Our Magical WDW Adventure ~ 23 Days of Fun, Food, Cocktails... London Trip 2/8

I am sat at home on this winters eve, and as I look out the window it looks so festive and beautiful. The sun is setting behind the trees and there is a low red and orange glow coming from behind the leafless trees which appear like silhouettes. There are a few little rabbits in the field and across the road lights flicker from the houses. It is beautiful and looks like something from a painting. Whats even more lovely is that I am sat here watching Steel Magnolia's. I used to love this film and haven't seen it for years. Its making me so excited in so many ways. Firstly they have just had the most beautiful Christmas with festivals and parties and gorgeous decorations... it looks so perfect I want to be there. And secondly because it is set in the South and it is making me so excited for my holiday next year. It reminds me how I love the South, the warmth and liveliness of the people, the beauty of the country, and the great Dolly Parton. It is so great seeing her in a film after being at her park and her hometown. And when this is over Home Alone is on, so I get even more of a Christmas fix. Isn't this just the most beautiful time of year :cloud9:.

Melissa ~ From what I have heard they are updating the system so you can book reservations online. I know in the long run this will probably be a good thing but its typical it has to effect our bookings. I have heard they may be changing the booking window from 180 days to 90 too but all the CM's tell you different things, I don't think they really know TBH.

Are they updating just for booking trips online? I thought you could do that already? Or is it for making ADR's and all that? That would be cool, and save people a lot of time. I'd love being able to book restaurants online... although I would miss the fun of getting to "talk to Disney" from NY :lmao:

It really is :goodvibes I've never seen Steel Magnolias but I have it saved on my Tivo. I had no idea it had anything to do with Christmas so maybe I'll watch it this week. I also have Home Alone and Home Alone 2 saved to watch later this week! We decorated for the holidays this weekend, and it got me so excited for the rest of the month. We put our tree up last night, and this is the earliest it's ever gone up. We usually put it up a week or so before Christmas, so it's nice to have everything done early and to get even more into the spirit. What are some of your favorite Christmas movies?

Melissa ~ There updating it so you can book ADR's online. It will be cool and save a lot of time, last year we spent over an hour on the phone booking ADR's. Its just a pain they have to do it now. And like you said I will miss speaking to those friendly Disney people, it makes it seem so real.

TBH I had forgotten it had anything to do with Christmas in. Its only a short part of the film but it makes you want to be part of it so badly, it looks so much fun and so festive. Then again its pretty sad, so maybe its not the most festive film :sad1:.

Glad to hear you have your decorations up, we're doing ours tomorrow and I cannot wait. I love it when the tree is up, it looks so beautiful. And one of my favorite times is sitting down watching films and wrapping my presents :cloud9:. We used to put our tree up the second Sunday before Christmas at home but since everyone else seems to already have theres up and I'm not feeling too Christmassy yet, we thought we would get it up. Oh and the extortionate price of trees over here make me want to get the most use out of it.

My favorite Christmas films are:
Miracle on 34th Street - that is definately the real santa. And everythign is just so beautiful and Christmassy. I guess you get to experience a lot of it for real living in NY.
Santa Clause and the Movie - We used to watch this every year as kids so it reminds me so much of Christmas. I think he could be the real santa too. And that toy shop is amazing.
Muppets Christmas Carol - So funny
Mickey's Christmas Carol - Another film I have watched since I was little. And of course its Disney.
The Grinch - Reminds me of Universal

How about you :confused3

Those are all such good ones! I have a list of favorites though, that I make sure to watch every single holiday season - Christmas Story (greatest ever :lovestruc), Christmas Vacation, Love Actually, The Holiday, Home Alone, Home Alone: Lost in New York, Christmas in Boston and Holiday in Handcuffs. The last two are fairly new, made-for-TV movies, but I love them and they really remind me of Christmas :goodvibes I also watch whatever cheesy Christmas movies are on Lifetime and the Hallmark Channel  Those are the best!

I love the Hallmark Channel, it plays my favorite programme ever.

We brought Nightmare Before Christmas the other day as can you believe we have never seen it before. And after halloween at DLP we decided we needed to this year. I have also never seen the classics, White Christmas or What A Wonderful Life so have to buy them to watch this year. I love Love Actually, I might have to watch that in the next few days. And Santa Clause and Bad Santa, that ones funny. I love them all...

Oh my gosh, I love hallmark channel! I watch it like crazy this time of year!

I agree, I really like Santa Claus the Movie! It is so good!! Prancer is another one of my favs too!

I cant say I have been watching it this time of year yet. Is there anything good on?

I haven't seen Prancer, whats it about :confused3

CoP Luv ~ I am just sitting at home watching Home Alone and it made me think of you. Seeing it (being Chicago) all lit up and looking beautiful for Christmas, all covered with snow and lights, it makes me want to go. And now I have seen the house again I don't think your weird for visiting it. Its a gorgeous house, I wouldn't mind one like that myself.

YEAH for Home Alone!!! It is always a good one and it keeps me laughing everytime I watch it even though I have seen it about 84 billion times. :rolleyes1

DH and I went to the Chicago Bears  football game today and boy was it cold out there!!! I don't think that I have fully warmed up yet and we have been home now for almost three hours!!! It was probably -1 with wind chill and just sitting in our seats just chilled us to the bone. It was fun though, especially with a victory! :thumbsup2

Chicago is beautiful at Christmas time, but this year it is brutally cold. The news this morning said it was 25 degrees below the normal temp. :sad2: Though around Thanksgiving is a great time to come too, since they have a Lights Festival where the Christmas Lights are lit on Michigan Ave. and there is a parade with fireworks...and guess who is the star?? MICKEY! So it would be like watching the MVMCP Parade and a very dumbed down version of Wishes!

OK - I will stop rambling now so you can book your ticket to Chicago! :rotfl:

CoP Luv ~ Sounds like you had a lovely day yesterday. I really want to watch an American football game, I am hoping there will be one on when we go to the Smokie's next year. I can imagine that although it must be pretty cold, it must be really nice watching games at this time of year, all snuggled up drinking hot drinks and hot dogs. But then that is probably just me watching too many TV programmes :lmao:

It sounds like Thanksgiving would be a great time to come. I would love to see that light festival, it sounds great. And since I have never seen MVMCP I cannot compare so it will be great :thumbsup2.

I cant believe how cold it is over there. I thought it was pretty cold here today but then I was only wearing a t.shirt and coat so it can't have been too cold. And its pretty sunny here too. I hope it warms up for you soon :goodvibes

I love the Hallmark Channel, it plays my favorite programme ever.

Hallmark's the best  What's your favorite show ever?

And I just finished reading your Gatlinburg report and loved it! It's amazing how much you all did for your mom, she must have felt so special :goodvibes And that cabin was GORGEOUS! The views were absolutely amazing, I can only imagine how gorgeous it was in person :lovestruc

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :thumbsup2. I think I tried even harder for my Mum this year because not only was it her 50th but because we were initially suppose to go to NY and I had all these great ideas planned. Then when we decided to go to PF there wasn't anything that I could find that had the 'Wow' factor like some of the things in NY. Plus Dollywood wasn't open that day. I just wanted her to have the best, and most memorable birthday ever and luckily I think I achieved that :goodvibes

Diagnosis Murder, the best show of all time. And starring one of the 2 greatest men of all time, I love Dick Van **** :lovestruc

I love how it sensors Dick Van **** ( ) That's so random! Anyway, I love him too! He's not my favorite actor but he's definitely a classic :thumbsup2 I've never seen Diagnosis Murder, what's it about?

OMG you have never seen Diagnosis Murder, the shame, the shame :sad2:.
Its one of my favorite programmes ever and I watch it nearly every day (although I have seen practically every episode at least twice). Its a bit like Murder She Wrote (another one of my favorite programmes and actresses - you can see I love the cheesinest factor :rolleyes1), Dick VD (he he) is a doctor turned sleuth. His son is a detective so Dick, aka Dr Mark Sloane, helps out, along with Amanda (pathologist) and Jack or Jesse (Interns). Its really light hearted and slightly predictable, but lots of fun. And Steve Sloane, his son in the show, is also his son in real life, and quite often his other children and grandchildren appear in it.. There was one episode that practically every one in the credits was a Van ****... it was so funny :lmao:. I dont know how anyone cannot absolutely love Dick, he is a legend. And please say you have seen Murder She Wrote :confused3

It sounds good, I'll have to check it out one time! And sure I've seen Murder She Wrote... :rolleyes1  Sorry, I've never seen it! I'm usually too busy obsessing over Boy Meets World! :lmao: Did you guys get that over there?

OMG where in the world do you live, Siberia :confused3. That can be the only reason you have never seen 2 of the best programmes ever.

Yes we got Boy Meets World, but years and years ago when it first came out. I used to watch it when it was originally on, my sister and I used to love it. It was really weird, about the same time we used to watch a programme called Full House. Now I could remember the name of the programme but never what it was about. Then when we were at Disney in May we had the TV on and I kind of recognized the programme but didn't know its name, turns out it was Full House. It was really random

I shouldn't watch TV in America, it always ends up bad. We always start watching something and love it, and then have to keep watching it when we get home. Its not cheap :sad2:

I've heard of those two shows, but just never turned them on :confused3 I'm completely fascinated by the fact that you "used to watch a programme called Full House." Full House is still on 25-billion times a day in the US. Seriously, every time I turn on the TV Full House is on. It's one of the most popular shows of all time here... people are still following Mary Kate and Ashley in the tabloids  They pulled Boy Meets World reruns off the air last year (:sad2:) but luckily I taped them all on DVDs before they did :woohoo: Full House, Step By Step, The Fresh Prince, Saved By the Bell, Home Improvement and all those other ridiculously awesome 90's shows are still on all the time. I love talking about the differences in everyday life/pop culture between here and the UK!

How do you watch American shows over there, besides the ones on TV? Do you buy the DVDs? There's a great site I use to watch both old and new TV shows. They just stream them from random Japanese sites, but I use it to catch up on a bunch of shows I've missed. Just choose "TV" on the right-hand menu, and type in any show. Let me know if it works for you!

LOL, a show called Full House. Back in the day, you weren't cool unless you watched Full House!! "You got it, dude!"
Now that I'm older and watch it, it's usually corny, but I still watch it. You can't deny that it's classic!
Melissa, I was just thinking about BMW and how much I miss it coming on! I loved that show.

Ariel, your plans look good. I can't wait to see how they play out!

How rude! Full House is so ridiculously, over-the-top cheesy that it crosses back over to fabulous. And Uncle Jesse was HOT! ;) Boy Meets World was the best. Everyone I know still loves it, so I'm surprised they took it off the air and canceled the release of the DVDs :sad2:

I LOVE Muppets Christmas Carol!!! Love the rats and I can still remember the love song that was sung in that movie.
