Our Not So Scary, Very Merry, Honeymoon - An Oct/Nov 2012 PTR

Wow, a busy weekend yes, but sounds like a lot of fun! We had the tall ships in Sydney a few years ago. Of course Sydney doesn't do near as much as Halifax, but it was still really cool to see the ships.

Ok so, I was reading this and I read it as; "My little brother, and my sister in law" as in, my own brother and his wife. Then I read the ages and hoped like heck I had made a mistake. :rotfl2: (Yes, I've got it now!!)

I can't believe what a great time you guys are going! MNSSHP, MVMCP, Food & Wine... wow.

Love the DHS hour then Epcot day plans!

It's awesome you got to see some of them! I take it some of them went up from Halifax again this year...did you get to see them if they did?

I also :rotfl2: at that

I still can't believe how fortunate we are to be able to go during that particular time of year...I knew that we'd be able to see MNSSHP and MVMCP, which was the whole reason behind that time frame, but I had no idea about F&W at Epcot, and I didn't think we'd get to see the Osbourne Lights at HS...I think this just might end up being the trip to end all trips at Disney for us, which is a good thing in a way, because we won't be able to go back for a while :sad1:, so we've got to make this one count!

Good plans! If you get bored that day, come on ove to AKL, where DD and I will be hanging out till it's time to head over to meet up with our family for the cruise portion of our trip.

That could be cool! My fiance doesn't need any more reasons to go over to AKL  she loves taking pictures of the animals on the Savannahs there. We may just pop over for a bit if we're up for it at the time :)

i actually really like that end picture.

Thanks! :goodvibes I thought it came out a bit blurry :confused3

Followed you over from my PTR. I have to go back and read! :) Just wanted to say hello

*Disclaimer* None of the photos in this post are mine

I've been meaning to post about the Food and Wine festival for a while now but just haven't gotten around to it until now.

For those of you who haven't seen the menus or booth information, you can find all that here, with some photos: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2012-epcot-food-and-wine-festival-marketplace-booths-and-menus/

I'm really looking forward to taking in this festival now that I've seen all of the booths and such. It's funny to think I didn't really know what it was or that it was happening when we'd be there when I first started this PTR.

I'm really excited about the following:

Dark-chocolate-mousse-with-chili-and-salted-caramel-lemon-custard-verrine-with-blueberry-compote-yogurt-panna-cotta-with-raspberries-orange-.jpg

These are from the Desserts and Champagne booth. I don't quite remember what they all are, except for the chocolate looking one is a mousse.

FW1-Karamell-035-500x333.jpg

That's a Belgian waffle, that sounds awesome

Germany-500x333.jpg

That's Apple Strudel, that also looks awesome

hops-and-barley-booth-pumpkin-mousse-2-350x525.jpg

I'm probably most excited about this, pumpkin mousse from the Hops and Barley booth. I LOVE pumpkin pie and pumpkin cheesecake, so I can only imagine how awesome this will be. I may end up getting more than one (not at once though )

italy-cannoli-500x333.jpg

This would be a dark chocolate cannoli from the Italy booth, that sounds to die for.

So, as you can tell, I have a bit of a sweet tooth :rolleyes1, so while I'm looking forward to trying the main food items from the booths, I'm most looking forward to the desserts . I'm also intrigued by some of the "adult" beverages, but I have to be careful because I don't want any migraines at Disney :sad2:

A lot of the paid seminars and events seem like they would be neat, but are too pricy for us, considering how long we'll be there and that I've already got a tour planned...and a little something extra (which I well get to in a minute) ;) That being said, I'm going to try my best to get us in to the 3D Dessert Discovery.

So I mentioned having a little something extra planned...

Well, I'm a member of a Facebook group for November DISsers and October DISsers. I'm not sure which one I found out about this from, but someone posted a link to a Groupon for...

parasail2sm.jpg

Parasailing! :woohoo: This was something my fiance really wanted to do, but when we found out how much it was we discounted it because we just couldn't justify the expense. With the Groupon we got it for $75 off, so we couldn't pass it up. I just have to call and make a reservation for us...actually I should probably do that tomorrow :cool1:

So, that's all for now. I just wanted to excite over the Food and Wine stuff, and post about the parasailing (which she knows about).

I hope everyone had a good weekend!
:cool2:

I can't believe that it took me this long to relize that you started a new PTR. Well better late than never right.:thumbsup2

I was actually thinking of you guys a month or so ago when I happened across that moon rock you gave Liam.:goodvibes

I love that you guys are getting married right before Halloween. I love halloween. I am so jealous that you get to do both MNSSHP and MVMCP. I was able to do MNSSHP for Liam's wish trip and it was so much fun. Someday I will go to WDW to see the Christmas decoration, but until than I will have live vicariously through you.:thumbsup2 (When we went Johnny Depp played Jack Sparrow in the parade. It has been said that he like to do this for the Halloween parades so keep your eyes open.)

I just love how your tatoo turned out. I could be wrong, but that is the one you had started when we saw you last year at MK right? It looks great. I hope to get a new tatoo on my back soon to honor my brother who just passed away.

Your plans look great, can't wait to read about the rest of the trip. I also love the dresses both of you picked out. You are both going to look so beautiful.:thumbsup2

Can't wait to read more.:coffee:

HI! :wave2: :welcome: back! It's nice to see you again! I'll have to take a look at what you've been up to since last year :thumbsup2

I think it's awesome he still has that rock :thumbsup2

Also, we chose that date because of our honeymoon  I sort of wanted it to be like what people used to do, have their wedding, and then leave right away for their honeymoon. My parents did this, leaving the reception early to catch their flight. There was no way I wanted to be that rushed, so we left a day between to get our stuff together and relax a bit, then we leave the following day. I feel like it says something about us as a couple that we planned our wedding around our Disney honeymoon :rotfl2:

Thanks for that tip! I had no idea, and it would be absolutely amazing to get to see Johnny Depp in the parade :cloud9:! I will keep a very watchful eye that night.

Thanks! :goodvibes That is the tattoo you would have seen with just the outline last year. Also, I'm sorry to hear that very sad news :guilty: :grouphug:

I hope you enjoy reading through the PTR so far :thumbsup2

Are you going to try anything except desserts? LOL. I thought that chocolate mousse was chili with sour cream on top at first!

The parasailing looks fun. One of the activities I want to do this year is rent a boat and drive it around. I always say I'm going to and we never do. It's a mission this year!

Oh yeah, I plan on sampling just about everything from each booth if I can. Like I said though, I do have a pretty big sweet tooth, so I'm more excited about the sweets than the meals.

Also, that's awesome you'll finally get to drive a boat! :thumbsup2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the rest of what I hope to try (or at least some of it):

Argentina: Beef Empanada (never had one) and the Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree (no idea what the sauce is or what Boniato is, but I'll try it!)
Australia: Shrimp on the Barbie (not normally a huge fan of shrimp, but I may give this a shot anyway), Grilled Lamb Chop (I love lamb), Lamington (sounds delicious, so I'll give it a go)
Belgium: Steamed Mussels in a beer broth with baguette (love mussels)
Brewer's Collection: Probably won't try anything here because I'm not a huge beer drinker, but you never know
Canada: Cheddar Cheese Soup (my mom used to make an awesome broccoli and cheese soup, so I just have to try this), "Le Cellier" Filet Mignon (a must try, I may have had this or something similar in 2008)
Caribbean Islands: Ropa Vieja with Cilantro Rice (have no idea what this is, but I'll try it because I probably won't get the chance again), Jerk Spiced Chicken Drumstick with Mango Chutney (sounds awesome)
Cheese: Trio of Artisan Cheeses (I love cheese)
Craft Beers: I'll probably skip this one too
Desserts and Champagne: See previous post  I'll probably end up trying some of the drinks too
Fife and Drum: Will probably skip this one, not sure what Jim Beam is
Florida: White Corn Arepa with Mangalitsa Pork Rilette and Zellwood Sweet Corn Salad (don't know what corn arepa is, also don't know what pork rilette is, but I'll give it a go anyway), I may try some of the beverages here too, but not sure about it yet
France: Escargots (a little nervous of this, but we'll probably try it anyway), Coq au Vin sur Gratin de Macaroni (I'm sure this will be good), Créme Brûlée au Chocolat au Lait (how can I resist?)
Germany: Schinken Nudel (will give it a shot), Roast Bratwurst in a Pretzel Roll (will try it, mostly for the pretzel roll ), Apple Strudel with Karamel-Vanilla Sauce (yum)
Greece: Griddled Greek Cheese with Pistachios and Honey (again with the I love cheese), Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki (love both of these things), Spanakopita (love this)
Hawaii: Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise (sounds awesome)
Hops and Barley: Will probably take one of everything, though it's going to have to be pretty impressive lobster to wow us, the lobster we get here is usually really good. I may even try the beer here, some of it sounds appealing to me.
Ireland: Will probably just get the lava cake, Guinness, and the Mead Honey Wine

So here we are again, another Friday. Which also means another Friday closer to Disney! :dance3: :woohoo: :cheer2:

So, I didn't quite get to finish my last post about the Food and Wine Festival, so I figured I'd re-post that and finish it. These are all the foods I'd like to try from all the booths that aren't desserts (there are a lot):

Argentina: Beef Empanada (never had one) and the Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree (no idea what the sauce is or what Boniato is, but I'll try it!)
Australia: Shrimp on the Barbie (not normally a huge fan of shrimp, but I may give this a shot anyway), Grilled Lamb Chop (I love lamb), Lamington (sounds delicious, so I'll give it a go)

Canada: Cheddar Cheese Soup (my mom used to make an awesome broccoli and cheese soup, so I just have to try this), "Le Cellier" Filet Mignon (a must try, I may have had this or something similar in 2008). I also have to point out that the Moosehead Beer that's being offered here is made here in Halifax :thumbsup2 I think it's kinda neat.

Ireland: Will probably just get the lava cake, Guinness, and the Mead Honey Wine
Italy: Baked Cheese Ravioli, Creamy Beef Bolognese, Parmesan, Mozzarella (has a fancier name, but sounds awesome)
Japan: Spicy Hand Roll, Karaage Hand Roll, California Roll, Sukiyaki Beef Pan (we love sushi and Japanese food)
Mexico: Crispy Shrimp Taco with Chipotle Lime Mayo and Cabbage Served on a Flour Tortilla, Taco de Filete with Cascabel Pepper Sauce and Scallions Served on a Flour Tortilla (we don't have many mexican restaurants here so I'm excited to try the stuff here)
Morocco: Kefta Pocket, Merguez Sausage, Baklava (all sound delish)
New Zealand: Seared Sea Scallop with Kumara Red Curry Puree and Apple Radish Salad, Lamb Meatball with Spicy Tomato Chutney (I'll probably try the lamb, while my fiance tries the scallops)
Poland: Kielbasa & Potato Pierogie with Caramelized Onions and Sour Cream (I love Kielbasa, it's pretty much the only sausage I'll eat, so I'm pretty excited for this), Zapiekanki-Toasted Mushroom, Caramelized Onion and Cheese Bread with House Made Ketchup (not a huge fan of mushroom, but I'll give it a shot)
Scandinavia: Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries (dunno what Lingonberries are, but I'll try them!)
Singapore: Beef Rendang with Jasmine Rice, Seared Mahi Mahi with Jasmine Rice and “Singa” Sauce (love Mahi Mahi)
South Africa: Seared Filet of Beef with Smashed Sweet Potatoes and Braai Sauce, Spinach and Paneer Cheese Pocket (all new to us, but sounds good!)
South Korea: Lettuce Wrap with Roast Pork and Kimchi Slaw (sounds interesting)
Terra: Trick’n Chick’n Curry with Basmati Rice featuring Gardein Chick’n Breast, Chili Colorado with House Made Chips & Cashew Cheese, featuring Gardein Beefless Tips, Chocolate Cake with Passion Fruit Sorbet and Coconut Foam (it all sounds amazing!)

So there you have it, the 2012 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival will both make us completely broke, and fat :rotfl: My take on it though, is that we may not get a chance to experience it again so we have to make the best of it while we can. Also, while I would love to try everything here, like I said I would, it realistically may not happen. You only have so much room in your stomach

I also have to digress for a minute here. I'm not sure what Canada has offered in the past, in terms of food at the festival, but there are a few gems they really should include, and I think some should be on a permanent basis :rolleyes1.

POUTINE! French fries, gravy, and cheese. Need I say more? :thumbsup2 The cheese is technically supposed to be cheese curds, but not all places that make poutine use them (and therefore the poutine isn't quite as good, I think). It's a heart attack waiting to happen, but it's so good! (you can also get fancy versions from a place called Smoke's Poutinerie) The picture below has cheese curds, not grated motzza cheese. I also didn't take it (or any of the pictures that will follow
poutine.jpg

Beaver Tails. See an earlier post I made about this (Beautiful Non-Disney Weekend).

Donairs. These are an East Coast thing here in Canada. If you go to Toronto or Vancouver, you won't be able to find one, at least not the same way we have them here. They are essentially some kind of meat (really not sure if it's lamb or beef, which is kinda scary, and why I don't often eat them ) roasted on a spit, shaved off onto a pita, add onions and tomatoes, and the donair sauce (which is a white sauce, very garlicky, and sweet). These aren't for everyone, including me. I can only handle a small amount of one, but I know people who could eat them every day (:crazy2:).
donair_primetime1.jpg

Garlic Fingers. Why can't you get these anywhere else?! It's a simple concept. Pizza dough, coated with garlic butter, and covered in cheese. Cut into fingers rather than pizza wedges, and dip them in donair sauce (see above) or pizza sauce. In fact, we had some last night with our pizza :thumbsup2
a_Garlic_Fingers02.gif

The unfortunate thing about all of these foods are that they are all terrible for you, in a bad way, but they are oh so tasty. If you ever visit Nova Scotia or one of the Maritime Provinces in Canada, you should give them a shot. :thumbsup2

In other Disney-related news, the new Fantasyland Expansion now has an opening date! :dance3: It's not until December though. That doesn't make me :sad2: or . I'm actually pretty indifferent about it. While I would love to see it, that's not why we're going, nor did we have anything planned concerning it. If we somehow happen to have lady luck on our side, and a little pixiedust: maybe we'll get to see a soft opening, but I'm by no means counting on it. A lot of people seem to be upset that it won't be open until December, but that's the thing with this stuff...you can't plan for them until they have a date when they're set to open. :confused3 Oh well, maybe I'm a bad DISser for thinking this.

So before I go, just wanted to mentioned that I booked our parasailing today! Right now it's set for November 7th at 1pm. :thumbsup2

Parasailing looks like fun!

As for the food and wine festival... Dang, that is an impressive lineup of awesome food. I expect to hear of every tiny detail. It will be so romantic for you two!

You mean donairs are an east coast thing?? Hahaha I never knew that! I don't eat them so I don't exactly miss them when I'm away.

Quite a list for the Food & Wine Festival! Good luck with that! I tried exactly one thing from the F&W and on that note I have a piece of advice. If your significant other gets cranky in the middle of Epcot and doesn't want to stand in lines, pay high prices, or experiment with different foods, you should do it anyway and tell them to go wait for you somewhere cool. That way, in a year's time you won't be bitter and ranting on other people's PTRs about how you only tried one thing. :lmao:

I've lost 7 pounds over the summer by watching what I eat and exercising. I'm going to gain it all back and then some at the F&W festival!

Poutine looks amazing. Donairs = gyros to me. That's exactly what they sound like.

I've made my peace months ago with the Fantasyland opening. I knew it wouldn't be open in time and when they announced the date I was like 'Ok, that just means another trip.' Whatever!

don't worry, i have just as many desserts on my food and wine list... i'm so glad i have to share them with 3 others!

the mousse is what i am most looking forward to. i think that it has caramel and sea salt right? i love sweet and salty foods!

I definitely will do a TR when I get back :thumbsup2 I'm also hoping to take some video as well, so hopefully that all works out and I'll have lots of awesome things to put in that TR. I've always wanted to do sort of a vlog but with my Disney vacations, and I've never done it because I hate hearing my voice in videos  Hopefully I'll be able to get over that this time

I had no idea garlic fingers were an east coast thing until recently...I thought it was really weird you couldn't get them in, say, Alberta. :confused3 I don't miss donairs much either though.

Also, I'll keep that in mind :thumbsup2

I've heard of gyros before, but never had one. I'll have to give one a shot if I get the chance. Also, I so wish I could share the joy of poutine with you

Same here. I figured that I probably wouldn't get to see it, so I wasn't disappointed at all when I found out the opening date. I'd really like to see the new Test Track though, but I'm also not expecting to see that either.

Yay, I'm glad it's not just me! :goodvibes

And yeah, I think that mousse does have caramel and sea salt. It sounds so good! :hyper:

So, now that I've got the food part of the trip taken care of, lets get down to business :surfweb: Well, sort of..

This post is all about the little stuff. The Disney List, if you will.

- Buy the Canon SX240 Camera from work, in "red". I've been eyeing this camera for a few months, well, more like drooling over it  It's a small camera with a 20x zoom lens, which is amazing for the size of the camera. It's got a lot of other cool features, like a miniature setting, and a setting that will pick up only one colour of your choosing (green, blue, red). The end result on that setting is a black and white photo with hints of that particular colour. The miniature setting is really neat. It apparently only really works outside, but on this setting it takes everyday stuff and makes it look tiny, kind of like the train set in Germany in Epcot. I'll show you guys what I mean when I get the camera, which will hopefully be today :woohoo:
canon_powershot_sx240hs_red_l-500x500.jpg

- Get face paint or make-up (I don't normally wear it). This one is for my MNSSHP costume. I've decided on going as a sugar skull. I really hope they'll let me in the park with the face paint I'm hoping to do. It's not offensive in any way, but to some children it could be a bit scary. I'm hoping to use lots of bright pinks and blues though, and floral designs, so hopefully it will be okay. I'm hoping to do something like this, but more pink rather than blue:

5770305742103128_Yl2xlwCm_b.jpg

- Pre-order the Photopass, or potentially find a share. I'm reluctant to do the share because it will be our honeymoon photos, and I really don't want them to get lost or anything.
disneyphotopass.jpg

- GET MARRIED!!! :love2: :cloud9: :lovestruc

- Figure out how we're getting to the airport. I'm assuming that one of my parents will drive us out, or my brother, but we leave early on a Monday morning, so I'm not sure.
3-halifax.jpg

- Pay off the trip! This one I'm a little worried about, only because we have to have our final payment in by September 14th, and our wedding isn't until 2 days before we leave :scared1: I'm sure it will work out, but right now it's a bit scary :scared:

So that's about it for my list at the moment. I'm sure I'll think of more things soon, but right now my mind is a bit pre-occupied with other things...namely wedding planning. :headache:  It's going well so far, but we've still got quite a few things to do. It seems like most people received our invites, so that's good to know :thumbsup2 It's just the small details we need to iron out now.

(also, none of those photos were mine, as you could probably guess. Sorry the first one is a little large)

Are you a member of the Oct Facebook page? There are a few photo pass shares on there. I'd be less concerned sharing one of those just because you have a little more personal information since its Facebook.

Yeah, I am. I know there were a few going on, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to look into it a bit further :scratchin
