Well, I should have known by our honeymoon that any trip we take will undoubtedly be a disaster... Three months of meticulous planning right down to a trip itinerary and backups of everything we could possibly need all went down the toilet the first night we were there! That said, it was still a great trip (as was our honeymoon, despite everything going wrong [and I stress EVERTYHING]), although WAAAYYYY too short. We got back Thursday and headed up north for a weekend of “vacation from our vacation” time! Yesterday I was still too tired to even think about a trip report, so here it is now just a little late, but you know what they say about that…

It started out with a worry free trip to the airport and an almost uneventful plane ride- in fact, the plane ride was great! We sat next to a couple who was around our age, engaged to be married sometime in 2006, and adored children! It seemed too good to be true- she played cards with the girl next to her and he kept our son happy the whole trip. The only problem we had on the flight was the brief (?) yet potent tantrum our son threw when we got up to walk him around and he didn't want to sit back down. Still, all was well- the people on the plane loved him regardless!

By the time we got to our room we were in awe!!! We had a studio at Old Key West and immediately began planning on buying into the DVC!!! (We don't even have a house yet, so it will still be a few years before we can) We had a view of the golf course from the second floor, and our son loved the balcony- it was nice that he could wander out there too, without us worrying too much since we could see him from the entire room. We were taking pictures left and right, the towels, the way the Kleenex and even the toilet paper were folded into cute little shells, everything was just so fun, and it really felt like we were welcome there- truly a home away from home! That said, I think of all the people we encountered there (staff not included, they were wonderful) ONE was actually smiling! They all looked miserable- did we miss something? In fact, this seemed true of much of the people we saw at Walt Disney World… I just didn’t get it (notice I said DIDN’T get it- I soon would).

Now, let’s get into the gory details! We started off by asking the ferry boat captain if we would have time to get to our 6:40 priority seating at Chef Mickey’s if we took the ferry downtown and caught a bus (this was at 5:30). He said we should, but he couldn’t guarantee it. We decided to risk it, figuring we had over an hour and everything I’ve read on the disboards seemed to say “plan on an hour to get anywhere using Disney transportation”… That didn’t turn out to be such a great idea, instead of the relaxing ferry ride and fun bus ride we were hoping for, we were sitting on the edge of our seats panicking about missing our seating, which we ended up being about a half an hour late for- but they forgave us, thankfully! The meal was fun and the food was good, we got some cute pics, but somehow, our son didn’t have as much fun as we thought he would, which also lowered our morale a bit… We would find out why on the bus ride home!

After dinner, we decided to head downtown to see the shops and briefly check out Disney Quest, since we did pay for it in the price of our tickets. We had no expectations of staying there for more than a half an hour or so unless our son was having a good time, but we never even made it! Just as the bus pulled to a stop, our son (who had not made a single complaint or whined one time that night) got sick all over himself and my husband! That is the first time he has ever actually thrown up (I don’t count spitting up as a baby) and we were just shocked- we had no warning whatsoever! We cleaned up the bus the best we could, and headed straight for the bathrooms, which were not exactly close… All we could do for him was strip him down to his diaper and take him straight home, my husband still wearing the remains of his meal… He got sick again on the ferry, but we were expecting it and had a towel for clean up… He did get sick a few more times that night, so our plans to go to Epcot at opening were out the window at that point! We felt so bad for him, but he was loving the attention he was getting from it, the little ham!

We all slept in until about 11:00 and since he woke up happy, we decided to chance Epcot (let me point out that we were not bringing a contagious child into the parks, my husband and I both shared meals and drinks with him the entire time and never got sick). Our original plans were to go to Epcot in the morning and have lunch at the San Angel Inn (which we had a priority seating for and of course missed), and then go to MGM after a nap/break and see playhouse Disney and a few other rides/attractions that we had picked out, but that went horribly awry… Eating in Mexico was pretty much our sole reason for going to Epcot- my husband was really really looking forward to it. We didn’t realize that they closed mid-day, so we took our time getting there since the park had very low crowds- we walked onto every ride with virtually no wait times! I did go on Soarin’(all by myself at that) and the sign said it would be a 25 minute wait so I told my husband to go give our son a snack and meet me back here. It was a grueling one hour wait in line all by myself, with nothing but blank walls to stare at (with the exception of three large changing screens somewhere in the middle of the queue line) but the ride itself was pretty cool! Back to San Angel Inn- we arrived around 3:00 and they informed us that they were closed until 4:30, and my poor husband was crushed! I felt like it was somehow my fault, although I know it wasn’t… We headed over to the Nine Dragons in China, which was excellent, and felt that things had been somewhat redeemed after I promised my husband two meals at San Angel Inn on our next trip. Our son wasn’t having the greatest time, but he was trying. He was tired and cranky when we got there, but an $8 baseball and the opportunity to throw about $3 in change into the fountain cheered him up quickly (he has expensive taste, but I’d have paid three times as much to see him smile)! He was still not fully himself, but we could see that he was having a good time so we kept going. He found the jumping fountains and had a blast! Aside from needing a little extra sleep and refusing to eat, he was fine now- not quite his usual giddy self, but almost. It was a little disappointing to us not to see him as happy as we had expected him to be (had he not been sick) but we were just happy that he was feeling better at all!

I don’t remember what time we finally arrived at MGM, but it was well after 5:00 because I remember missing the parade that I had wanted to see so badly. When we got there we headed straight for Playhouse Disney, only to have our hearts crushed when the sign stated that the last show of the Day was at 4:45! This was the most exciting part of the trip for us, since our son loves Bear in the Big Blue House… We were devastated at this point, since it was our first full day down there and everything that could possibly have gone wrong did, and we had each missed the most important thing to us for that trip. We only had two day park hoppers and the second one was dedicated to Magic Kingdom, since we were sure it would be so crowded that we wouldn’t get to see half of the things we wanted to. We were torn, but we decided that we would leave mid-day on Wednesday (our dedicated MK Day) to see the show. We sucked it up, and managed to make it on one ride before heading over to see Fantasmic, which was great! The day ended with no more “episodes” from our son, so we figured we were in the clear- he had even eaten a small yet decent meal during Fantasmic… I’ll end it here to keep it (somewhat) short and will post a continuing thread either later tonight or tomorrow (I’ll also post a link to it). Thanks for reading!!!

Guess I don't need to bother with the conclusion...

ETA- I was just informed that the view counter wasn't working, my apologies to everyone. I wasn't so concerned with not having any responses, but I thought that nobody even viewed it!

Awww, I'd love to hear how day 2 went! It had to get better right?!

Yes I want to hear about day 2 too! I'm hoping it was better too, that maybe you got to meet some more characters or somethin! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

What was the one ride you got to do at MGM?

I'm so sorry that your son was ill. I hope day 2 gets better?

Katholyn

Thanks for reading, I was beginning to think nobody loved me! :teeth: I will post the conclusion tomorrow (technically later today), and will have a link to it from here. Right now, I'm off to bed!

Wow, sorry to hear of your misfortune and bad timing. It just goes to show how much of a challenge bringing a child to WDW is. Everyone that pulls off bringing kids to WDW deserves a huge pat on the back. I know WDW wouldn't have such a special place in my heart if it weren't for my parents braving the heat and crowds during the Summers in Florida. I hope your MK day was better than the first.

Thanks everyone, I'm about to get to work on the second part, keep an eye out in the next hour or so (my son rarely gives me ten minutes uninterrupted so it will take a few attempts :P )

Thanks for the report. I am sooo bad about reading reports and not commenting until the last one has posted. Sorry

No problem, thanks for reading at all! I am trying to post part two but it doesn't seem to want to let me, keeps saying the boards are down blah blah blah... yet I can post this? Someone must not like my trip report ;)

What a bummer that your little boy got sick! Sounds like he bounced back fairly quickly, though.

I am interested to hear more about OKW...I've never been to that resort.

OKW is the best! I've never stayed anywhere else in WDW since this was virtually my first time (went once when I was 12 to MK for a day and stayed off-site) but this place was awesome! Very peaceful, we hardly saw anyone except at the hospitality house/pool area, our studio had a great view of the golf course, the staff was great, the decor was very nice, etc... We have no desire to stay anywhere else on our future trips, although I'm sure we will just to see what else is out there. The only thing that disappointed us as the fountain area at the main pool (the one with the dolphings and stuff)- it was all roped off and we were expecting it to be open for kids to play in. They had a little pool party for the kids the day we left which was cute, the kids looked like they were having a blast! We loved staying on-site, we will do it every time because of all the little extras- the room charges so we didn't have to carry a bunch of cash or our credit cards, the package delivery so we didn't have to lug it all around, the EMH which was heaven, all the little things added up to great fun. We really felt like we were experiencing the best of the best!

On a side note- I'm still trying to post part two- anyone have any idea why I can post here but not there?

Was that the 1st time your son had flown? One of my friends son get sick without warning a few hours after he flies.

Yes, that was the first time he had flown, but he stayed sick through the night, and was under the weather the whole trip, only to get sick again early Wednesday morning (and we hadn't done any rides at all on Tuesday) and he had no problems after the flight home. We initially thought that it might have been the plane ride as well, until he continued to get sick throughout the trip. It wasn't anything contagious, or we would have gotten it, and he didn't eat any new foods, so we have no idea what caused it... :confused3 After thinking it was the plane ride, we thought it might have been that his milk was too old (we were so rushed at the airport that we didn't think about how long it had been out before giving it to him) but even that wouldn't have caused him to get sick two again two days later... (we opted not to give him any milk for the rest of the trip, just to be safe).

You do know the "view" counter is no longer functioning dont you? Always keep in mind many of us can read, but dont have time to post!

Waiting patiently for next trip report...

(PS I did stop my trip report after Day 3 thinking no one was reading, so I understand, but I think its a great way to have the memories for yourself, wish I had finished mine...)

LOL, no, I didn't know it wasn't working, that explains it! I kept seeing no views and thinking, geez, what a waste of time! Now I feel better, especially since so many people have posted a response... It didn't bother me so much that there were no responses, but no views really hurt  Now I know why! :teeth:

KatelynnsAuntie- I'm sorry, I thought I answered your question. The ride we went on was The Great Movie Ride. It was fun- quite cheesy and loud, but still fun. We loved the Alien part, we'll do it every time we go just for that!

that stinks your son was sick the whole trip, yuo will have better luck next trip, by the way he is adorable.
