I got to visit the Fort Lewis, WA, area for a few days from Sat, 26 Jun to Wed 30 Jun. What a beautiful area! We rented a DVD player at Dallas Airport but had to do so at a different terminal which was a little bit of hassle but being able to watch a movie (Cheaper by the Dozen) during a 4- hour flight was a blessing! Thank goodness the movie was funny as it cost about $20 to rent it. We returned the DVD player and movie at the Seattle Airport. Unfortunately, we stopped in Chicago on the way back and In Motion, the rental place, has not yet opened there. I rented a car which was only the 2nd time I have ever done so (the first being for one day at WDW) but it turned out fine. My daughter had a airline voucher for $400 so her airfare was free. We stayed in Tacoma as it was close to Fort Lewis, but almost an hour to Seattle. We rode ‘The Ducks’ which took us on a tour of Seattle and right into the water for the second part of the tour. The best restaurant we visited was on Bainbridge Island where we took the ferry over with the car. We ate at Doc’s Grill, right on the water. What a beautiful town! We never went up the Space Needle as I was spending more money than I had planned. We did visit the Seattle Waterfront where Macy Gray was having a concert and the Tacoma Waterfront. Pike Market was great! The fruit and vegetables looked so perfect, they could have been fake for all I know! Fort Lewis was also beautiful. We live next to Fort Riley, Kansas, and there is a world of difference. We stopped by the University of Washington which was again, beautiful. If we had more time, we would have traveled to Mt. Rainier but we, instead, visited Seattle for a second time. I loved the weather, the scenery and being right on the water!

Well thanks, Jodi, for the recap. Sounds like you and your daughter had a nice time together, doing some nice things, fun places, good food. And looks like all went well, good planning. Always nice to hear from you.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to my town. :) Its raining today so you got out just in time!

Kat

P.S. I will vouch for the fruits and veggies...they are real. :)

Hi Jodi,
My daughter lives in Portland,OR and I have never been out there yet but hope to get there next summer. Your trip sounded wonderful and from what you reported and what my daughter tells me that area of the USA is magnificent.

I love Seattle! :) I miss living there thats for sure.
Glad you had a great time!

I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Seattle/Tacoma. I had to laugh though because just yesterday we were driving through Tacoma and got a whiff of the famous "Tacoma Aroma" from some nearby factories and was explaining to my kids that Tacoma is affectionately nicknamed "the armpit of Washington" due to it's geographical location and it's industry. Regardless of the nicknames, it is a lovely area!

I'm also glad you enjoyed your trip to Seattle! You did leave just in time, our weather has definitely taken a turn for the worse. (but we really needed the rain)
Seattle is very beautiful. I think that we forget about all the fun things to do since we live here. You've inspired me to make new plans for next weekend! :)

The flowers in Pike Market are my favorite!!! Well, that and the fish throwing! I love visiting there. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. On our last trip to visit my brother, we drove from Snohomish to the Pacific. Stayed in Pacific Shores, then drove up to Olympic Natl. Park. So very beautiful. Love everything about the state, except for those banana slugs.
