Over the river and through the FUN!

Happy New Year Everyone (so it is a few days late... :rotfl2: )
MeMom -- Thanks so much for the beautiful 2009 montage... really sweet.
Brooklynns Mommy -- I cannot believe you only have 14 weeks left. Time sure does fly by.

I am so glad I got to Ride IASW with you guys!! It was so cute to see Brooklynn's expressions...
Happy Monday!

I hear of all kind of crazy things people eat in the south, too, and I can get just as grossed out. I do not ever care to eat pigs' feet, for example, or chittlins. Some of my students are grossed out by the fact that I have broccoli on my menus weekly, and that I sometimes put cheese on it!
I'm from the south and i dont even like chittlins (they smell so horrible when you cook them. And i cant say im a big fan of pig feet but i have tried it before bcuz my mother made me. :headache:

I've seen a show advertised on Travel Channel where some guy goes all over the world eating all sort of slimy, nasty, abnormal things that people consider delicacies. I have only seen it advertised, but you will not catch me watching it - ever!
I caught one of those espisodes, and changed the channel very very very quickly.

I teach the song to my school kids, because we use music and poetry to teach reading fluency. They love it, and I love getting to hear it!

Nice present from the boyfriend. Now that you've got him thinking Disney, start throwing in trip hints. ;)

So sorry about your heater. Mine is old, and for the last three winters I have wondered if it would make it. I won't be surprised when mine plays out, but I'm grateful that it has lasted as long as it has. It's not nearly as cold here as where you are, though.
thats so cool that ur school kids love the song. Do they sing it loud and proud? I remember watching my siblings school performances all the kids like to try to sing louder than the others. :rotfl:

I always throw out trip hints. A few weeks ago i thought i lost some disney pics from right before we moved up here and i said "baby i lost my disney pics we gotta go back to florida just so i can take some" HE said "nice try" :rotfl2:

His uncle came over this morning and did something to make it come on. Hopefully it lasts. We also went to Wally World and bought a small table top heater.

cottage cheese?! No no, cheese curds! Little chunks of cheese! No cottage cheese! Blech! And to be honest I am a Canadian who isn't a huge fan of poutine. I like fries with gravy, or fries with cheese, but not all together! I also don't like smarties or ketchup chips! I'll just stick with my maple syrup, Timmies, and some Cadbury chocolate! No no no cottage cheese! :scared:

My family vacations in Canada every year and I always thought Ketchup chips and pickle chips looked absolutely disgusting ( I would never try them):scared1:

DH and I love the Aero bars...we look for them everytime we go to Canada.

Hi Memom! Guess what...tomorrow is my Brooklyn's 4th birthday! I can't believe it! Here she is:

Garsh...too bad we can't drive over to disney world and get in free ;)

It' so funny how we can go on and on about food.

I watched a marathon this past weekend of a show called 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" about a guy that goes around the US visiting the best places to eat. The show is funny and showed was all kinds of different foods that looked so good. I didn't see pigs feet but there was something that was fried calf underlings ??? Still not sure what that could be ??? I think he called them prarrie oysters??? The food isn't gross stuff on the show, check it out if you can. Alot of burgers, breakfasts and BBQ. :thumbsup2

Rest up MeMom the kids will be coming down the halls tomorrow! :rotfl:

I believe Prairie oysters would be the body part that only the male could have. There would be two of them. :rotfl2:

I love your 2009 wishes for us all - the old pictures of wee little Brooklyn were adorable!

Happy New Year Everyone! Hopefully this year will bring me the internet soon so I can post regularly. We have had a very busy holiday season and have switched from stuffing our faces and watching tv to preparing our house for the new arrival. We only have 14 weeks to go until our new arrival and so much to accomplish between now and then. Brooklynn is already being a great help moving books into Isabella's room and helping John put the crib together last night. Have a great day everyone!

Just 14 weeks! Wow! I hope they go very smoothly for you! :goodvibes

megablocks I'll trade you a case of Aero for just one of those plates...:rotfl2:
That's the chocolate bar with Bubbles, oh so good.

Ooooh, I LOVE Aero bars!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMMMM!

And this Minnesotan knows VERY WELL what Cheese Curds are. Our local Culvers sells them on their regular menu, but the State Fair has the best ones. I'm not a big fan of cheese, but I LOVE cheese curds!

The guy who has the show on the Travel Channel who eats all the icky stuff is actually from Minnesota too.

I didn't see pigs feet but there was something that was fried calf underlings ??? Still not sure what that could be ??? I think he called them prarrie oysters???

Rocky Mountain Oysters.

Ew.
Ew.
Ew!

And yep, they are a part that only males have....

I do like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives though!

Esentially it is edible seaweed. Aound here it comes from Grand Manan Island.

I noticed that you and pooksma are from New Brunswick--my dad's side of the family is from there. Well, my grandfather was born on Prince Edward Island. My grandmother was born in Moncton, I believe, and that's where my dad and my aunts and uncles were born. They moved to the States years ago, when my dad was only five, I think.

I think I've seen dulse sold somewhere there--I want to say that I saw it at a gift shop at the Hopewell Rocks. I kinda wish that I had tried it but I guess I wasn't feeling adventurous that day. :rotfl:

Just wanted to say hi  because I only just realized today that you guys were from NB and I thought that was cool. :teeth:

Hi,
Nice update and pics.

I love IASW. So does Biff, he actaully requested to go on the ride.

My pics never come out in there.

Mine don't either. I just keep shooting and come out with dozens. Five may turn out good.

I used to think that way until I actually tried it. YOu don't know what you are missing.

I'll get Pooksma to send you some dulse with your fiddleheads (just steam them and season with some butter and/or vinegar). The dulse you can eat right out of the bag.

Down here in Tennessee a fiddle is something you play on the Grand Old Opry!

Ewww, me no like vinegar!

You ladies are so kind. ;) It's weird, because I'm not a huuuuge chocolate person, but I definitely made an exception for those.

MeMom, I am with you, I'm not sure that they'll be there when I am there, either, but I'll still check.

I hope that today went okay for you--my mom and Kailyn are also back to work and school after being off for almost two weeks.

Yes, it is a rude awakening to be sitting back at this desk with no HGTV in store for me and very little Dis time.

I am hearing only good things about the Aeros, so those I will try.

i hope your first day back to school is a good one, memom!!!! :goodvibes

you may have already told me this but when are you guys planning on going back?

It was busy. The kids come today.

My friend and I are scheduled to go March 18th. The room at Pop is booked and the plane tickets are paid for. I know I'll be ready for it when it gets here, but right now it still just doesn't feel all that good. I'll miss having the girls with me, and financially I know I don't need to do it. I did get a code, though, which helped some. I know I'll need it for the mental health break, though, and when it gets here, I know I will be thrilled and we'll have a great time.

Oh no cottage cheese in lasagna! You gotta go with ricotta! I just can't do the cottage cheese...makes me gag!

Oh Aeros....have you felt the bubbles melt? ;) I have and they're delicious!

I honestly have no idea what dulse is! What am I missing?

I do put cottage cheese in lasagna. Cottage, mozzarella, and parmesan. I know a lot of people use ricotta though. I may try it next time and see what the difference is. I don't make lasagna too often, but when I do, it's a hit!

I need to look up Aeros on a website and see what they're all about.

Happy New Year Everyone (so it is a few days late... :rotfl2: )

Happy Monday!

They put the crib up last weekend, so that does make it seem closer.

I'm glad we met you, too, and got to ride some things together. Your smiling face will be in my pictures when we get to the last day!

I'm from the south and i dont even like chittlins (they smell so horrible when you cook them. And i cant say im a big fan of pig feet but i have tried it before bcuz my mother made me. :headache:

Several of my students have told me that their 'grannies' fix pigs feet all the time!

Yep, they love singing Small World. They love all my Disney music. They just become accustomed to it, since I play it often. Sometimes, when they're just doing independent work or centers, I'll have it playing in the background.

I hope your heating holds out. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it does, because that'll be expensive to replace.

Esentially it is edible seaweed. Aound here it comes from Grand Manan Island.

I might eat a bite of seaweed sometime. I'd come closer to that than I would pig feet.

My family vacations in Canada every year and I always thought Ketchup chips and pickle chips looked absolutely disgusting ( I would never try them):scared1:

DH and I love the Aero bars...we look for them everytime we go to Canada.

Now we have a whole new topic - ketchup chips.

I'm going to stick with searching out an Aero bar.:thumbsup2

Happy Birthday, little cutie! pixiedust: party: :bday:
Seeing that sweet little face is a day brightener!

I hope you have a great day, Brooklyn!
(Out of habit, I put two n's and had to erase one!)

It's too early for me to talk about gross food, so I'll talk about the next worse thing - the kids coming back!

Naah, just kidding. The kids are sweet, and they'll be so excited to tell all about their toys. It's just the paperwork, ad it's already begun!

I believe Prairie oysters would be the body part that only the male could have. There would be two of them. :rotfl2:

Thinking, thinking.... :scared1:

Yes, do keep us in your prayers for smooth sailing and a healthy delivery for Jill. You're always a little nervous right up until the time you actually see the baby and know that mother and baby have made it through safely. I have two babies involved here - my baby and her baby! Even when they're grown, they are still your babies.

I noticed that you and pooksma are from New Brunswick--my dad's side of the family is from there. Well, my grandfather was born on Prince Edward Island. I'm going to get my Canada Goofy with the plaid shirt to come and sit with me while you guys talk.
Carry on.

I hope everyone has a Terrific Tuesday!
Enjoy all of your trip planning and countdowns mixed in with all of your real life adventures and unadventures.
Keep your New Year's resolutions, if you made any.
Hug the ones you love.
Appreciate the peaceful moments.
Be glad when you have enough money to pay the bills.
We are all very blessed, even in our tough times.

Thanks for growing and continuing friendships. We look forward to sharing 2009 with all of you, and we hope you will feel free to share with us, as well!

Cool! My family is from Moncton; that is where I was brought up. Pooksma and I live in the Fredericton area.

Dulse is very salty and is better whan you get it fresh.

Thanks for allowing the side conversation MeMom. Hope the new school year has started off well.

Happy Tuesday, MeMom! I hope your children are well-behaved today and ready to learn. ;)

I have one more day without students -- they return tomorrow -- it's raining here -- just buckets of it, and we are under a flood warning. I am wondering how I will get home to all my babies this afternoon.

My 'problem' student was the first one to enter my classroom this morning. Happy New Year to me!

Happy Tuesday to you too MeMom!!

Well, I lived through it, so I guess that's pretty good. It's raining here, and traffic was bad on the way home. I saw a three car crash, so I feel grateful that I made it home safely.

They were pretty good overall. They were very excited to tell me about their goodies. One little girl brought one of the coloring books she got to show me, because it was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

We have much rain here, also. I hope you found your way home safely.

Next, we went to Haunted Mansion. There was very little wait, and the line moved constantly.

I kind of liked the shadows on the tombstones.

More window shopping, this time at the Christmas store.

I have another friend that you may all know who loves the castle stuff, so I took a couple of pictures for her.

this is my favorite tombstone! i just love good ole fred.

awesome picture!

hmmmm.....i wonder who that could be???

Shopping was over, and it was time to eat, so we set out for lunch.
Where should we eat?

i say columbia harbor house! i've never been there but you guys are in the area, so that's my guess.

Awesome shadows on the tombstones!!!

All of the castle ornaments and decorations are great!

You'll appreciate this story, MeMom. I had test administration training this morning (on tests I have given for ten years) at the Central Office. Well, our test administrator had the castle with the Christmas lights as his desktop background. He then spent the first ten minutes of the training going on and on about visiting Disney World at Christmastime and all the things people can do there. I just sat there smiling to myself as I sipped my morning coffee out of my refillable mug.

Unfortunately the rest of the training was not nearly as enthralling. :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I love your Haunted Mansion pictures! The dining room one came out awesome. That's one of my all-time favorite rides. I love riding it with my parents in one car, b/c my mom found out exactly how to scare my dad on it--she eyes the guys that pop up from behind the gravestones and grabs my dad's arm just when they pop up, and my dad flips out. It even works ten seconds later! I wish I knew how to get that one part on to YouTube, but my dad might kill me. Thank goodness he doesn't read these boards! :rotfl:

I adore that cart outside of HM because I love the Nightmare Before Christmas. That black shirt in the picture might be the one that I really wanted to buy last year, but I couldn't find my size. My boyfriend's little sister gave me an awesome NBC shirt for Christmas, but I will have to keep an eye out for that one.

Hi MeMom

I've been AWOL again... we had problems with our internet access over Christmas etc. so I didn't come online too much.

Hope you all had a great time!

Back to work now, and back to my regular early morning reads!

Julie xxx

Checking in quickly to say that Jill has to be at the doctor's office for four hours today for blood sugar tests. She gets no food from last night through all this morning, so I'm on a sympathy fast with her up here. She is already thinking of what she's going to eat when she leaves the doctor's office!

Keep your fingers crossed that all is well with her health, which we're sure it is. They're just taking precautions for any diabetic tendencies. (She's also inherited anemia, bad eyes, and thin hair from her mother. She thanks me often.) Also keep your fingers crossed that there is not a big line at whatever drive-thru she decides to drive through :drive: when she gets there. That could be disastrous! ;)

Thanks for the update! :goodvibes Loved the pictures, can't wait to see where you had lunch:)

I hope Jill's test goes good for her. Let us know how it goes.
