Overweight/oversize in Disneyland Spring 2014 edition

I've read that the trains on BTMR are exactly the same as before the refurb. I hope that helps! Have a fantastic trip :goodvibes

They are the same, the best that I can tell. Might even have a tad bit more leg room, for I usually, before the refurbishment, would get a slightly smacked up right knee, while sitting in the back car.

BTMR has some padding that I don't remember being there before, but I haven't had a problem with it making me too squished. It does make it so you don't slide back and forth as much and if you do slide into the side, it's padded there too.

Indy is fine for me, I usually have DH next to me so try to lean that way so I don't squish whoever is on the other side.

I'm short and curvy, all chest and booty, but there's only one ride I don't feel comfortable going on and that's Goofy's. I was pretty wedged in there, but I just felt like I was going to pop out every time we went around a corner. :)

I wish I would have taken a photo of the sign at Sky School so I could show you the wording. It was something very "PC" for sure, something along the lines of, "Guests above 250 pounds may have difficulty" or something to that effect. I shouldn't have termed it a weight LIMIT, per se. Just a suggestion.

That definitely makes more sense. And it's true; people of certain sizes will indeed have trouble with it.

I have definitely made use of the tip to pull the seatbelt out from under you before you sit down. That helps. But I sometimes still need a family member beside me to get it clamped in, especially if I have to work quickly. (Doesn't help that I always have stuff to store in the bags in front when no one else does so I am slow to start with!)

Maybe you can ask your traveling companions to help with the bags next time? Or perhaps rent a locker? If they are purchases and you are staying onsite, you can have them sent to the resort (to be picked up the following day at Bell Services), or if not, send them to the front of the park to be picked up that day on your way out.

No one else had trouble on RSR with the moulded seats? Hmm, maybe I'm wider than even I thought! Haha!....

I think DH has not been comfy, but there's nothing to be done about it. The seat in the middle might be wider, and it just has the lap belt, but we always ALWAYS ride "single rider" on RSR, and he has no choice about where he's sent.

(One case in point was that the TSM ride stopped at my own "personal" exit so that I could get out without going up and down the stairs . . . even though I specifically told them it wasn't necessary. I could do it, but I was going to be slow. Nope. They stopped anyway. Every single CM said, "It's our pleasure," or "It's not a problem ..." That was the attitude the whole way. I felt guilty for all the extra attention when it was just a little twisted knee and nothing life threatening, you know??)

If you have a twisted knee, it's good that they are sending you to that exit, though. Just because you could have done the stairs doesn't mean you should have. :)

FWIW even after my weight loss, when I went on that ride I felt like I was going to fall out. I cannot stand that ride! Went on a ride at a water/amusement park here in town that has a very similar ride and just as DS and I got into the ride vehicle we realized what we were in for. If you think a Disney ride like that is worrisome, a local small amusement park is scarier! (I've never heard of ANY accidents there, but still...)

Whereas Primeval Whirl, out at WDW, is a very similar ride, but the track and the vehicle are much bigger, and it feels, to me, a whole lot safer. (and the ride vehicle allows DH to ride it, so it automatically gets our vote).

Question to anyone who's ridden BTMR since the refurb (since this issue might affect a Pooh sized guest riding with a smaller guest): do CMs still use the foam bar padding to adjust for differences in size between riders (does that make sense?)? DH and I have a noticeable size difference (he's a healthy, strapping dude and I am petite), but this has never caused any issue except on BTMR. Sometimes (not every time, and not in the last few months before the refurb started), CMs will push the lap bar down as far as it will go on DH (not very comfortable for him) and then put a foam padded cylinder over the bar on my side to make up the space difference. I'm sure it is a safety precaution for children riding with parents, but it does look a bit weird when it's used for a married couple. Has anyone else had this happen, especially recently??

I have not seen that sort of thing. I have seen three tiny, skinny little girls riding together on several occasions, and they were fine, in the one case they were in the car in front of me. No one went flying anywhere. So, I would say that you should be safe.

I don't worry so much about being safe (I actually like having more space between the lap bar and me -- not so claustrophobic), but more about DH being embarrassed. Since the foam bar padding doesn't happen every time we ride, it gets us a lot of stares. Having other guests stare as you pull away from the station can be embarrassing for him. And Pooh sized guests probably don't like the stares any more than DH. If CMs aren't using the foam pad anymore, that's great.

I was going to ask about this, so thanks! I am hoping to convince my parents and sister to come with us next year. MY sister is I am guessing 550? She will only be able to get around with a wheelchair. Are there any ride options for her? Getting out of the wheelchair to climb into a ride is a no go. I thought I saw people in wheelchairs strapped into smallworlld? She is happy to just be there and see some shows etc but would love to get her into. A ride or two.

You can go on ariels grotto with the wheelchair as well as I think monsters inc at CA if I remember right. They slow it to a stop and load the wheelchairs on.

My ride partner is my youngest son, who is (well, was) the smallest in our group. We thought it would be best to put the smallest person with the biggest person as that would give me a little more space. We have never encountered a CM padding him in that way on any ride.
