Overwhelmed/Time to Plan

Ok, overwhelmed in two ways.
First, being overwhelmed in life by having elderly parents who are both ill.
So, needing a late night, sit at the computer distraction.
Luckily, after a v. v. brief, one day visit to Animal Kingdom last week, I realized I am going to be overwhelmed by planning a longer, two week trip in February. In addition, we will be doing a short visit Dec. 25-28 both this year and next year. We've never gone to the parks over the holidays (however, we typically stay at a DVC resort during this time while visiting my parents) but with the two week visit in February, we are planning on getting annual passes this year (probably first use them on either the 26th or 27th) so that we can also use them for a couple of the following year over the holidays.

I am so confused by the fast pass + system (do you really choose just one thing? and then they automatically give you a show and character greeting?). Where should we eat in the parks? What to see and do in December? Where to start?!?!

I know, I know, first things first. Begin to prioritize, make a list, set guidelines and peramaters.

We are DINKS from Seattle who have been to WDW and DL many times (though prefer DL for the size and feel), DLP once, DCL three times. We are DVC members. My parents live north of Orlando.

We will be staying at Saratoga Springs December 25-28, 2016; early February for two weeks, December 25-28, 2017.

Typically, we eat in the room for breakfast and lunch before going out. We like to have sit down dinners, and are fine with eating at the bar.

If we don't do rides in December, it's fine, but we would like to see decorations and things that are different during the holidays.

So.... where to begin?

1st step. Breathe. 2nd step- plan dining for your upcoming Xmas trip. It will be crowded, so pick the restaurants you really want. If you want to see decorations at different resorts, maybe look at dining at some of those restaurants. I have not visited post Xmas, but understand it is crazy crowded, but you will be able to see decorations, shop and even ride a thing or two. Things that are different at Xmas, in MK, decorations and Xmas parade, normally only done hard ticket party, but I think I read they do it after Xmas for everyone. I am sure someone will tell me if I am wrong. AK- they used to have a parade but for some reason, I think it is gone. There are decorations though. DHS, no more Osbourne lights, so not sure if they have anything to replace. Prob not until they get the new sections done. Last, Epcot, my fave at the holidays. Candlelight Processional- get a dining package. The days of walking up and watching without waiting forever are gone. Xmas Storytellers- in every country, I try to catch each one, they are all different and fun. Germany is my favorite!

Fast pass plus is not that hard, but it is not what you described. Here is a link to the thread that explains it. Read through and you will get it. http://www.disboards.com/threads/fa...list-and-suggested-priorities-part-i.3143281/
2 weeks in February will be great, you will get to do anything you missed and be able to take a relaxed pace.

Best of luck and remember to breathe!

Lol, yes, breathe. Luckily, I do have a twice daily meditation practice already in place.

Good thought on planning the dining first. Every year we usually go to the monorail resorts to see the decorations, and combine it with a pub crawl. I'm thinking of choosing two parks to go to this year to see decorations, then maybe another two next year.

I don't think we would be interested in the Candlelight Processional, but am wondering if it is like a hard ticket party where we would have to leave EPCOT if we are not going to the Processional.

I AM excited to hear about the storytellers, that sounds great. So maybe EPCOT would be one of our choices. Now to decide where to eat... so many choices.

I hear what you are saying about DHS, so I think we will skip it this year and hope for something new next year. I am also guessing the same would apply to AK.

So then, Magic Kingdom would be the second choice. I need to research where to eat!

Processional is in America Gardens Theater so no need to leave park if not attending. A monorail pub crawl is always a good idea!

Having gone every year since '93 the 2nd week of Dec for our holiday get away. I can tell you the sites outside the parks at the resorts are wonderful for decorations. Take a monorail tour of resorts (GF, Poly, CR) or a walking tour of the BWV area (BWV, BC, YC, Swan, Dolphin) and you will see more inside holiday decorations that you can imaging. Take a night sleigh ride around the FWC or a walking tour at night and see the holiday lights that the campers put out.

If you are only going to do two parks for the Christmas trip, I agree that MK and EP would be the best ones to do. We did some of the story tellers at EP last year. I wish we knew about them earlier so we could've seen more of them!! They really were very good.

Since you will be at SSR, don't forget to take in Disney Springs. Since there is so much new stuff there this year, hopefully they will have spectacular decorations!!

Made the dining reservations for December...
12/25 our tradition continues to year four of Christmas dinner at Raglan Road
12/26 Skippers Canteen
12/27 Spice Road at 9:30pm, which should work well for a 10:30pm show on the lake (is it still the same one during the holidays?)

It doesn't look like we will get the monorail pub crawl this time around, and I always love seeing the fireworks from the beach between Poly and GF. Oh well, we will more years in the future!

Next things to plan will be
1-fast passes for December (will need to purchase annual passes first)
2-dining for February, which will happen in another month or so. I went to the Nomad Lounge last week, and it was amazing, but we might do Tiffins this time around. Also want to do Be Our Guest. A few years ago, with the exception of a few of the hotel restaurants, DH and I had eaten at nearly every sit down place. Now I need to see what else is new!
