We went downstairs around 7:50 to check in for Boma. There was quite a line to check in and the waiting area was crawling with people. Hello dont you guys know there is a bar only a few steps up? They all looked like they could use a drink! I asked the hostess how long of a wait and she said about fifteen minutes for those with an ADR, I didnt bother to ask about those without. We hightailed it up to Victoria Falls to relax and get our drink on. The bar and seating area were not busy at all and also gave you that warm and relaxed inviting feeling. This was actually the first time I have ever experienced human life at this bar. Bar keep Kevin welcomed us after what seemed like an eternity and took our order. Charming got a Rum and Coke and I ordered a Peach Cosmo. It was at this point Samantha starts acting like she doesnt feel well. She is looking very tired and now complaining of her throat hurting. She half lays on me and the bar stool and rests. Great. Where is that drink?
Our drinks finally come and now Im no Georgia gal but I sure know what a peach tastes like and there was certainly no peach flavor whatsoever in this drink. It was peach color but definitely not peach flavor. Dont worry, I still drank it. We finished up and got the check $13.64 after the DDE discount. The Cosmo was $10, the rum and coke $6.00 $3.20 was the discount they taxed on the discount amount which surprised me. With tip our evening spending spree starts off at $17.
Sorry for the devil eyes here...I have a hard time getting my baby blues to actually turn out. I really am not related.
Charming with the go go Gadget arm...look at Samantha - she looks like she had some of my Peach Cosmo.
As we head downstairs Samantha is delighted with all the gold doubloons that are in the creek. So enthralled that we have to spend several of our own to add to the pirate treasure. (everything relates to pirates, Disney or money with her) We find a space on the bench and are now seated in front of the water.
I decide to go see how much further back we are, not to be annoying but to see if another visit to Victoria Falls is warranted. As luck would have it our pager goes off as I make it to the front of the stand. I flag the Royal Family down to hurry up its our turn. A lovely young girl from Cape Town seats us and we talk about South Africa briefly before she leaves us. We have a table that on one side butts up to a tree so there is a circular booth surrounding the tree. Make sense? Well Samantha got that side, laid down and was asleep in a matter of minutes.
Look how she crosses her feet...both her and Charming do that!
Ugh oh, I knew we were in trouble now. She had a fever. Luckily I have a complete doctors office in the room sans nurses outfit.
Abe was our server and it took him forever to get our drink order. Charming had Coke, I had water, Haley had milk and I ordered Samantha a Sprite. It took just as long to get our drinks as it did to order them. Charming went to the pods first and came back with a smackeral of everything.
It was then my turn. The pods were busy! The dessert line was packed. Mix in all the people window-shopping and it was chaos! I tried the African Spiced Steak, prime rib, Curried Coconut Seafood Stew, a bean concoction and chicken tenders and fries for the girls.
Haley had a field day with Charmings prime rib. My girls love their food! I actually loved everything on my plate. Charming was ready to go back by the time I got back to the table. He informed the prime rib woman that she and he were going to become very good friends tonight, upon hearing that she opted to give him multiple pieces thank goodness. I went back for a different soup, more prime rib and more beans. Oh no, the beans had been replaced with some couscous. They informed me they would be ready in 15 minutes. Darn.
Charming is back and forth and in the meantime I order the Wine Flight. Upon waiting for its arrival I decide to hit the dessert section for some paw prints, zebra domes and cheesecakes.
Samantha is still asleep at this point and I hate for her to be sick but it was a rather peaceful meal and you could tell Haley did not miss her one ounce. She was started to rouse a bit and woke up enough to drink some sprite and have a chocolate chip cookie that Daddy had gotten off the dessert pod for her.
Abe was not very good at filling up our drinks at all and finally came out with my wine flight place mat and the three wines.
Starting from left to right...the first was Beyond Sauvignon Blanc - "This light crisp wine willbe beyond your expectations. This wine is mouth watering, full bodied with fragrances of green apples, peaches and grapefruits." They were right. This was a very light sauvignon blanc and I really enjoyed it. Would definitely order it again. The second was the Delheim Gewurztraminer - "Renowned for tis intense aromatics; scents of rose petals and cinnamon are common traits. This is a world class Gewurztraminer with full flavored texture." Oh, I took one big sip, almost puked and gave it to Charming, it was horrible. Very horrible. The third was Raats Original Chenin Blanc - Pale yellow with green flecks. Peach, pineapple, golden delicious apples flavor with crisp acidity and a lingering finish." I enjoyed this one the best of the three. It had an almost reisling taste to it. I was tempted to order another glass. Not having done a "wine flight" at the World I was surprised to see they were good sized "pours" as compared to other establishments.
The last time at the pods I had asked for the soup recipies. They told me to ask my server for a "request form". I filled it out and upon returning home both soup recipes were emailed to me. I'll post later for those who are interested. Finally Abe appeared again and I asked for the check. He said "You're on the dining plan right?" and "She (pointing to my angelic Samantha) didn't eat anything right?" - first, nothing against dining planners...but I didn't appreciate the way and tone he asked in. As soon as I said no, he then turned to comment on Princess Haley, how beautiful she was and how well behaved she was. Sorry Abe - too little too late. We saw this guy maybe three times and that was pushing it. For 2 adult dinners with a wine flight total with tax after DDE discount was $53.02 (before DDE and tax $62.23). We made it an even $60.00 simply because I was not happy at all with the service. Not once did we get refills or even asked if we wanted more. That is a low tip but both Charming and I felt it was warranted.
Aside from the service we will be back, hopefully it will not be as busy. When we dined the last time it was nice and quiet, no waiting and service was good. It is now I think we see the dining plan coming into play at the table service restaurants as far as filling them up.
As we left the restaurant they were dancing, singing and playing drums in the lobby. Absolutely my girls' forte - I mean, anything with noise!! We stopped to enjoy the sounds and dance a little.
After dancing and singing our hearts out we wanted to check more of the resort out. As we left Charming asked if Jiko was expensive and I asked why, he said look its empty while Boma is packed. Could be one reason .We walked around by the pool and over to the fitness center to check it out and see what times it was open. Guess what ran in front of our path you guessed it a RAT! What is it with us and rats? And I never realized how prevelant they are at Disney! As we walked around the lodge we noticed rat traps everywhere in the bushes. Kind of freaky if you ask me. Yuck!
We found both hot tubs, which were full by the way and made it over to the night vision. The goggles were kind of being hogged so we didnt stay very long at all before heading back to the room. I got everyone ready for bed, gave Samantha some Motrin and put everyone including Charming down. It was just about 10 pm and all three fell asleep almost immediately. I used the ever so wonderful quiet time to take a hot bath, read a gossipy magazine, lay out all our clothes for tomorrow, schedule our wake up call and hang out on the balcony for a few minutes. I was in bed around midnight to 12:30. What a wonderful end to a great evening.
Or so I thought.
I am not one to fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. It usually takes me 20 minutes to fall asleep. I had probably been asleep for 10 minutes when I was awakend by Samantha crying. Her tummy hurt. I went to pick her up and in that instant she threw up. Luckily it missed the bed and only made it onto the floor. I scooped her up and carted her to the bathroom. Now she hadnt eaten anything but that cookie and a Sprite since her lunch at school. None of the rest of us got sick so I am not sure what happened. She threw up a few more times those all made it in the toilet but was water and dry heaves for the most part and then was asleep again. I managed to get some more Motrin down her, she still had a fever and also a few sips of water. Charming and Haley managed to sleep through all of this.
So now its almost 2am before I am snuggling under the covers. But now I am worrying. Worrying what the heck could be wrong with Samantha, what will we do tomorrow ..ah, the joys of being a woman and a mother.
