Our Magical WDW Adventure ~ 23 Days of Fun, Food, Cocktails... London Trip 2/8

Hey girly!! I was just checking in with you!! Your plans are looking good!!

I love Sophie's birthday pictures!!!! The safari theme was so cute!!

I cant say I have been watching it this time of year yet. Is there anything good on?

I haven't seen Prancer, whats it about :confused3
There have been some pretty good movies on so far!

Ooooh, its so good!!! It has Sam Elliot in it. His daughter finds Prancer the reindeer and is just bound and determnined to take care of him until he can get to Santa. Its one of those feel good movies!!

I've heard of those two shows, but just never turned them on :confused3 I'm completely fascinated by the fact that you "used to watch a programme called Full House." Full House is still on 25-billion times a day in the US. Seriously, every time I turn on the TV Full House is on. It's one of the most popular shows of all time here... people are still following Mary Kate and Ashley in the tabloids  They pulled Boy Meets World reruns off the air last year (:sad2:) but luckily I taped them all on DVDs before they did :woohoo: Full House, Step By Step, The Fresh Prince, Saved By the Bell, Home Improvement and all those other ridiculously awesome 90's shows are still on all the time. I love talking about the differences in everyday life/pop culture between here and the UK!

How do you watch American shows over there, besides the ones on TV? Do you buy the DVDs? There's a great site I use to watch both old and new TV shows. They just stream them from random Japanese sites, but I use it to catch up on a bunch of shows I've missed. Just choose "TV" on the right-hand menu, and type in any show. Let me know if it works for you!

Thanks, I will check out that link in a minute :thumbsup2.

They used to play all the American shows over here, Fresh Prince, Saved by the Bell, Full House, Home Improvement... they used to be on lots on one of the Sky channels but I am not sure which. And they were on when they were originally released, not replays. Then when my parents split we stopped getting Sky for a bit and when we got it back they had stopped playing all those shows. We get the odd few now on some random channels, I have seen Fresh Prince and Home Improvement re-runs on, but they are on all different channels, whereas they all used to be played on one so you knew where to find them. As for Full House I don't think it was ever that big over here, when I have mentioned it to others no-one has ever heard of it. Saved by the Bell was always a big show though, I used to love hat so much. My sister and I would watch it religiously, Zeke was so funny :lmao:

Now we get a lot of American programmes on but they are more international ones like CSI, Desperate Housewives and Lost, all very well known and big over here. One of Nick and my favorite channels though is Paramount Comedy where they play all the American comedy programmes which aren't as well known over here. Our favorites are King of Queens, 2 and a half men and Everybody Loves Raymond. It also plays Fraiser (that did used to be big over here), Becker and a few others. One of our favorites at the moment though is Scrubs. For some reason we missed it whilst it was initially on but now we love it, its so funny.

We both watch far to much TV, and since we come to America we find new series that we have to start watching too :rolleyes1. We love crime programmes, all the CSI's and Criminal Minds are our favorites but we love The Closer and Without a Trace too. We love comedies, Friends is my best show EVER (I miss it so much), Will and Grace (another fav), Scrubs, and the other Paramount ones. And then theres Lost, 24, Desperate Housewives... all of which we used to watch loads but have kind of lost track of recently. Oh and my new favorite, the Gilmore Girls :lovestruc

We don't have too much good TV over here. We have a lot of soaps, Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, The Bill etc, they are very popular. We have a few comedy programmes like Little Britain and the Catherine Tate Show, but they are like mini sketches rather than series. And then there are the endless amounts of reality programmes... Britains Next Top Model, X-factor, Strictly Come Dancing (my top 3), I'm A Celebrity, Big Brother... the list goes on, they seem to make reality programmes about just about anything they possibly can these days, most are ridiculous :sad2:. Have you seen any of these UK programmes?

LOL, a show called Full House. Back in the day, you weren't cool unless you watched Full House!! "You got it, dude!"
Now that I'm older and watch it, it's usually corny, but I still watch it. You can't deny that it's classic!
Melissa, I was just thinking about BMW and how much I miss it coming on! I loved that show.

Ariel, your plans look good. I can't wait to see how they play out!

Thanks, hopefully they will pan out the way I have planned but you never know, theres a lot that could happen between now and then :confused3

Full House was never very big over here and I was pretty young when it was on. Up till I watched it in America in May I never realised that is where Mary Kate and Ashley came from. Watching it I knew I recognised them but couldn't work out where from :rotfl:

I LOVE Muppets Christmas Carol!!! Love the rats and I can still remember the love song that was sung in that movie.

It is so funny, I love it. There is one bit in it that has me in stitches every time. The bit where they spend ages trying to get over the big gate and they fall off and things. And then one of them realises he left his candy on the other side and just walks through the bars, its classic :lmao:

I will have to see if Nick can get it, I haven't seen them selling it over here :sad2:

I have just been catching up on all of the TV talk!!!!

I LOVE Full House, and yes, it is on about 84 billion times here...as with Saved by The Bell. Two great shows that I will never get tired of!

You really should get back on track with Lost. It is so good and the last season was hair-raising!!! :scared1: I just started watching about a year and a half ago and got all of the DVDs and am all caught up. The next season starts in about a month and I cannot wait!

I have really started to get into Gossip Girl. It is such a "bad" show but I love it!! Don't know if you get that one over in the UK.

When I lived in London for a summer, we were all addicted to Big Brother. I didn't even know what the show was about and never knew that there was a US version. It was totally outragous that the characters were all over the tabloids the day they got out of the house.

Now we get a lot of American programmes on but they are more international ones like CSI, Desperate Housewives and Lost, all very well known and big over here. All those sitcoms are the best! We love Friends, Will and Grace, Scrubs, Seinfeld, The King of Queens and so many more :thumbsup2 I used to love Gilmore Girls too! I gave up on it after the third or fourth season though. Do you guys have 30 Rock yet? It's fairly new (it started last year) but it's about a late night sketch show (like SNL), and my dad works for SNL so it's so much fun to watch, and it's hilarious! Do you guys get SNL?

The only British show I watch is Skins :lovestruc We have other British shows (including one of my favs, The Office :lovestruc) but they're all American versions. We have Little Britain here on HBO but I've never seen it. Oh, we also got Extras on HBO!!! "Are you having a laugh?!" :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: LOVE that show! We have all the same reality shows too... my whole family's obsessed with Big Brother summer after summer

CoP Luv ~ I know I should start watching Lost again, and Nick keeps on about it all the time. We used to watch them all before they were even out over here, we loved it so much we would sit and watch loads of episodes at a time. And then they had a break and when it came back we just kind of lost track. The same with 24, but I find that stresses me out. Funny I know, and I love it, its so cleve, but theres so much going on and so much to think about, and I always find myself shouting at the TV :lmao: .

We get Gossip Girl and I wanted to watch it but its on some weird channel and I kept forgetting which channel it was and when it was on. I think I saw about 2 episodes, one I know was Thanksgiving and it was quite good.

I can't believe you lived in London, that is so cool. I live about 30-40 minutes from London and visit often, where did you live :confused3

Oh and I have just been checking out your blog, your wedding was stunning :thumbsup2

You have to watch Gossip Girl! I hate to admit how much I love that show - Chuck Bass is such a badass. Can I say that? They didn't filter it so I guess I can  They film it all over the city, and whenever they're supposed to be visiting Ivy League schools around the northeast, it's actually my college here in Brooklyn  I've met Chase Crawford a few times and that boy's beautiful

No we don't have SNL, well I haven't seen it on our TV anyway. We don't have every channel, but TBH I don't think they have it over here at all. I am still waiting for Nick to get MTV as promised :rolleyes1. We don't have 30 Rock yet, I wonder what channel it will be on. We have so many channels and the shows are all over the place and change all the time so it is hard to know where to look.

The British Office is a classic. Especially the one where Ricky Jervais does the robot, its so funny :lmao:. As for BB I gave up watching it over here after season 4 I think. It seems to be on every other month now and they get more and more ridiculous.
I do love some reality TV though, and watch both the UK and US versions of some. I have just finished watching Dancing With The Stars which was great. Brooke was amazing, I loved Lacey she is so cute and quirky, and Warren was so funny. Our British version is Strictly Come Dancing and its the semi-final this week, I cannot wait. Its between a guy from a British TV drama, Rachel Steven's from S Club 7 (do you know?) and Lisa Snowden who is the host of Britain's Next Top Model. Oh and then that starts in January, I cannot wait. Its the final of ANTM next week so I won't have that long to wait for the next. But one of my best shows is SYTYCD, but we are still waiting for the last season over here, I'm getting worried they may not show it. Unfortunately we don't get the talent over here to make a UK version :sad2:

I will have to start watching it then. Thats so cool they film it at your school, you have such a cool life :thumbsup2

So yesterday was our 'Christmas Day'. Every year Nick and I have a Christmas day where we put all our decorations up, watch some Christmas films, listen to Christmas songs and have our own Christmas dinner. We used to have it because when we were at University we used to spend Christmas with our own families, so it was our chance to have our own Christmas together. Now we spend it with my family but its so hectic, and its just become a kind of tradition. It helps to get us in the holiday spirit :santa:.

So yesterday we started our day at Starbucks for a Christmas panini and coffee. We love Starbucks anyway but at Christmas it rocks, its so festive and reminds me of being at University. Then we went and got our tree. I wasn't looking forward to this as last year it took us hours and endless visits to every garden center and shop in a 30 mile radius, it was stressful to say the least :guilty:. Well the first place we went to, and the first tree we saw, we brought. It was great, if a little short and uneven for my perfectionism, but I have been a little bit under the weather and didn't have the energy to spend endless hours of tree searching to probably end up with one not much better. So we carted the tree home, got out the decorations and put on the Christmas songs, and started to decorate. Now since we had been so successful with finding our tree our was hoping this process was going to be pretty simple.... Wrong. Firstly we had a not-so-quick detour to 2 different Tesco's, Woolworths and Sainsburys for some more lights as 1 of our set had stopped working. We once again came home and got decorating. Then we took about 3 hours on just the lights, which even after buying more we still didn't have enough. And then there was the whole big decision of whether to have tinsel or not. Who ever knew that something as fun as decorating a Christmas tree could be so stressful :confused3. Well I then got to do the fun bit and put on the decorations, then arranged the fireplace which is my favorite part. Finally around midnight we were done. The cats love it and find it great fun to pull the decorations that were so meticulously placed off again. But as of yet no major disasters. I will post some pictures soon but need to get the presents wrapped and under first.

I love all the lead up to Christmas, not only is it such a magical time of year, but helps pass the time a little quicker, which is always a blessing where Disney holidays are concerned :woohoo: . And I love just sitting here looking at the tree, the lights twinkling, the stockings hung on the fire filled with Disney cheer. Only 16 more days till Christmas, and only 137 more days till WDW..

You have to watch Gossip Girl! I hate to admit how much I love that show - Chuck Bass is such a badass.

:happytv: It has gotten SOOOOOOOO good these past few weeks. Sorry, Ariel, I am interrupting your PTR to find out what the heck happened with Lily and some French hospital. I missed most of the second half of last season...damn those writers! Anyway, I am lost on that point. Troobabiee - can you fill me in?

OK, back to talking about cocktails and ADRs...:rotfl:

You really need to start watching it again. You can get all of the episodes on abc.com. That's how I was able to catch up. Endless hours on the computer when I came home from work. :surfweb: DH thinks the show is really stressful, especially with the music that they play in each episode. The only shows he likes are South Park, Family Guy and ESPN College Football. :headache: Another great show is The Amazing Race...another stressful show but I am totally addicted to it. They haven't made them into DVDs really, but I watch religously every Sunday night when it is on. The season just ended and I hope they come up with another one soon!

I did live in London for the summer of 2004. I was on an internship with my company and lived in a horribly gross apartment in St. John's Wood. Great area, they just never actually made my flat building blend in with all of the other mansions that I lived around. We actually lived next to the cricket ground. My office was jealous that I lived so close and I could care less about cricket. :sad2: Sorry, but I never understood it. My coworkers tried to teach me, but were never successful. Anyway, I work in insurance so I was pretty much in the City everyday and working in Lloyd's of London. It was great fun and I met some awesome people and was able to go to some great events!

I can totally appreciate Tesco and Sainsbury!!! There was a Tesco Express not to far from my office and close to the Liverpool St. tube so I would just stop in there and get some groceries. The closest Sainsbury with in Swiss Cottege in the O2 plaza I think so we had to take the tube there. But it was awesome and huge!!!!

What I miss most about London is Harrod's (yes, I am awful, I know, but I love it there!!) and Cadbury  . Give me a Curly Wurly and you are my best friend. I have found a few places to get them here but they are so expensive!! I think they are $2.50 in Epcot!!! :scared1: DH's sister gave me a whole box of them for Christmas last year. I was in heaven...until their dog thought they were good too and took two of them from me. :headache: Dumb dog. :sad2: Anyway, I got my family a giant box (we're talking about 3 ft. tall) of Cadbury Fingers for Christmas. It is going to be hard to give that away. How I love Cadbury!

Anyway, glad you like reading about our wedding. It was a lot of work, but everyone had a great time!!! Hopefully soon, I will post about our honeymoon. Probably won't be as good since I barely remember all of the funny parts!

Sorry things were so stressful, Ariel. But it's all worth it once everything's up and looks all pretty :goodvibes We want some pictures!

 Of course! I actually didn't start watching it until this past summer, when I downloaded the entire first season (shhh, don't tell the CW ) Lily was Rufus' groupie when they were younger and Rufus was still in a band. They dated for a while and have been trying to get back together throughout the series, but weren't sure if it was a good idea because of Dan and Serena, and then because of Lily's marriage to Bart. Now with Bart out of the picture they decided to try to work things out, but Lily's mother told Rufus the big secret - that Lily was in a French hospital in her teens because she was pregnant with his baby!!!! Halfway through the episode last night I guessed that a pregnancy would be the secret, but I was still surprised to hear it! Now we don't know if Lily had an abortion or put the baby up for an adoption, but Dan and Serena will love knowing they may have a half-sibling somewhere out there :headache:

This season's been SO good! I loved last night's episode, when Chuck finally turned to Blair. I thought that was so sad :sad2: I didn't like Chuck all through the first season but I like him the best of the guys now. I like Dan too, but Nate's hardly ever on the show anymore. Anyway, I liked seeing that chuck actually had a heart but from the previews for the new episodes in January, it looks like he's gonna go off the deep end :scared1:

OK, sorry for taking over the thread with Gossip Girl talk!

CoP Luv ~ See I do agree with your DH, I do find Lost stressful even though I really enjoy it. And I find 24 the same too. Sometimes I just cannot be bothered to spend that much time concerntrating on it, watching a comedy like Scrubs is much easier :rotfl:.

Thats so cool you got to live in London, its a lovely city. The O2 is great now they have revamped it from the Millenium Dome, they have some really good concerts there. We saw Disney on Ice there last year and are going to watch the Blue Man Group there in February :woohoo:.

Harrod's is great, we try and visit every time we go to London. Even if we don't buy anything we love to look around all the food sections, everything looks and smells so good. And they have a Krispy Kreme place there, thats a reason to go in its self. We also love Hamley's, the giant toy store, its so much fun to visit there. Did you ever go?

We are actually going to London next week to visit Winter Wonderland with a group of friends and are probably having dinner at Rainforest Cafe, I love that place :lovestruc.

Oh and I get what you mean about Cricket. Nick loves it, he used to play all the time, and alwasy watches it on TV, but I just find it boring, and I'm English.

Curly Wurly's are good, I haven't had one for years though. If you ever want any just let me know and I will get some shipped to you. And I cannot wait to read about your honeymoon, it sounds great :thumbsup2.

The One Where The Magic Really Begins...
...Way Before We Even Get To WDW

To Make A Holiday Practically Perfect You Need To Have A Perfect Plan
Fun, Fun, Fun ~ Meets ~ A Little Help From Friends Can Go A Long Way, pt. 2

SUBJECT OF THE DAY ~ SIX:

So I thought it was time for another 'Subject of the Day'. And since I have been shopping today, trying (and failing) to get the last of my Christmas gifts, I thought this subject was perfect. And, as you may have noticed from my other reports, this is one of my favorite things to do on holiday (yes another favorite, I have many) So here is 'Subject of the Day', number 6...

:rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow:
:rainbow: :rainbow:
:rainbow:

.... SHOPPING

:rainbow:
:rainbow: :rainbow:
:rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow:

Lets just say when we go on holiday I love to shop, and probably spend a good deal of time doing so. I don't mean going to shopping outlets and malls, to be honest when I am on holiday I don't really fancy spending my precious time looking around clothes stores and the like. That being said we do allocate a little bit of time to looking around a few of the centers, mainly the malls as they are air conditioned and everything is easy to find. Mall at Millenia is my favorite as not only do they have the great Tiffany's (somewhere I do like visiting on holiday very much :lovestruc) but they have Bloomingdales and The Cheesecake Factory, a great combination. The kind of shopping I love to do on holiday is souvenir shopping, I find this so much fun. Outside of Disney and the other parks I love finding Orlando, Florida and US themed souvenirs, gifts, and things for the home. And then of course there is Walmart which sells pretty much everything. Nick loves visiting Walmart and would every day if he could (there is something about the men in my family and a strange obsession with shopping centers, my Dad is the same :upsidedow), and I love stocking up on American goodies and yet more souvenirs, bath products and anything else interesting I can find. And then there is in-park shopping. Every park we visit I have to buy a range of souvenirs, usually including shot glasses, fridge magnets, pens, plush and anything else of interest. As for Disney, this is where the real money is spent. There is something about being in Disney that makes me (and Nick at certain times), lose complete control over our spending, and before we know it we are leaving another shop $200 lighter with another bag full of plushes, pins, blankets, t.shirts, home wear, towels, and anything else that took our fancy. But after 3 visits in the last few years, and another visit to the US where copious more amounts of US souvenirs were brought, we are finding it a little harder to think of things we want to buy that we haven't already. I hear you say, "Well why don't you just stop buying things then?", but that would be no fun, would it? So here is where you guys come in again...

What is your favorite shopping center to visit?

What are your favorite American shops for *Clothes, shoes and jewelery **Homeware ***Make-up and bath stuff

What do you collect from Orlando - both Disney and non-Disney?

What are your must-buy souvenirs?

What are your favorite Disney shops?

Melissa ~ I am just watching a TV programme and looked to see what channel it was on and guess what, its Hallmark. Its called Criminal Intent, I saw a few episodes the other night when nothing else was on, and its the only thing on again. It seems the only thing on this channel for the rest of the night is this and Special Victims Unit, is that the same as over there :confused3

Have you ever been to the pet section of Harrod's? Some days I would just go and stare at the little kitties (I am cat person all the way. Dogs smell. *ahem*:snooty: ). One of my favorite things that I did in Harrod's two summers ago when we went to visit, was to get gelato in the food halls. We got lemon and mango and it was sooooooo good. Another weakness of mine...gelato.

I have been to Hamley's too! When Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban came out, there was a special HP staircase (was to the left when you walk in). Since I love HP, I had to go and see it! I also took my mom and sister when they came to visit me. We used to have such big toy stores here, but the ones in Chicago got shut down. :sad2:

I might take you up on the Curly Wurlies!!! :yay: Probably not til after Christmas though since I have been baking desserts and cookies since Saturday.

Criminal Intent is a CSI show and is on CBS over here, while SVU is a Law & Order show and is on NBC. They're rival networks so I love how they're on the same channel over there  They're not on Hallmark here... at least I don't think they are. My brother and cousin Cari LOVE SVU but I don't watch either of those. Lately Hallmark's been running Walker Texas Ranger marathons and even though Chuck Norris has reached cult-like proportions over here for being so ridiculous, I just can't watch anything he's in

Do you get Sex and the City over there? That's another one of my favorite shows ever :lovestruc If I had to pick, my top three favorite shows of all time would be Boy Meets World, Sex and the City, and Summer Heights High. I'm seriously obsessed with SHH, it cracks me up like nothing else  What would yours be? If you can't tell, I love TV way more than I should

OMG you must have been reading my mind, I was going to mention the pets and gelato before. I love the pet bit, we visit it every time we go. A couple of years ago I feel in love with some bengal abysynean (sp?) kittens they had, I wanted them so much :lovestruc. I asked Nick but they were £1000 each, and we would have to have 2 as I couldn't have just 1 (I feel it would be lonely), but then there was 3 and I couldn't leave just one (I know, I'm strange). As much as I wanted them £3000 on 3 kittens is slightly OTT, and now I have my gorgeous little ginger ones instead, and they were completely free :cloud9:.
As for the gelato, I love all the food bars and really want to go and try the pizza one, it looks like fun. We tried the gelato one last year when we went to London for Nicks birthday, its so good. But they are always so busy, its hard to get seats :sad2:

I know what you mean about the special staircases in Hamley's, we saw the Narnia one when it came out. My favorite bit is the teddies, they are all so cute. I have a million from there, Nick gets me one every time we go .

Ok so whats the difference between Law and Order and CSI then? Oh they also play Monk, and a few other crime type dramas, I'm not entirely sure what I just saw a few adverts earlier :confused3. As for the ones you mentioned that play on Hallmark over there, I'm pretty sure we don't get them. Its so confusing, we get the same channels but they play completely different shows

Yes we have has Sex and the City since it came out. It has switched channels quite a bit, I think its on Paramount comedy now. I don't watch it religiously but when its on I enjoy it. My sister loves it though, I think she wants to be Carrie

Don't worry I love TV far too much too. Oh and the net... those can't be healthy obsessions. If only I loved the gym as much :rolleyes1. My favorite shows, thats hard there is so many. It would have to be CSI (Vegas the best), Criminal Minds, Scrubs, The Gilmore Girls and Neighbours... oh and call me mad but The Girls Next Door :upsidedow. I love Friends so much, and Will and Grace, but have seen them so many times so have stopped watching them for a bit. Then theres The Closer, Without a Trace, Hollyoaks (UK teeny type soap), King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, 2 and a half Men, Diagnosis Murder, Murder She Wrote... the list goes on...

Hello there.....All this tv talk is making me crack up! :happytv: I think I told you once before that I like to watch BBC America, love Top Gear---I know you said Nick watches it too, a new season (don't know how up to date it is, we always seem to be wayyyy behind) just started last night.....my favorite of all is Doctor Who! I really have a thing for David Tennant! :lmao: :lovestruc Also like The Catherine Tate Show, Gavin and Stacy, Torchwood and You are What You Eat and How Clean is Your House just for the gross out factor!:rotfl:

And as for British movies, two of my (and my nieces/nephews) favorites is Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. We love Simon Pegg. mmmm....now I must daydream about David Tennant!
