Overpopulation

On a side note..

In Britain, it is a worry that there aren't enough children being born now to support the generations above that are living for much longer than people ever have done before. Like, less people = less money = bad for the economy which means things in Britain like pensions, NHS and old peoples homes will suffer because theres more people who need the services than those who can pay for them.

However, that is in Britain. I don't know what the other natural increase rates are in other countries.

On topic with China, yes, I personally think the one child policy is wrong, however, the population is decreasing and its now been introduced that couples who are only children, can have two children.

Not this again...
I'm not saying anything more than...
If you want to go get hysterectomies and vasectomies because you think you're a menace to society if you have more than 2 kids, fine go do it.

But making it law is just WRONG, a WASTE of time (and probably money). Totally a waste of time because nobody could be bothered to make sure that every woman with more than two kids doesn't have a uterus.

This is just my opinion, but a child should not act as a parent to their younger siblings. Help out here and there, yes, look after, no. They are siblings after all.
Well not very long maybe 15 years tops I could be a parent and it really does help you out then...and I really like kids...but only to a certain extent.

So many women don't even have kids, so really it probably averages out to be like 2 children per married couple anyways.

America may not be overpopulated, but the world is. It kind of bothers me when people think it's just a certain country's problem when it's the entire world's problem. And sex does NOT equal babies. People can have as much sex as they want to without ever having to concieve. Have your parents ever told you about condoms?

Yes they have. Have your parents ever told you that sometimes condoms break?

Sex does equal babies. Sex doesn't always go as others want it. Condoms break, things happen. I agree with Brian, we have a ton of space not used up. Why don't we use it since we're having such a problem now?

I also agree with Emily. We we're born to fight to survive. We've been invading habitats ever since the beginning of time. It's not going to change.

Oh and just so you know, my country's population is aging. There are fewer births than deaths and there are priviliges given to people with 3 or more children.

That also happens to a neighbour country, where you get money for each child born, with the amount increasing for the next children born.

That's on our side of the world.

Where do you live :)

Is Germany the one giving money for the births I seem to remember a while back hearing about mothers trying to cross their legs till Jan 1st when the scheme kicked in

Like others and myself have mentioned Europe are having/predicting major problems due to a falling birth rate and *ahem* as an A Level Geographer I can speak with a bit of knowledge behind me we're not heading towards some major disaster because we're having too many kids
-Restricting number of kids allowed is unethical and almost impossible to control
-Causes many economic problems with not enough working people to support an elderly dependent population
-We are not overpopulated Earth isn't going to close it's gates to humans just yet ;)

Now lets all live in harmony guys :hippie:

Good grief! Yes, I am European too, not German though. :)

I couldn't have worded it better myself!:thumbsup2

I want four kids, at the moment anyway, i've always wished i had more than one sibling, for the rainy days haha!

and in Britain, we have the aformentioned ageing population, so we need more children to be born in order to support the eldery in terms of pensions, retirement homes, and adequate hospital care (NHS)

so im sorted:thumbsup2

im against restrictions on the amount of children each couple is allowed to have, is it not basically taking away a right?

and explain to me exactly how this would be enforced anyway?:)

Why don't we just let this thread die? :)

Everyone's got their own opinions, and that's fine; there's no need to get an attitude.

Im surprised no one has brought up my best friend Charles Darwin :woohoo:

Almost did...but I figured that would be taking this debate to another level of argument and so I resisted haha. I also almost brought up the other evolutionists and historical figures such as Nietzsche...but again...
