OUTLANDER Fans - Have you heard?

I think one of the things I really appreciated was the showing of the relationship between Claire and Frank...I still don't like him, and think she is much better off/happier with Jamie, but it does give us a glimpse into why she feels torn between them--he is much more personable in the show than he ever is in the books.

Just watched it and thought it was great. Claire and Jamie are well-cast, and the scenery was spectacular!

Just watched the first episode. Considering I just finished reading the books for the first time last week :), I thought it followed the plot line real well. I did miss seeing Roger in the chair as well, but figure they may have it as a memory later in the series.
Great show so far! :)

Gah!!! It doesn't start until Aug 24th here in Canada. Why????!!!!!!!

Watched it. Now I had not read the books or had ANY idea what the series was about so I came in cold.

Not my usual genre however I am going to stick with it for a bit. I am ready for something different.

I just watched the first episode on Starz online. Thanks for the heads up on that one. I thought I'd be waiting until it came to Netflix (if ever). Does anyone know where you can watch the remaining episodes as they come out if you don't have Starz?

On a side note, the village where Claire and Frank are staying, where Frank sees her in the window and where you see Claire walking near the shops, I've been there. It's the village of Falkland. We stayed in the white building right next to the castle. I was watching and it was bugging me, thinking it all looked so familiar. They said they were in Inverness, but....a quick google answered my question. We missed filming by a couple of weeks it seems.

Adapting any book, especially one as detailed as this, is an incredible challenge and I while I was excited for the show I didn't hold out terribly high hopes for it. I was incredibly impressed and can't wait for more episodes. Let's just hope it doesn't turn into a situation like Game of Thrones has where the show catches up to the books too fast and starts changing the story line to the point the story is unrecognizable.

With the length and number of the Outlander books, I think there is enough material for a loooooong time. :rotfl: They shouldn't need to stray too far from the source material to keep our interest. Diana Gabaldon has said she is happy with how faithful to the books the series is staying.

I was very, very happy with the majority of it. It really keeps to the "spirit" of the book IMHO.

I did have a few tiny quibbles, but I know they were done for cinematic reasons (Jamie riding a gorgeous Friesian horse, when it would have been a more plain highland "pony" most likely; Claire's dress she had on when she crossed over, it looked like a nightgown that she threw a shawl over; and, for some reason, that they have the same actor playing Frank and his ancestor...I know that the resemblence is suppsed to be "striking", but the same?!?; the music sounding vaguely Lord of the Rings-ish at times...)

My favorite scene? The one with the "ghost" of Jamie looking up at her in the window and Frank almost bumping into him, just like I pictured it!

Scotland should be THRILLED with the boost to tourism this series is going to give them, I would *love* to go for our 25th anniversary!

It been a long whole, since I've read the books. I'm excited about the new series, but goodness...took a long time to get to Jamie! :teeth:

Who's still watching?
I'm liking it more and more every episode. They really did a phenomenal job on the casting. I'm so glad season 2 got approved!

We've been watching since the first night and love it. I have never read the books, but am seriously thinking about it. DH and I look forward to watching each week.

I really, really wanted to like the televised version, but I just can't.

It sucks.

For all of you that have not read the books, please do! They are wonderful and engaging and this sad little TV farce is so disappointing. :sad2:

Of course, this is my personal opinion and I am glad others are enjoying it.

Sorry you don't like it.
I've read all the books and love the show so far.
I wonder how many other DISers have read the books....

I've read the books and am enjoying the show quite a bit. My friend, who has not read the books, asked if she should watch. I did tell her no because I think there is SO MUCH in the books that is not in the 1 hour episodes. There is just no way there could be.

I do really like, though, that Claire is narrating her way through the episode. It gives the viewer the same slant that you get in the book. It was the one thing that I think the film "The Hunger Games" needed. There was so much going on in the book in Katniss' head that needed to be said in the film. I feel that way about Outlander and am glad they have chosen to do that.

Season 2 has been confirmed. :thumbsup2

I think, they are doing a great job with the series.
