We leave for Disney November 14th, checking in on the 15th. I will be leaving when the boys get out of school and will be driving. DBF will fly down a couple of days later and we will drive back....the half way point from SC to Disney is around Savannah....any thoughts, suggestions on area/hotel, etc? :confused3

We go to Hilton Head a lot which is about 30 min from there. I believe there is a Holiday Inn Express in Bluffton that gets great reviews and isn't too far from the exit. It is the Hardeeville Exit off 95...right before Savannah exit.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much :thumbsup2...not sure what amenities, if any, I really need. The boys may like an indoor pool, so something to think about....but if we are late getting in, the pool wont really matter much.....

Just stayed at Holiday Inn Express Savannah Airport in July on the way to WDW. Was a great price and hotel.

Couple thoughts:

Note that Savannah is a good ways from the interstate. It isn't just a quick stop; that is, it'll add some rather significant time to your drive.

We always stay in the historic district, mainly because parking is so difficult. If you stay in that area, you can park and walk to dinner, to shops, to the river. Somewhere near City Walk is a good spot.

If your kids are brave, you might consider a ghost tour -- either walking or riding.

This is a good exit for an overnite as you pass by Savannah on the interstate. There are quite a few newer chain hotels here and a few food places.

It's right off I-95, quick and easy.

Bluffton near Hilton Head is easily a 30 minute drive from the interstate.

Going into Savannah is a great choice if you can get off the road really early in order to take advantage of some sightseeing or nice dining. But - if it's just a room and a pool you want, Savannah would take some time as would driving toward Hilton Head. I've done both many times and enjoy the areas, but only when I make time for 'side' trips.

I drove several times when I lived in VA. We found there were a lot of chain motels (such as Marriott's Fairfield Inn or equivalent) just East of Exit 94, which is South of Savannah.

Country Inn and Suites has a hotel right off 95 that has an indoor pool, easy access on and off interstate and hot breakfast included. If you google it, it will be the I95 North airport location. There are several CI&S in Sav. area.

Another place to stop is Jessup, GA. Puts you a little closer, less drive next day. There is a Jameson Inn (no indoor pool) right off 95, also a Days Inn and probably a couple more I can't remember. Also Jessup has a IHOP and a Cracker Barrel for breakfast.

If you are just looking for a place to sleep and let kids get a little exercise, these places have worked for us, clean and quiet. Haven't stayed in past 6 months so check tripadvisor for recent reviews.

That's half way for us too and only once have we stopped but when we did we found an Hampton Inn right off of 95 in Savannah. It was prefect. There was a Cracker Barrel right there where we ate a late dinner. We got a good nights sleep and were on the road by 7am the next day, and were at WDW early enough to enjoy much of the day! Did not use the pool but enjoy the free breakfast.

We've stayed 3 times at Days Inn right off I-95, Exit 109, Port Wentworth, GA and would highly recommend it. Great free breakfast, updated rooms with fridge, microwave and 2 queen beds, a cut above the typical Days Inn. They have a smallish but decent outdoor pool that's open til fairly late, maybe 10 pm? Downtown Savannah is 20 minutes away.

Just made the trip 2 weeks ago. We stopped at Richmond Hill, still Savannah area but on the south side. We stayed at a Comfort Suites that was being remodeled. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. Our rate with one of those coupon books you get at rest areas was $65/nt. There's an outdoor pool and lots of fast food places nearby. There are 4 or 5 other major mid level chain hotels in the area.

It's only 4-5 hours to DW from there.

I live in Bluffton and I wouldn't stop here on the way to Florida. We are 1/2 hour off the interestate and the road (278 East) is under construction for about 9 miles. Although there is a Holiday Inn Express right next to our exit #8. It is very close to the highway. I don't really like Hardeeville - Exit #5 either. The whole area seems run down.

Drive another 10 miles or so and stop in Georgia.

You can find a great assortment of hotels in Pooler at the airport Exit #102. There must be 10- 12 hotels there. There are several fast food restaurants there as well as a Ruby Tuesday's and a local place, Carey Hilliards and a Walmart if you need to run in a grab something quick.

Exit #104 has several hotels and a Cracker Barrel. There are tons of things at Exit #94 as well.

We always stay at I-95 Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Savannah. Right off the exit ramp. There is an indoor pool and free breakfast. Cracker Barrel is right next door.
