Out of Galveston in 2017?

We've sailed out of Galveston 3 times and have never had rough seas. Maybe it depends on the time of year? We sailed in September, October & February.

Magic/Wonder are currently available through the end of April 2017 and Dream/Fantasy end of May 2017.
Galveston stopped in Feb at the same time as the last DCL cruise out of Galveston. Its not like DCL is showing more Gal cruises that the POG isnt

I hate that they are in Galveston because it doesn't work at all with our school schedule and it's awful having them this close and then can't take advantage much. We don't want to be gone on Christmas day and the other times we've looked even Thanksgiving and Christmas break cruises cut into our school calendar..... We also found last year it was cheaper to go to Miami (from Texas) and cruise on the Magic then drive the couple hours to Galveston.

I think this might be the year I take the plunge and cruise out of Galvetson (which is only 5 hours away for us). Here's hoping the Thanksgiving prices aren't outrageous, cause I can't take a week off from school.

Friday departures like last year. Saturday or Sunday would be more convenient.

In my experience, sailing out of Galveston was rough going south for Western Caribbean, but smooth going more easterly for Bahamian. Of course, it always depends on the current weather patterns. Maybe we just got lucky when we went Bahamian. :)

The Thursday departures may create a schedule issue for many folks.

This is my problem. If they would sail out Saturday to Saturday I'd take 2 a year - one over Thanksgiving and one over Christmas break. But that Thursday messes things up because I have to miss Thursday and Friday of work before a holiday which is really frowned upon.

Galveston has been rough seas for us period. On our last cruise our server told us galveston sailings are known for rough seas.

We have sailed several out of Galveston on DCL (8) and have had both good and bad weather, it depends on the storm systems coming down through the US at the time and how far south they push. Our experience has been that even in not-so-great weather, going south (Western Caribbean) has been better overall than going to the Bahamas. It takes 1 day to get to Cozumel and by the time you get there typically the weather is beautiful. Going directly across the gulf over to the Bahamas has had the tendency to have the no-so-great weather stick with you for longer until you pass south of Miami. The same is true coming back.

Galveston is not a huge cruise port, and I guess that the lines that are there year round get the preferred sailing dates.

Where are you seeing the dates? I am seeing friday to friday again after doing a google
search

We did the Dec 24 Galveston cruise this past Christmas. The seas were not bad, we were delayed a bit returning due to fog. What was horrible was the price. Due to school schedules, prime dates were almost twice what early December would have cost us. We paid. We had a great time, and I loved having a break over the holiday. But I'm not sure I'd pay that much again for a 4 day cruise.

For those that have cruised DCL from Florida, be prepared for Galveston's port. It's not pretty. There are no bells and whistles in the port building. It's a warehouse type place, next to some grain elevators, with a nice gangway to the ship. Not complaining so much as making sure you don't set your DCL expectations until you get onto the ship. ;)

I am not able to see prices until tomorrow. We are booked for Dec 2016 right now, are they a lot higher than 2016? If so we might just stay with 2016 rather than change to 2017.
