be able to bring people with us and have a really nice size room. While it's nice to have the option to cook, etc. to us it's only an option, not a definitive selling point.

Although this is my first trip "home" maybe I'll feel differently about it when we're there. But for now, I don't forsee us running the dishwasher not even 1x. And definitely not doing ANY cooking except for the english muffins and bagels in the morning. I'd rather eat out everday and pay. ;)

I guess I would look at packing disposables as more "work" than loading a dishwasher. No need to put the dishes away, just reuse them out of the dishwasher. Since the dishwasher is right next to the garbage bin, it would be the same action unless you plan on leaving the paper plates where they lay.

All I know is in my house, me and DH see the loading and unloading of the dishwashing as a pain in the tush. We'll each ignore it to see who can win out and which one loses to do the unloading/loading. LOL!! It's quite an adventure in my kitchen! Sometimes I just end up washing by hand to avoid loading. Call us weird I guess. :D

You're more than welcome to be our Acting Loader/Unloader while we're on vacation though. Just let me know!!

Better yet...you can stay on the couch in the livingroom. That way you'll be really close to the dishwasher!!!!

This has been a fun thread.....

I'm betting with Diane that once you're there, you'll want to eat off of regular plates.

When you get back Figaro, please post back as to how your trip went, and especially whether you used the dishwasher or not.

Have a great trip! :bounce:

Lol! I meant the couch in the living room! I take my job seriously you know.:D I figure it is a cheap price to pay for an extra Disney fix!:p

Have a great trip!

Thanks everybody for the well wishes!!! I'll be sure to have an update on the dishwasher saga when we arrive back home!! We'll see what happens! :D

Are you back yet, Figaro? Can't wait to hear if you DWed or not!
