PER PERSON FOR ECONOMY :( FOR JULY 2007 WITH MY TRAVEL, FLIGHT ONLY. ADD ACCOMMODATION AND IT WAS ABOVE THAT. HOW CAN THEY JUSTIFY THAT. :confused3 I THOUGHT THEY GAVE INCENTIVES FOR BOOKING EARLY :confused3

wow! its only costing us £1200 each with travel city direct and thats with sunshine first seats, pop century reosrt for two weeks, full size car and platinum insurance for two weeks and sanford guest lounge!

Glad I have booked with them for next year already prices seem to be going crazy

Prices are most affected by when you choose to travel so that is one of the reasons Anna's price is so much better than yours Ali :)

Having said that, £1100 seems really high to me! Flight prices have really gone up over the last few years (comparing prices I paid at the same time of year):

Aug 2002 - £450
Aug 2005 - £600
Aug 2006 - £750

I was reading in one of the tabloids the other day that Orlando has the highest 'mark up' for school holidays - it suggested 70%!! :sad2:

Alot of it is to do with economics ie supply and demand, if people are wanting to go the price goes up same for times like Christmas. I looked on the MY Travel website and some late July prices did go down to about £750 per person.

Claire ;)

Just checked VH and the highest their fly drive goes to is £859 per person!!

we are paying £888 for going at the same time this year and that INCLUDES upgrade to Premair . Unfortunately we have to go direct from Glasgow due out sons disability but I am going to hold off for a bit as if we added Premair it would rise up to nearly £1300 for each of us. can't quite believe how much it has increased. Unsure how Globespan are for high level disabilities

Supply and demand? Pah.

People buy millions of tins of baked beans every week. Imagine the out-cry if they decided to put the price up during the holiday season? You shouldn't pay more for a tin of beans in August then you have to in February.

Orlando has an ever increasing number of accomodation. Hotels have sprung up all over, Disney and Universal have been building themselves and the amount of private villas for rent is astounding. Flights? There have never been more across the Atlantic.

So, we have lots of space, plentiful accomodation and numerous flights so the "supply" side is well stocked. They know that a high percentage of people travelling will have children and, due to school restrictions, will be travelling during holiday periods so the "demand" will be high.

The "supply" is there to not just match the "demand" but to exceed it. I can understand lowering prices while kids are at school to try and get people onto half empty planes and into empty hotels but to ramp the prices up by huge margins when they know they will be welll used is a con. What there ought to be is a set price across the year with discounts for the quiet periods - the massive fluctuations between January/February and July/August are disgusting.

But this will never happen. The holiday companies, airlines, hotels and villa owners know that if you have kids they can charge you what ever they want. This governments threat of legal action if parents decide to take their children on holiday during term time has given tour operators a license to print money. They're lapping it up. They can block book accomodation and get massive discounts from the hotels / villas. They know the flights will be full so their planes will be arranged at a discount. They also know that because it's a holiday period they can get away with ramming the prices up ... and we just accept it. So for a tour operator, his costs go down and his profits go up. Good in'it?

There is more than enough Orlando "supply" to meet the "demand" but while we all blindly accept holiday companies ripping us off, nothing will change.

i agree, but would add, dont forget its not just families with kids that are limited, lots of people who work in schools, or factories that close in august who dont have kids are also restricted, limits should be put on % increases. I would say also that this is not just in orlando, i worked in a hotel in france that had a layered pricing system, holidays and busy periods rooms were alot more expensive, particularly when they knew the brits would be travelling through on their way to the south...
some families with small kids who did not book, after a 14-15 driving day, still had to drive another 4-5 hours to find a hotel. always book please, even if you are only doing a short journey (you can always cancel it before 7 and there is no charge
tracy

I'd just like to add that although there is the question of supply and demand increasing prices during school holiday times there are also many other costs to take into account, all airports contract their staff on minimum hours, ( check in, baggage handlers, security and catering staff) these hours can double or treble during peak times, meaning more staff wages. take into account that the overseas airport has these increases too and you can see why airline landing fees etx go up enormously at this time

Our price for August 2006. Flying 19th August with My Travel premiar gold, All star Music for 2 adults 1 child 14 and 1 child 12. We are paying £3506.31, but booked this about 12 months ago. Very expensive, but I hope staying onsite will be worth the extra money spent. :yay: :Pinkbounc

Ali I don't know how you are set for traveling but consider flying from Manchester or better still out of London with connections from Glasgow, believe it or not we've found that a h**l of a lot cheaper than flying 20 miles from my own door step!! We are only paying £2600 out of Manchester (in Sept) for 3 weeks including accomodation,as a side issue we priced up G/span (after we had already booked as they hadn't started the flights at the time) & they were still quite a bit dearer than Jetsave.

Despite your rant, the only way that summer holiday prices will come down is if you, and everybody else, refuses to go to Florida during the summer holidays. Whilst there are more people wanting to go than there are seats, the price of flights will rise.

Simple economics states that as long as all the suppliers (including the airlines) can manage to sell all the seats that they have at these prices, there is no incentive to lower them.

One point, the supply of flights is limited. There are only so many take off/landing 'slots' available at either end.

Hi,
We were quoted about £400 each flying from Glasgow in June 2007 with American Specialists. Might be worth phoning them to see what there prices are like for July. I think this was through Thomas Cook and a Monarch Flight.

thanks Shooby doo, unfortunaley because of our DS we have got to choose the shortest route and because he needs specialist equipment (which we rent in Florida) we wouldn't be able to stay o/n in Manchester. I punched in Manchester to just our of curiosity and it wasn't much cheaper. think I wil leave it for now and see what happens

thanks Linda, I will try them to :thumbsup2

I agree with all of your comments about the prices in the school holidays.

I am going next easter and got a quote for 9 flights (5 adult and 4 kids) flying with virgin at £9000.00. WHAT!!

Airtours worked out the same as well.

After a lot of searching I found flights (non direct I have to say but just one stop) with Air Canada flying from Heathrow for £4006.00 for all of us.

I went with Virgin this year and found the service terrible - from checking in to arrival. I have to say the food was the best part about the whole trip. I have to say if I had to sit through a flight knowing I had paid the best part of £10k I wouldn't want to be looking at the miserable faces of the Virgin staff like I had to this year.

Happy hunting!!

another strange thing is that Premair Class doesn't show up when you go to the next level asking for a quote :confused3 will speak to TA when up re this years holiday and see what she says
