Hi everybody! Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know I have the bestest DH in all the world. He and LizzY went to the Mets game at Shea Stadium today and he bought me a lime green mets hat. So that's how you identify me at the motherland!

Ahhh, he sounds like a keeper, but really how much persuasion did it take for LizzY to get him to buy the hats?

When I moved to Louisiana 4 years ago, I got a crash course in southern cooking. One of the first weekends I was here, my inlaws had a crawfish boil. Since then I've been hooked. tons of boiled crawfish, red potatoes, and corn on the cob... omg... I'm making myself hungry just thinking about it I've loved just about everything I've tried since I've moved here. The only thing I won't eat is oysters. Never did like the taste of them

I was only there one year and I feel like I learned quite a bit food/cooking wise. I will not do oysters either, but if you're ever San Antonio around April I do recommend Oyster Bake at St. Mary's University. Not for the Oysters; more so the live music and any other food you can think of. It's part of Fiesta Week in San Antonio.

They have Old Bay here in Louisiana. I love it in New England Clam Chowder. Oh and Crab boil is what is used to season boiled shrimp, crabs and crawfish here in the south.

Ok, I think I understand better. Basically its the stuff you put on the boiled shrimp, crabs, corn on the cob, and red potatoes. :thumpsup2 We use Old Bay on those things too, however, we don't boil the shrimp or crabs, we steam them. Get a big ole pot, put a strainer at the bottom, pour water or preferiably beer on the bottom layer with crabs & old bay-- YUMMY! Getting hungry thinking about it.

We're in San Jose, about 400 miles from DL. We have Interstate 5 in CA, also known as flying low, where we can do the trip in less than 6 hours, including lunch and a potty break. 101 is much prettier (lots of coastline) but ends up taking about 8 hrs.

LizzY says it was totally DH's idea and that she just helped him confirm that he had the right color. He's gone to Saturday's game and seen them and thought he'd have LizzY help him when they went on SUnday!

Have you paid your insurance yet? Each of our kids costs as much as DH and me together (and that's with the good student discount, no accidents or tickets, etc).

Yes, they added him automatically on his birthday and we just got the bill last week! OMG. Actually, it wasn't as much as ours together, but it was a hunk o money. I expect it to go down a bit, though, once he finds his last report card so I can send a copy. Straight As make a nice impression on the insurance company, don'tcha know. This, btw, is excellent bribery for him to keep his grades up. I've told him I don't want him to get a job this year if he can help it. His job is to continue to get good grades and I will pay his insurance and give him $20 a week for gas. Next summer, he will be able to get a job at the regional park right next to our house and should be able to keep that job on weekends only when school starts again. His best friend got a job at the grocery store a few months ago and is really struggling with grades and keeping a social life. My DS has learned from observation that this is not the way to go if it can be helped.

There's a period of years from 14 to godhelpmeIhopeitendssoon that kids do "duh" in varying stages, I guess. I don't limit this to boys...I was pretty duh until about age 20. As I told my mom yesterday, "and I thought toddlers were a lot of work! Gimme back my little kids!"

I'm not sure if you've ever listened to Car Talk on the radio, but they called it the brain damage ages (Bill Cosby used this reference too). Oh, and in boys I've also heard it called the "Hey, Watch This!" stage.

Is Emily planning on going where he is when she's old enough?

She still has no idea what it is she want to do with her life (Ben knew from about age 10) so she is staying in Highschool for a whole extra year. We used to go to grade 13 but then for some STUPID reason the goverment dropped that year and expect most kids to graduate at the end of grade 12. We have so many required courses that it leaves little time for the kids to "try out" some options. Easier for us though since paying for her to flounder for a year is better. Besides she needs the comfort and security fo home right now.

Crab boils (also known as shrimp or crawfish boils) are when you take a large pot (the bigger the better like 25 gal or more) on a propane burner outside and fill it with water, crab boil seasoning, new potatoes, corn on the cob, and then shell fish of some sort like crab, shrimp or crawfish. You boil the seafood till done and then remove all the veggies and seafood and put on a large table with news paper on it. Everyone gathers around the table (usually done as a large party) and just digs in. It is like a big barbque without the grill. That is how we do things down here in Louisiana.

We're using the job as leverage for the good grades. He likes "being da man". Ok he likes the money more. So far the job has been very good about scheduling him. He works no more than 18 hrs a week & usually not on a school night if so it's no more than 2 days a week & they get him out early.

Saturday morning Dobie woke me up at 7:30. I asked Angel to get up to let the dogs out. She opens the door to go downstairs & there's Brandon standing fully dressed in his uniform. She told me he wants daddy. I said for what, she said to go to take him to work. Now mind you Brandon doesn't have to be to work until 10 a.m. this day. I said Brandon are you , you don't even have to get up for work for another hour & a 1/2, no daddy's not getting up to take you. This was his reply "But my alarm clock went off at 7 ????????? " I said Brandon, you're alarm clock didn't just go off, you had to set it & he said "oh!"



I told my dh this is my new answer for everything. "Mom wants for dinner?" "But my alarm clock went off at 7?"

I did NOT die or even lapse into a coma, just got really, really lazy...I just couldn't keep up with it!!
