WHAT WE PLANNED ON HAPPENING:
We really didn't have too many plans for today, except to relax and enjoy the Animal Kingdom Lodge and all of it's amenities.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED:
If you recall from last night, we had placed our room service order on our door for breakfast. When I was filling out the order form, I asked Alex what time he wanted to have breakfast delivered. He really surprised me when he said 8:15am! I figured he would say something like 10am! LOL So, I told him if he wanted breakfast that early, that was fine, but he would have to get it, not me! LOL
So, promptly at 8:15am, there was a knock on our door (we both were still in bed). Alex hopped out of bed, threw some pajama pants and a shirt on and he answered the door. I stayed in bed for just a little bit longer... LOL It felt so nice just to "sleep in."
Alex brought our tray over to the table next to the balcony doors. We opened up the curtains so we could look outside while we were eating our breakfast. I was so excited because there was a giraffe RIGHT OUTSIDE our balcony! There were also ankole cattle and some zebra. It was awesome!
Alex had ordered the Safari Breakfast - it included two eggs, any style (he had them over easy), served with breakfast potatoes, toast, and sausage. He also ordered a chocolate milk to drink. I ordered the Sunrise Continental - it included a basket full of pastries (croissants, muffins, etc.), a bowl of fruit, and coffee and orange juice. I don't drink coffee, so Alex had that, too. We had never ordered room service before, so I was so excited about this! LOL The food was hot and it was very good. We would not hesitate to do it again.
After breakfast, we decided to head down to the pool. We changed into our swimsuits, grabbed our sunscreen, and walked down to the pool. We found two lounge chairs right in front of the pool, so we dropped our stuff off there. We had forgotten our towels, so I went back up to the room and grabbed them. I met Alex back at our chairs, and then we slowly walked in the pool. The zero entry is really neat - no stairs! The water was COLD at first, but we got used to it pretty quickly. It felt good with the warm sun beating down on us. We were just so thankful that we were here and able to enjoy this. It was wonderful.
Alex started to get a little cold, so he got out of the pool and laid down on the lounge chair. I decided to stay and swim for a little while longer. The pool is a good size, and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. When I decided to get out, I asked Alex if he wanted to find the hot tubs and we could go and sit in them for a while. He agreed, so we went in search of them. (There's two.) Well, it took us FOREVER to find them! LOL The first one we found was occupied, so we figured we'd try our luck and see if the other one was empty. The second one we found WAS empty, so we hopped in. I turned the jets on and we relaxed. It felt so good. I didn't realize until later that pregnant women shouldn't use hot tubs. Oops! I only had my whole body in for about five minutes. After that, I got too hot and just put my feet in the water. Alex stayed in for twenty minutes! I couldn't believe it, because he's the kind of guy that CAN'T STAND hot showers! LOL
When Alex was ready to get out, we headed back to our lounge chairs and just laid in the sun. I must have fallen asleep for a little while. Alex woke me up and told me to turn over before I got burnt! LOL So, I rolled over, and I feel asleep again! LOL Alex woke me up a second time, this time he had a nice cold non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri for me! Yay! What a sweetie. He said he asked the bar tender if they had non-alcoholic rum runners (rum runners are my favorite drink). She said she didn't think they could do that - it would be just juice! LOL
The strawberry daiquiri tasted so good. Very refreshing. Alex had a Budweiser, which he said was good, too. How could it not be good?!?! He loves Budweiser! LOL
When we were done with our drinks, Alex decided that we probably could use a break from the sun, so we gathered our stuff and headed back up to the room. We both took quick showers to get the chlorine out of our hair and off of our skin. The shower felt nice and refreshing. We also called both sets of parents to let them know that, as far as we knew, our flight was scheduled to be on time and that we would see them tomorrow.
When we were ready, we headed out of the room and we decided to shop a little in the Zawadi Marketplace. We ended up buying Animal Kingdom Lodge T-shirts. Alex got a bright orange T-shirt (which his mom hates!) and I got a black one. We decided to change into our shirts before heading over to the Downtown Disney Marketplace. So, off we went, back to our room. We changed, and then we headed out to the bus stop and waited for the Downtown Disney bus.
The bus pulled up about a minute after we got to the bus stop (the bus service was very efficient at AKL). We rode over to the Downtown Disney Marketplace, where we were dropped off. Up until this point, most of our shopping had been "window" shopping. We needed to purchase some little gifts for our parents for watching the dog and cats and for both of our brothers because it's not fair that we don't bring them anything! LOL
We stopped in the scrapbook store first. I was not terribly impressed. I looked for the Mickey eyelets and I couldn't find them anymore, so I was disappointed about that. Oh, well. So, no purchases there.
We had already been in the Christmas store, so we passed that one, and passed the Disney at Home store, we'd been to that one already, too. We browsed around in most of the stores. We ended up finding a Mickey Nascar T-shirt in the Team Mickey store, so we purchased that for my father-in-law. He's a big nascar fan. We spent most of our money (and time!) in the World of Disney store. I just LOVE that store!! We ended up getting shot glasses for both brothers, Disney tea and a T-shirt for my mother-in-law, and a candle and some chocolates for my parents. Alex bought me a stuffed sorcerer Mickey, which I love. We also got some miscellaneous things, such as T-shirts for us, notepads, pens, etc. I also found a baby's bowl, spoon, fork, sippy cup set. It was so cute - all of the pieces said "My first Disney bowl" or "My first Disney cup." Just adorable. I was eyeing that watch that Alex had wanted earlier (with the $175 price tag!!) and I almost bought it for him, but he caught me! LOL He ended up picking out a (much cheaper!) Grumpy watch. It's nice - it has a grey leather band that says "Bad Attitude" and it has a picture of Grumpy on the watch face.
We stopped in the toy store and Alex found a stuffed bear that said "My First Disney Bear." It was adorable. So, of course, we purchased that, too, for the baby.
We actually surprised ourselves when we were done shopping much earlier than we had anticipated. Nicely done! LOL We both were thirsty, so we headed over to McDonald's and we both got a milkshake - vanilla for Alex, strawberry for me. Yummy! I hadn't had McDonalds in FOREVER! LOL
After that, we both were kind of hungry, so we decided that we would go to the Rainforest Cafe for dinner. It is one of Alex's favorite restaurants, and the closest one to our house is two hours away, so we don't go there very often. We hauled all of our bags back over to the Rainforest Cafe and put our name in with the cast member at the elephant. While we were waiting in line to put our name in, someone came over to the person in front of us and said that they were quoting a three hour wait for dinner! Yikes! Alex and I looked at each other, trying to decide if we wanted to wait that long or not. When we finally got up to the elephant podium, we gave the cast member our name and our party size and we were quoted a twenty minute wait. Much better! I think they were quoting up to three hours for larger parties. Crazy!
Since we had already looked around in the store, we decided to just sit at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. Alex got a Budweiser and I had a soda. By the time Alex was done with his beer, our table was ready. Good timing! We walked up to the cast member and she led us to our table, which was in the back of the restaurant, next to one of the aquariums. Cool! Soon after we were seated, our server came over and took our drink orders. I was all set - Alex ordered a coke. We looked at the menu and decided that we would just share an appetizer and split a pizza. For the appetizer, we ordered the coconut caribe chicken (Alex's favorite) and we just ordered a pepperoni pizza for dinner. They were both very good, as usual. No dessert for us tonight! We were full by the time we finished our dinner!
After settling our bill, we said our goodbyes to Downtown Disney and we headed for the bus stop. We sat down at a bench and waited for the Animal Kingdom Lodge bus to pull up. Shortly after we sat down (maybe ten minutes) the bus pulled up and we hopped on. We were sad that this was our last night in Walt Disney World.
Once we arrived back "home," we brought our purchases back to the room. Alex announced that it was "time to pack." I think those might possibly be the worst words he said the whole trip! LOL I HATE packing! Especially when it means that our vacation is almost over. Bummer. I packed what I could - I had a hard time, it always seems like everything doesn't fit when you're packing to go home. I mean, we bought a few things along the way, but we had brought two extra bags for that stuff, and we STILL didn't have enough room! LOL
When I was completely frustrated, Alex decided that we could finish our packing tomorrow morning. Yay! LOL We sat on the balcony for a little while just watching the animals in the "moonlight." It was just beautiful. It was so quiet, too! Alex went in the room for a minute, he said he had to go to the bathroom. Well, out he comes, back on the balcony, and he has the sorcerer mickey that I picked out. I looked at him strangely, wondering why he was bringing it outside. He said - "Look, Mickey has something to give you!" So, I looked, and attached to Mickey's hand was a small black box. I opened the box and inside was a gold necklace with a Mickey head on the chain. It matches the ring I had picked out earlier in the week. I love it, Mickey!
I decided to go and fill my refillable mug with some soda - Alex said he wanted to stop at the bar and grab a drink, so we grabbed my mug, the room keys, and Alex's wallet, and we headed over to Victoria Falls, the bar right below the lobby level. While Alex was putting in his drink order (a screwdriver), I walked down to the Mara and filled my mug with orange soda. When I came back up to Victoria Falls, Alex was sitting in a comfy chair, so I sat next to him and we just enjoyed our time together. We talked about what a great time we'd had on our vacation. We really were sad to see it end. We talked about how excited we are to be able to bring our first child back here in a couple of years.
Alex finished his drink and decided he wanted another before we left, so he ordered one more. We just sat and talked while he finished his second one, and then we decided to talk a walk around the resort. It was a beautiful night out, the perfect temperature - not too muggy, not too cold. Just gorgeous. We walked to all of the savannah viewing areas and saw some of the animals. The artificial moonlight really made it a lot easier to see all of the animals, yet it wasn't a bright light glaring in your eyes.
We stopped at "our" hot tub and we put our feet in the water. It felt so good! A few kids came by and hopped in the hot tub, too, while we were sitting there. They were good, though, not too much splashing. LOL
Alex wanted to check out the arcade, Pumbaa's, so we headed in there. We tried our luck at a few of the games, but we didn't have much luck tonight. Alex likes the challenging games, like the one where you have to get a ball to go uphill and not fall off of the side of the cliff... he likes it, but he's not too good at it! LOL
When we were done playing in the arcade, we made our way back up to our room and just hit the sack. We watched a little bit of television before falling asleep. It had been a wonderfully relaxing day. Just perfect.
