Our 14 year old border collie who doesn't hear or see as well as he used to was pounced on by our 9 week old kitten as he walked toward me on the couch. I only saw movement out of the corner of my eye, heard him growl and grab, and then the kitten is convulsing on the floor. Our dog was startled and just reacted by throwing her to the floor. I raced her to the vet but there was nothing anyone could do.
I'm a mess. The vet assistants were so nice, and cleaned her up so that when my kids get home this afternoon they can say goodbye. DH came home to dig a hole in our really hard ground, God bless him. And I'm just replaying the whole thing over and over in my head.
DD, 8, is going over to her friend's house straight from school. I thought about getting her instead, but keep thinking I should let her have a good afternoon before having to say goodbye to her kitten.
Anyway, having just spent the last four hours in a fog, crying and staring at the wall, I thought I would share just to get it off my chest and see if anyone had any words of wisdom.
Thanks for listening.
