June 14th...I had to wake my son up at 3am to be at the airport at 5:00am.
To backtrack a little Friday evening I had a feeling my son was getting sick, all he wanted to do was lay around & he complained his throat hurt. I took him into the doc's for a strep test & it was negative.

Anyway on the 14th when I woke him up I knew he was running a fever. I was going to take his temp & he got sick. So we got him cleaned him up & had to run out the door.

When we got to the airport, I retook his temp & he was running a fever of 101.4F. Of course our plane was delayed 45 mins, all my son wanted to go was sleep. I gave him some Motrin to bring down his fever (I brought two bottles with). During our wait to board the plane, my son got sick again at the airport :(

We finally board & our flight to Atlanta was pretty uneventful as my son slept the whole flight. When we did arrive in Atlanta my son was so sick, his fever had sky rocketed to 103F. (By this time I was second guessing this whole trip)
We had another delay at Atlanta for an hour. But my son just slept the whole time.

When we finally arrived in Orlando, my son looked awful. Our town car was waiting for us & I told him not to worry about the grocery store stop, just to get to the resort.

We were staying at CBR & there was a HUGE line to check in! My poor son just wanted to get in a bed & sleep, I was stressed because I was worried about him...it was not a pretty picture.

We FINALLY get into our room, I check my son's temp again & it was up to 105F (this was with Motrin in him) so I called the front desk to find out the nearest hospital because I could not get his fever down. The front desk was wonderful, they quickly sent over EMTs & they checked him over. They stayed with him until his fever was down to 102.

Afterwards, we left to the urgent care clinic & my son got another strep test, since he was still complaining his throat hurt. That one too turned out negative. So they called it a "virus"

They send us home & my son went right to sleep.
It was a VERY LOOOOOONG day for everyone! :(

How does that virus bug know to strike just before vacation? Hope your son recovered quickly. I look forward to reading about your trip

Wow, 105!

I'm glad the EMT's were able to help you.

I hope your son is feeling better.

Wow - 105 is high - he must have been gettin dehydrated... better you than me - I would never get my DD on a plane in Toronto with a fever - they are screening for SARS here - no way would they let someone on without checking them out.

Glad he got better - poor little guy.

>>^..^<<

Been there done that!!!!!! there is nothing worse when you just can not get that fever to break. It is very scary, Did they tell you to piggy back the motrin? 6 hour dose of motrin or advil. four hours later tylenol. Hope it got better!

I was worried about that, especially in Atlanta. That was when he started to LOOK sick. But they didn't say anything.
Thankfully because we would have been stuck in Atlanta!

Yes, the EMTs told me that & then again when I went to urgent care the doctor told me the same thing.

It was very scary. My son gets sick often but we have always been at home & I feel more in control, but this time being miles away from home was a total different feeling. I felt so helpless :(

We stopped telling my son when we were going away because be always seemed to get sick. This time we are leaving in 7 days and he broke a tooth. He is 21 ans still causing problems(LOL).
Even when they are grown up, they are still kids...;)

How old is your son???

He is 3.5 yrs old, he will be 4 in August.

For some reason he gets sick alot, he has had
tons of blood work done & such to try to find
out why he gets sick almost every month, all his
blood test turned out normal.
He was a very healthy baby & only started
to get sick when he turned 2.5 yrs old but
since last September he has been sick almost
every single month.

Our son is the same way.

He started getting sick all the time last year. He would get mild fever and then a terrible barking cough. It would linger for a long time and he would wake up in the middle of the night having a hard time breathing.

If he and his sister got sick at the same time she would be over it in a day or two and he would take forever for it to go away.

We finally had to have our house tested for mold. Everything came back negative. Does it come on suddenly? All of the sudden my DS just says "I don't feel well and then by that night he's sick.

Good luck and I hope he feels better soon. I probably would have been very upset. 105 fever is very high and the seizure threshold I think, I'm glad the EMT's stayed with you.

Yes, it comes on very suddenly, almost out of no where. All of a sudden he will stop eating (if his throat is sore) or just sleep alot & then wake up with a fever or a bad cough.

The fever had me very worried. His fever has never been that high before, the highest he ever had was 103, so when it got to 105 & was very worried...I know it is seizure threshold plus any higher could cause brain damage, I believe.

I am glad the EMTs stayed with us too until his fever was at a more manable level. They were very nice & wonderful.

I feel for you.

DS has been diagnosed with everything from chronic bronchitis to asthma and we still don't think that's it. Just like your son, he will be fine and then sleep or say he doesn't feel well and then he'll have a fever and a cough.

Our doctor said that if he and his sister both encounter the same bacteria or virus she will handle it and it just sets something off in him. It settles right in his airways and if it gets real bad we will have to do a breathing treatment or he'll have to get the steroids to open up his airways. All this time, he'll be running a mild fever.

I have to share this with you. We were on our way to Florida in May and were eating at a restaurant. The waitress said "Does your son have croupe(sp)? We had quite a lengthy discussion with her about sickness and breathing, croupe, etc. She said it seems to be more noticeable in boys and it usually just goes away around 9 yrs old.

We also have noticed that if he is sick when we leave for Florida his cough, etc. will stop IMMEDIATELY when we get to Florida. We don't know if this is just coincidence or if the humidity in Florida is actually good for opening up airways or something. I honestly have considered moving back to Florida in search of some relief for DS-he was never sick while we lived in Florida. We eat right, excercise and still feel like we are doing something wrong.

Good luck with your DS and tell him to stay well!!!:D :D :D

Oh I know how you feel. We eat right, exercise, we clean the house, make sure he washes his hands before eating & after playing outside or going to the bathroom & he still gets sick.

My son sickness seemed to start when he entered Preschool for the first time. Before that he was not in any day care type setting so his doctor is wondering if he is now being exposed to all these germs & his body is just trying to get use to it.

He has not been officailly dianoged with asthma but he is on asthma medicine because he has asthma like symptoms. His doctor plans on doing some asthma testing if he doesn't improve by August (his 4 year old birthday).

The Florida humidity seemed to be awful for him. Everytime we would go outside he would cough & cough & have a hard time breathing. I don't know if that was part of his 'virus' or if the air was too thick for him.
Around the second week he was fine & wasn't coughing when we went outside, so we will probably never know.

Somehow we also had lots of sicknesses occur while on vacation when my boys were smaller. On one trip we visited the Disney health center or whatever it's called (and it sure seems weird to see a mickey mouse tag on your doc!). They even had to give my poor son (who was less than two years old then) an ice water bath! to reduce his fever.

On one trip he ended up with double ear infections, conjunctivitis and roseola... even the first round of meds didn't work. Ended up sending DH and other DS home and had to extend for ten days before he was well enough to travel.

I feel for ya!
