Hi All,

I'm very over weight and travelling to Disney / Universal early next year and I am so so scared about my trip and how my weight will impact on my ability to enjoy the attractions. I don't really enjoy roller coasters so not too worried but would like to enjoy the smaller rides but just don't know if I will fit.

I'm short 5"3 and about 18st. Just looking for some similar experiences.

I will obviously try to lose some so any ( just lose weight comments not required thanks )

Just a question, are you from UK / Europe or USA? The reason I ask this is that I am from Ireland and I have been travelling to USA and Disney for a few years now and in general I have noticed that everything is much bigger in USA compared to Europe. For example , this June I went on the LA Metro underground and the seats were alot wider and bigger than the seats on the London tube. Also one of my American friends is over 6 foot and a large lady. We have been to Disney a few times together and she has no problems fitting on the rides.

The rides at Universal that generally cause the trouble are:
Dragon Challenge, HRRR (Coasters)
Forbidden Journey
Dudley Do Right rip saw falls
In a second tier
Revenge of the Mummy, and Escape from Gringotts (Dark Ride/Coaster hybrids).

Most everything else you should have no trouble with. BTW, you can see my photo on the right, I could ride everything.

At 5'3" and 220 (so about 16 stone?) I could still ride everything, but it wasn't necessarily comfy. My weight wasn't centralized anywhere, it was pretty evening distributed; if you have thin legs but perhaps a bigger torso area than I did, you might have problems I didn't.

Wear soft clothing; don't try to squeeze yourself into tight clothes hoping that it will help you. You might squeeze yourself where it's not needed, then have no flexibility where it IS needed. Just wear comfy clothes that can move with the restraints.

Everyone can go into the lines, and people are too busy with their own lives to notice if you're trying the tester seats or if, by chance (and I doubt it will happen), you try to get on the ride and are unsuccessful. I know from DH's experience (high weight but under 6 feet, which makes it hard) that no one cares what's going on with other families. (and if they do care, they are horrible people and aren't worth your time to think about)

With Dudley Do-right, slide your legs down first and then sit. Getting out isn't going to be easy but it's a fun ride. Oh and you'll get SOAKED on the water rides. So bring an extra set of clothes and put them in plastic or in a locker!

We visited in January 2013 and I think I weighed about 260lbs at the time (I'm 5'6"). Some of the rides have test seats that you can try before even getting in line, and I made full use of that. The only ride I felt uncomfortable on was the Hulk - I really had to squeeze to fit (I carried my extra weight in my bum/hips/thighs). I think I skipped the log flume ride because I found it hard to get in/out of.

I thought I would be really embarrassed by having to use the test seats but I never once felt like people were looking at me. Lots of bigger folks in the park - it was a non-issue.

We are returning in January 2016 - I have lost 90lbs since our last visit and am looking forward to getting back on all of the rides :)

Have a great trip!

The only ride I think you MAY have trouble with is forbidden journey. The harness MUST click three times to ride. That can be tight. I'm 5'5 and 200 lbs and I was surprised at how tight the three clicks were. I NEVER have problems on any other rides, ever. You can always test out the seats for many rides before you board. They have display seats outside the rides.

The seats on the outside (so half of the seats) don't have to close that tight. That's a change from when the ride first opened. So sit on the outside; they might be assuming that you're fine for the two middle seats on the bench, but ask for the edge seats.
