"Our First Member Event is Coming to California"

I am assuming that we can only book one evening, so that all CA members have a crack at it. Also that it will be first come, first served on the available reservations. I'm sure Disney knows exactly how many CA members there are, and planned this accordingly. They will want all of us there at some point, as this will be a sales event for SSR, and AKV, and Member Getaways.
It wouldn't surprise me to find this event to very similar to the Welcome Home Wednesdays at BWV.
I bet that anyone could get a second or third reservation for the event after a certain period of time. They would want to fill the room, and get a second chance to sell to members.

we registered for all three days since we were told by our guide each night would be slightly different.

I got something in the mail!!!!!!:woohoo: It says: Come explore new vacation ideas at our member reception at the Disney Vacation Club Getaway Days Travel Expo. Join us as Disney Vacation Club brings our wonderful world of Member Getaways to the happiest place on earth! Our first-ever Member event in the Golden State will let you enjoy refreshments with your Disney neighbors, discover how to make the most of the magic of Membership, and learn about special offers available only for a limited time."

It then lists Sat. May 24th, Sun. May 25th and Mon. May 26th all three dates at 7pm at the Pacific Ballroom at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. It also says you must RSVP by May 19, 2008 at (it lists the website, I don't think I am able to post one on here?:confused3 ). It does say that reservations are required and space is limited.

I was at Disneyland on Wed. and I talked with a DVC rep and he said that there would be food and lots of door prizes. He also said that some of the prizes would be DVC points! He said it should be really awesome!

Anyone else get there's?

We received ours Saturday! Hubby RSVP'd yesterday - we will be there Sunday, the 25th! :cool1:

Thanks so much for being willing to share with those of us who can't be there (and/or who aren't even members yet like me.) I REALLY appreciate it.

My single number one question will be whether there will be an exclusive second round of sales to regular DVC membership. Then I'll know I need to go track down a small resale contract. Heck I might do that anyway!

Have a marvelous time!!!

Bethy, the only thing we know of so far is that those who purchased 160+ points at AKV or SSR via the DL DVC sales office will get an exclusive pre-purchase window of 30-60 days. Those who qualify received a special addendum to their contract which states they are elilgible for the 'Founding Members program for Grand California Villas'. Nothing else has been stated about a pre-purchase opportunity for the general membership.

Here are some construction photos for those who are not able attend the Member Event. They range from 04/06-04/26. Very good shots. I'm sure everyone will come back with a lot of contruction and model photos, but I thought people might want to see how things have progressed to this point.

My guide indicated that you're supposed to sign up for one night only.

Time for someone to create a poll: "Which event night did you register to attend??" using the setting for showing each responders name/handle. :rolleyes1

Sunday seems to be the popular choice--me too!

We are signed up for Sunday also, but may not go. I heard from a CM friend in MS in FLA, that they are not showing us the model room at this event.

I have little experience with DVC but I personally wouldn't be surprised if this were the case. As a sale person I wouldn't want to show the villas until we were ready or near ready to sell in order to capitalize on the surge of emotion someone would feel while viewing the models. So if sales really aren't likely to start until the end of the year that's a lot of downtime in between for potential buyers to come to their senses. And also a long time for people to opt to hold off on buying at SSR and AKV and wait for GCV.

Today a friend of mine tried to register for Saturday and it was already full. I guess it is filling up fast!

I just wanted to add that I have been getting a lot of PM's from people wanting the website to register. I have no problem sharing it but according to Disney, this event for whatever reason is for CA, NV, and AZ DVC members(at least this is what MS and my guide has told me). It is an invite only event. I feel uncomfortable giving the registration website to those who don't live in these states as there may be a reason only people in these states were invited.:confused3 I wish it was for everyone and I realize some people really have no idea when asking me for the website. I think it's awesome that people as far away as Canada want to attend! Maybe contact your vacation guide if you don't live here and they may be able to help. Thanks and please understand!;)

i tried for sunday, but it kept giving me an error saying the max. amount of guest allowed is 0. so it looks like sun is full too and i'm going on monday. :woohoo:

The reason my friend waited so long to register was he didn't look at the invite very closely, and wasn't aware he needed to register. I wonder how many people are going to show up without having registered?

My guess would be quite a few. It will be interesting to see what will happen, the registration form tells you to bring it to the event. I wonder if they will let anyone in without it?

when I tried to register for the event for May 25 on Tuesday, May 13, I couldn't get through. I Was able to get in on Monday. May 26. Not the best day, but I'll take it.

I called my guide to find out what I could do it get in on Sunday. Guide was on vacation so instead left a message for her back up. He called me back the next day and told me he knew very little about what will be going on.

Now, I just got a call from him about 4:30 pm Pacific Time. He said that they were opening up anther day for Friday. May 23. Ask me to go on line to register and then cancel for Monday. I went to the website, but it is not open up yet for Friday, May 23 and all other days are sold out. He told me they were just bringing it on line. Hopefully, I can get to go on Friday the 23th. We will see.
