Our "Independence" trip to Ireland...to be sure!

Great start Heather :thumbsup2 Can't wait to read the rest :woohoo:

Speaking of 'Titanic moments' - you know that Titanic's last port of call was Cobh! I'm from Cork & the arrival of 'Independence' caused great excitement - hence the heavy traffic caused by people travelling to Cobh to get a look at it.

Your photos are great. :thumbsup2 The picture of the statue in Cork is of Fr. Matthew who introduced the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association to Cork. In the picture that has the Bowen sign on the right, the red-bricked building opposite is the Crawford Art Gallery which is well worth a visit, and is next to the Cork Opera House. You mentioned having gone into Pennys - this is one of the beautiful buildings in Cork that has a modern ground floor, but if you look up you'll see the original building. http://www.irish-architecture.com/buildings_ireland/cork/cork/pennys_lge.html

Great Trippie Heather! :thumbsup2 Loved all the photos too. :lovestruc What an enormous ship you were on. :scared1: Any plans on returning to it?

No plans at the moment Nancy...although we are booked on the Jewel of the Seas for next May, sailing to Russia. The ship was huge and perhaps a bit too big and a bit impersonal. But lovely all the same.

Nice gifties Heather. :thumbsup2 Ahem....my birthday is January 29th. :lmao:

Looks like you'll be joining Karen and Paige in the "Flashin Follies". :rotfl2:

29th Jan...duly noted:thumbsup2

I resisted posting a photo. Sorry Mike!;)

What a fantastic ship :)

I've been to Cobh quite a few times on business. I stayed across the river at Monkstown :)

Cobh was a lovely Irish town, lots of ice cream coloured painted houses.

Heather, Love your trip report and photos, it's nice to see what some other ships have to offer in comparison to Disney.

Are you saying that this was the maiden voyage of the Independence?

It was Rose. We got some great gifts too -

Two bright blue back packs
Two Baseball caps
Chocolates
A free photo folder
A free dvd of the trip
and a certificate acknowledging that we were on the maiden voyage.

Thanks Bunsie...now if I had known beforehand, I could'v'e got the headsup from you in advance of the trip. We had a great time...just wish we had tried one of the bars, but they were packed! Did it make you feel homesick seeing the views?

Thanks for sharing your great trip report. I liked the way you compared it to the Disney Cruises. Hubby is wanting to try one of these mini cruises, and after reading this, I would agree to going on one

Great photos, and once again thanks for sharing :thumbsup2

Really enjoying your trippie. I have only been on one cruise, but love reading about them :goodvibes
