Just had to show off our new fur-baby! I am so thrilled with him that I was actually inspired to add a pic to my sig even though I had no clue how to.

We got him on Saturday and he is doing great. He's almost 9 weeks old and he is a Jack Russell, we named him Dash after The Incredibles (and that he's a speedy one :teeth: )

He is for our DD11, and she is so excited!!! He and I went for a ride this morning to meet his new vet and he had everyone in love with him before we left.

When we went to pick him up, they also had 8 week old beagles who were so adorable, but this guy won our heart.

I LOVE HIM :love2: I have wanted a Jack Russell for such a long time!
HE is such a cutie - have fun!! :goodvibes

Have you gotten signed up for obedience classes y et? I've heard Jack Russells can be extremely stubborn and hard to train if you're not used to them. :)

But he is a cutie. Welcome to the DIS family, Dash.

Thanks everyone!

Obedience classes sound like a good idea, I wonder if they let kids do that as I want DD to bond with him as much as possible and it would be good for her to learn more on how to handle and teach him things.

Off to go meet DD as she comes home from school, today was the first day here and her first day at Middle School, which meant also her first day riding a bus. I told her Dash and I would be waiting for her when it pulled up :paw:

Talk to the trainer at your local PetSmart. I know they let kids (provided they are old enough) participate in the training classes at the one where a friend of mine works as a trainer in Lewisville. :)
Once he goes through the obedience classes, if you want, you can also sign him up for Canine Good Citizen classes (which is more intensive obedience training).
To keep your pup occupied (and to give your DD something to do with him),check and see if there are local 'dog dancing' classes/groups or other dog-related activities. :)

Good luck.

Congrats on the cute puppy! Dash is a great name too! :dog: :goodvibes

What a cutie.. :dog: .........I am sure EsmeraldaX can give you lots of info on Jack Russells since 2 of them (Monty and Dodger) rule her house! :sunny:

Definitely get your DD involved in his training...Jack Russels are extremely smart and can be a handful if they are not worked with on a regular basis. My Aunt and Uncle picked one up from the Animal Humane and since he was already a year old and had not been trained well, they had to do several intensive courses just to manage his hyperactivity! (They never have managed to ease his Napoleonic complex though! ;) )

Good Luck and Congratulations- Dash is a cutie!

:goodvibes A big Jack Russell Hello from Monty Dog, below, and Dodger, my two JRTs.

Get Dash into obedience training as soon as possible. As others have said, JRTs are stubborn, and need strict training and discipline from the moment you bring them home. They should also be socialized as much as possible.
They are a handful for a while, even with training. They are soooo smart too, and need to be kept busy, both mentally and physically. But I'm sure you know all this already. ;)

If I may recommend some toys? It's best to stick with solid rubber. Kong is always good, but there are also these great bright green toys at Discovery store. My two have managed to rip apart pretty much everything else.

He is just soooo cute. :goodvibes

Hello to Monty Dog and Dodger from Dash. I've noticed their pictures before and they seem like wonderful little guys :flower: :sunny:

I am going to call PetCo tomorrow, they offer a class... I just need to see how old he needs to be. I talked with a friend who went to their training with her dog and their daughter and she said it was really a good idea to involve our DD.

He is a little smarty, I can't believe how smart. This is only his third day here and this morning after going outside when he came back inside he went straight to his pet porter with no prompting from me. He's already learned "kennel up" and goes when told.

We are really enjoying getting to know his personality. The funniest thing he does is when he gets tired he lays down right away and almost goes straight to sleep... doesn't matter what he's doing when he gets tired. During a walk down the street he flopped on his side and tried to doze right there.

I will look into the solid rubber toys, he loves to chew anything, so those will be very handy. The vet told me this morning that having my daughter carry and hold him like a baby (belly up) is very good for him, because it teaches him to be submissive to her. Good thing, as he loves to be carried around like that. He has already met the neighbor dog and they got along well, she is an older dog and very friendly so I knew she would be good with him.

He is just so much fun and has really brought a lot to our house these past few days. He's got each one of us right where he wants us :lovestruc

He sounds wonderful. Yes, you want him to learn you are the boss asap. They are SO smart. :goodvibes And hilarious to watch. :) Mine are downright lap dogs, they are so snuggly.

As far as toys, the reason I mentioned it is because we spent so much $$ on bad toys when we first got Monty. It was probably a year before we realized that anything made of cloth, fluff, latex, vinyl or even things made of solid rubber that had parts that stick out were just not worth it.

Right now, we have several Kongs, a nice hard rubber ball, 5 of these great discs that they have at Pets Mart. I can't recall what they are called but they come in pink, purple, orange, green and black and that are a solid rubber circluar ring with a solid rubber bone through the middle. They are great. We also have one each of those toys from the Discovery Store. They cost a little more but they last. Well worth it.

Welcome to the family Dash! :paw: You are a cutie, from Jamie. Wait til Spencer teaches Dash how to use the toilet paper.... :rotfl: Good luck with the trainning, I have always heard that JRT are hard, so are beagles! I don't think beagles are as hard as JRT.
