Our 2006 Disney Adventures ~ NEW, 1/20 pg 13!

We went downstairs around 7:50 to check in for Boma. There was quite a line to check in and the waiting area was crawling with people. Hello – don’t you guys know there is a bar only a few steps up? They all looked like they could use a drink! I asked the hostess how long of a wait and she said about fifteen minutes for those with an ADR, I didn’t bother to ask about those without. We hightailed it up to Victoria Falls to relax and get our drink on. The bar and seating area were not busy at all and also gave you that warm and relaxed inviting feeling. This was actually the first time I have ever experienced human life at this bar. Bar keep Kevin welcomed us after what seemed like an eternity and took our order. Charming got a Rum and Coke and I ordered a Peach Cosmo. It was at this point Samantha starts acting like she doesn’t feel well. She is looking very tired and now complaining of her throat hurting. She half lays on me and the bar stool and rests. Great. Where is that drink?

Our drinks finally come and now I’m no Georgia gal but I sure know what a peach tastes like and there was certainly no peach flavor whatsoever in this drink. It was peach color but definitely not peach flavor. Don’t worry, I still drank it. We finished up and got the check $13.64 after the DDE discount. The Cosmo was $10, the rum and coke $6.00 $3.20 was the discount – they taxed on the discount amount which surprised me. With tip our evening spending spree starts off at $17.

Sorry for the devil eyes here...I have a hard time getting my baby blues to actually turn out. I really am not related.

IMG_1567.jpg

IMG_1566.jpg

Charming with the go go Gadget arm...look at Samantha - she looks like she had some of my Peach Cosmo.

As we head downstairs Samantha is delighted with all the gold doubloons that are in the creek. So enthralled that we have to spend several of our own to add to the pirate treasure. (everything relates to pirates, Disney or money with her) We find a space on the bench and are now seated in front of the water.

IMG_1570.jpg

I decide to go see how much further back we are, not to be annoying but to see if another visit to Victoria Falls is warranted. As luck would have it our pager goes off as I make it to the front of the stand. I flag the Royal Family down to hurry up it’s our turn. A lovely young girl from Cape Town seats us and we talk about South Africa briefly before she leaves us. We have a table that on one side butts up to a tree so there is a circular booth surrounding the tree. Make sense? Well Samantha got that side, laid down and was asleep in a matter of minutes.

IMG_1582.jpg

Look how she crosses her feet...both her and Charming do that!

Ugh oh, I knew we were in trouble now. She had a fever. Luckily I have a complete doctor’s office in the room sans nurses outfit.

Abe was our server and it took him forever to get our drink order. Charming had Coke, I had water, Haley had milk and I ordered Samantha a Sprite. It took just as long to get our drinks as it did to order them. Charming went to the pods first and came back with a smackeral of everything.

IMG_1575.jpg

It was then my turn. The pods were busy! The dessert line was packed. Mix in all the people window-shopping and it was chaos! I tried the African Spiced Steak, prime rib, Curried Coconut Seafood Stew, a bean concoction and chicken tenders and fries for the girls.

IMG_1574.jpg

IMG_1573.jpg

Haley had a field day with Charming’s prime rib. My girls love their food! I actually loved everything on my plate. Charming was ready to go back by the time I got back to the table. He informed the prime rib woman that “she and he were going to become very good friends tonight”, upon hearing that she opted to give him multiple pieces thank goodness. I went back for a different soup, more prime rib and more beans. Oh no, the beans had been replaced with some couscous. They informed me they would be ready in 15 minutes. Darn.

IMG_1577.jpg

Charming is back and forth and in the meantime I order the Wine Flight. Upon waiting for its arrival I decide to hit the dessert section for some paw prints, zebra domes and cheesecakes.

IMG_1581.jpg

Samantha is still asleep at this point and I hate for her to be sick but it was a rather peaceful meal and you could tell Haley did not miss her one ounce. She was started to rouse a bit and woke up enough to drink some sprite and have a chocolate chip cookie that Daddy had gotten off the dessert pod for her.

IMG_1579.jpg

Abe was not very good at filling up our drinks at all and finally came out with my wine flight place mat and the three wines.

IMG_1578.jpg

Starting from left to right...the first was Beyond Sauvignon Blanc - "This light crisp wine willbe beyond your expectations. This wine is mouth watering, full bodied with fragrances of green apples, peaches and grapefruits." They were right. This was a very light sauvignon blanc and I really enjoyed it. Would definitely order it again. The second was the Delheim Gewurztraminer - "Renowned for tis intense aromatics; scents of rose petals and cinnamon are common traits. This is a world class Gewurztraminer with full flavored texture." Oh, I took one big sip, almost puked and gave it to Charming, it was horrible. Very horrible. The third was Raats Original Chenin Blanc - Pale yellow with green flecks. Peach, pineapple, golden delicious apples flavor with crisp acidity and a lingering finish." I enjoyed this one the best of the three. It had an almost reisling taste to it. I was tempted to order another glass. Not having done a "wine flight" at the World I was surprised to see they were good sized "pours" as compared to other establishments.

The last time at the pods I had asked for the soup recipies. They told me to ask my server for a "request form". I filled it out and upon returning home both soup recipes were emailed to me. I'll post later for those who are interested. Finally Abe appeared again and I asked for the check. He said "You're on the dining plan right?" and "She (pointing to my angelic Samantha) didn't eat anything right?" - first, nothing against dining planners...but I didn't appreciate the way and tone he asked in. As soon as I said no, he then turned to comment on Princess Haley, how beautiful she was and how well behaved she was. Sorry Abe - too little too late. We saw this guy maybe three times and that was pushing it. For 2 adult dinners with a wine flight total with tax after DDE discount was $53.02 (before DDE and tax $62.23). We made it an even $60.00 simply because I was not happy at all with the service. Not once did we get refills or even asked if we wanted more. That is a low tip but both Charming and I felt it was warranted.

Aside from the service we will be back, hopefully it will not be as busy. When we dined the last time it was nice and quiet, no waiting and service was good. It is now I think we see the dining plan coming into play at the table service restaurants as far as filling them up.

As we left the restaurant they were dancing, singing and playing drums in the lobby. Absolutely my girls' forte - I mean, anything with noise!! We stopped to enjoy the sounds and dance a little.

IMG_1589.jpg

After dancing and singing our hearts out we wanted to check more of the resort out. As we left Charming asked if Jiko was expensive and I asked why, he said look – it’s empty while Boma is packed. Could be one reason….We walked around by the pool and over to the fitness center to check it out and see what times it was open. Guess what ran in front of our path – you guessed it – a RAT! What is it with us and rats? And I never realized how prevelant they are at Disney! As we walked around the lodge we noticed rat traps everywhere in the bushes. Kind of freaky if you ask me. Yuck!

We found both hot tubs, which were full by the way and made it over to the night vision. The goggles were kind of being hogged so we didn’t stay very long at all before heading back to the room. I got everyone ready for bed, gave Samantha some Motrin and put everyone including Charming down. It was just about 10 pm and all three fell asleep almost immediately. I used the ever so wonderful quiet time to take a hot bath, read a gossipy magazine, lay out all our clothes for tomorrow, schedule our wake up call and hang out on the balcony for a few minutes. I was in bed around midnight to 12:30. What a wonderful end to a great evening.

Or so I thought.

I am not one to fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. It usually takes me 20 minutes to fall asleep. I had probably been asleep for 10 minutes when I was awakend by Samantha crying. Her tummy hurt. I went to pick her up and in that instant she threw up. Luckily it missed the bed and only made it onto the floor. I scooped her up and carted her to the bathroom. Now she hadn’t eaten anything but that cookie and a Sprite since her lunch at school. None of the rest of us got sick so I am not sure what happened. She threw up a few more times – those all made it in the toilet but was water and dry heaves for the most part – and then was asleep again. I managed to get some more Motrin down her, she still had a fever and also a few sips of water. Charming and Haley managed to sleep through all of this.

So now it’s almost 2am before I am snuggling under the covers. But now I am worrying. Worrying what the heck could be wrong with Samantha, what will we do tomorrow…..ah, the joys of being a woman and a mother.

Aw, poor Samantha. I hope she was okay the rest of the trip. It sure stinks when our little ones are sick and stinks even more when they are sick while on vacation. :(

Loving the trip report!

God, what a crappy day I had, and it was so great to find a glass of wine and kick back with your nice looong trip report, complete with pics! Your girls are the cutest things ever, but poor Samantha. Sick kids are rough enough at home, but 10 times tougher on vacation... Poor little lovey.

I knew there was a reason I liked you. :rotfl: I get the comments about Pierce Brosnan (mah baby) and Tom Cruise (man, what happened, bro!), but can't comment on Pierce without being <censored>.

You look gorgeous is your leopard-y Boma scarf :) I think you've convinced me to make a trip over to AKL for dinner one night this August.

Can't wait for the next installments. Lovin' your TR.

I just love reading your trip reports! Hoping your little darling felt better so she could enjoy the trip. They are absolutely beautiful.

I'm thinking strep.... poor Samantha- and poor you.

Oh my! I know exactly how you feel. Our last trip my DD got sick all of a sudden with a fever and vomiting. Unfortunately it lasted most of our trip so we weren't able to do too much with her. On the bright side we are going back this Aug so she can relive the magic w/out being sick.
Your girls are sooo cute! Thanks so much for the trip report and pics!

Hope that Samatha feels better the rest of the trip. I'm really enjoying your reports. You have a great way of telling stories. I get the same deal with my coworkers about Disney. It seems that some people just don't get it. I was started early with my parents and went every year since I was born so Disney has a very special feeling to me since so many of my childhood memories are there. I loved your story about going to EPCOT after your grandfather passed away. There are many of us that feel Disney is much more than just a theme park.

Thank you for sharing the beautiful memories of "Why" you go. How lucky you were!
We have only been to WDW twice and before the last trip we dreamed that our next BIG trip would be to Ireland and or Germany(note we have two kids 2 & 8). But while we were at WDW we realized the heck with going anywhere else ever! Its going to be WDW for us for now on- it really is the best vacation ever.

Keep posting- Thanks for sharing. And of course those girls are gorgeous!

Thank you again and your family for sharing the wonderful wishes cruise.. We had a great time and are excited to read the rest of your trip report.. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your vacation... thanks again Justin :cool1:

Hi Justin!

We also enjoyed it! Can't wait to do another. Hopefully your girlfriend fell in love with Disney! and what a lucky gal she is - she's got a man who knows the ins and outs of WDW!!! ;)

Well, I'm working on the next installment but as DD is watching Peter Pan for the millionth time I am also working on DH.......trying to get a day trip in tomorrow.....;)

V -- Love the reports!! Have you done some for your DCL trips? I'll need to find them as I'm sure they are as enjoyable as these. You are going to LOVE the double dip cruise. We went on the Thanksgiving 2004 cruise, which was a double dip. It was fabu!! Nothing better than Castaway Cay -- it's our favorite place. For our spring break trip (we're 30+ but who says you ever outgrow the need for spring break?!), we made our own double dip. We went on two 3-night DCL trips back to back, with a few days at WDW in between. 3-nights just wasn't enough, so we booked again for the following week impromptu!! The CMs thought we were nuts, but we had a blast!

Your girls are precious! DBF and I are predicting our someday child will have red hair (his hair was red as a child, my grandmother's hair was red, and my blonde hair can get red when highlighted). If so, I hope my child's hair is as pretty as yours and your DDs'.

I noticed in the photos from your last last two trips that Charming wore something other than orange and blue. What's up with that? Could those be early Father's Day gifts from you and the girls? JK!! I can't get DBF to wear anything other than Disney or NASCAR polos or t-shirts.

Thanks for the great reports! Keep them coming!!

Jennifer

Where have you been? Were you able to get to the World for Memorial Day? Do tell, do tell!!!

Welcome back once again, hope hayley takes a turn for the better,
Claire xx

Glad your back and reporting again!

I'm sorry you didn't go to the Poly though...for selfish reasons of course. I wanted to read about it. :thumbsup2

Are the rooms at AKL the same size as at WL? We totally didn't like WL, partly because of the small rooms, mostly other reasons that are gonna be in my TR. Course we went to the Poly for 3 nights and then the WL and the rooms at the Poly are HUGE, so it was a let down...guess I'm a Poly snob now. :teeth: Course this Poly snob has to go to POR for 10 days...10 days at the Poly would be....whoa...I'd have to get a job. Anyway, I'm rambling...

Can't wait to hear more...hope Samantha got better. Being sick on vacation would be the worst.

MommyPoppins, to answer your question....once you've been in the Poly rooms nothing really compares....our room was a bunk room so it seemed larger than what we had at WL...I haven't checked square footage but I would bet they are roughly the same.
Now our GV at the Poly - 2 queens and a daybed along with crib there was still plenty of room for all kinds of Bad Girl mischief. Those rooms are just big compared to the others....

Between two evils, I always pick the one I’ve never tried before. ~ Mae West

So where were we? Ahhh, yes. Bad Girl extraordinaire had a wonderfully romantic evening on the bottom bunk while sickie Samantha snuggled with Daddy in the larger queen bed and Haley snoozed in the pack and play between the queen and the sliding glass door. Lovely. Just an example of the sacrifices a mother makes. I had been up and down all night worrying about Samantha. Luckily after the one episode she slept pretty hard the rest of the night. I was awake before Stitch called me personally to wish me a wonderful day in the World. I did what I do….went ahead and got ready before anyone stirs – this was about quarter to 7. Yes – I wanted to be at park opening. I had a plan, I had an itinerary. I even printed them out daily on colored paper. Different colors depending on the day. I had spent countless hours daily revising, adding to and just generally agonizing over what we were going to do when and more importantly, where we were going to eat. And now this. Sickness was not part of the plan. Yes I brought an RX supply that would rival any peds office but there were no sick provisions. NONE Royal family!

I finished getting ready, put on the pot (coffee) and got Charming and Haley up while Samantha still slept. For breakfast we had an in room assortment of bagels, mini muffins, fruit and applesauce. We went back and forth on the balcony eating and sucking down coffee…when Charming did. I still maintain that coffee is for grown ups – which I try to avoid at all costs. I mean, I am responsible – I pay bills, work, take care of my girls and Charming but no where in my Bad Girl handbook does it say to concede and fully grow up! Now I had the pleasure of waking sickie. She had no fever but at this point I think she was beyond tired. All three of us well ones were ready. Now even under normal conditions…ie…school days….waking Samantha is about as fun as rousing a giant bear in the midst of its hibernation. She didn’t want to get up. After much prodding I convinced her we were going to MGM and that she could lay in the back of the stroller – which is a treat to her anyway since normally Haley is in the back. Further bribing included giving her a Disney Princess sticker box full with over 100 Princess stickers and a sticker book. I am willing to bet mousekeeping loved that! (this was one of the bag full of treats I brought with us)

Finally we were down at the valet around 8:30 – pretty good I thought. Here’s Haley on the bench….see my blue paper….that is the day’s itinerary!

IMG_1592.jpg

I don’t know what happened to the valet guy but OMG he took forever to get the car. Aren’t they supposed to RUN? I think this guy went out for coffee and donuts and then went for the car. Finally we are on our way. After an uneventful few minutes we arrive at MGM and I am doing my frantic search of the parking lot. We are kind of far back but not far enough to warrant a tram ride thank goodness. I hate those suckers. Got the girls loaded….and we’re off!

Now my original plan called for us being at MGM upon opening which was 9 am this day….we got there at the bag check right about 9. Last year the Storm Troopers greeted us, I know SW weekend didn’t start today but they were early last year. Not that I give a lick about SWW – unless of course my boy Harrison will be there. I have yet to see any of the new movies. I am an Ewok, Chewie, Luke and Darth kind of gal. Harrison is kind of bad though isn’t he? The whole Calista thing? Well, it happens doesn’t it? As Forest says anyway.

So wanna be a police officer settle for a bag searcher at WDW rifled through my bag and sent us on our way. We put the tickets in and BAM~ we made it.
IMG_1593.jpg

Now one observation I did note….at every park we went to this trip, everyone and their third cousin had the same idea as we did. I truly think more and more people are researching their vacations. Sucks for me. But hey, as much as I wanted to be commando at least through lunch on a daily basis it just so isn’t us! I don’t like sweating in between rides…you know, from running to one or the other. Just so isn’t us. Really!

It’s at this point that I realize 5 different autograph books, 12 “fat character friendly, approved by former character CM sis” pens are all back in our pool view upgraded room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Great. So yes, I stop at Main Entrance Cart and buy the MM autograph pen and book….total $11.61 – no DDE here. Ok, so we are set. Luckily I remembered diapers – wouldn’t want to be purchasing those!

Anyway we head over to TOT and RNRC. Now something I haven’t mentioned, Charming has been complaining of chest pain recently, went to the Dr. nothing found but I do not think he should ride TOT and he agrees – good, we skip it although I love love love that ride. So RNRC it is.
IMG_1594.jpg

He lets me go first!! I get a child swap and then Charming gets a fast pass while I am going. Not too many people in line but there is something about being s “single rider”. The CM asks how many and I said one, she yells SINGLE RIDER – why do I feel compelled to yell BABY SWAP RIDER HERE…really I HAVE A CHARMING outside. But no, I go over it in my head and realize I am woman, I can be a single rider and love it. Now last time I went single rider I was paired with a 9 year old boy who informed me not to worry he wouldn’t puke on me. Nice. This time I was totally alone!! GREAT! No one wanted to ride with me!! What a loser! Well, whatever I could scream all I wanted and not worry about it! I am in and out in about 12 minutes. Now I don’t know about you but I LOVE Aerosmith and I totally love the ride – the music makes it for me. Personally I could hang out by the guitar all day just rockin’ out to the tunes. I am a rocker. Van Halen is my all time favorite but Aerosmith is right up there. Now don’t get me wrong I also love country, classical, jazz, pop and just about everything even rap. I thank my performing arts high school dance instructors for my appreciation and love of all music. But my heart will always be with rock…and come on – Aerosmith is classic, I mean it’s from my parents era!

So I leave without looking at my picture and not a glance in the store for Charming to hurry and ride – we’ve got plans remember….he goes and I take the girls to buy a $2.00 water from Teens and Tweens….with a name like that now I realize why they don’t sell any beer. Total was exactly $2.00. There is a restroom right there and I took the girls, struggled to get in and nope no one has to go. Struggle to get out and rock out waiting for Charming. He comes back and we now have to book it to Playhouse Disney for the first show. Now according to all the different touring plans…you could do TOT and RNRC before hitting a show providing you don’t have to do baby swap. For us there was no time to use the swap pass before hitting the first show so we both rode RNRC once before Playhouse Disney.

We head over to PHD….big line….roped in line with no strollers allowed. Crap. So we get in line and I am thinking we are so not getting in, there are way too many people in this line. Samantha is doing well and Haley wants to walk….there was a little girl behind us who was enthralled with Haley and keeps touching her and tugging on her, luckily we are let in….we make it!! Charming has a hard time getting down on the floor – remember he is only a month or so off knee surgery…we get down and get set for the show. We went against the rules. Ok, Charming went against the rules and took some pictures. Not too many turned out.
IMG_1598.jpg

During the show they asked for everyone to jump up….Samantha jumped up and poor thing her skirt fell to her feet! Everyone behind us was laughing, Charming and I were tearing up we were laughing so hard and luckily Samantha laughed too. Notice in pics she is over half my height at three and super skinny. This kid has always been off the chart for height and 25% or less for weight. LUCKY GAL….Haley will be a me….. so we pull up the brand new size 4t Gymboree skirt and fold over the waistband….new moms – take note Gymbo clothes run big – Haley still fits in 6-12m Gymbo stuff! And Samantha keeps dancing. I think she is feeling much better. Cute show, even for sitting on the floor but all the characters are puppets and come out of the floor so its pretty hard to see – I think they could easily use costumes and people for this but hey that would cost more. We leave a tad early to beat the rush out. My plan was for Little Mermaid but we went to the Magic of Disney Animation.

Line there…honestly I wanted Chicken Little’s autograph and that was it. We finally – after a 10 minute wait got inside. Eddie Murphy as Mushu was quite funny “back away from me poultry” stands out but right at the funny parts Samantha needs to go potty. What is with kids and the potty? When we ask you don’t have to go, when we force you, you let out one drop and then when we – the parents are having fun – a flood threatens! So I grab them and run out the automatically opening and closing doors….and wow! We are where the characters come! But it will be the Incredibles today no CL….now I need their auto’s but weighing the potty issue against a Mr Incredible when I have THE MI – we hightail it to the potty. Whew – made it…after the potty it’s pretty much almost 11 am. We’ve been here two hours and not even accomplished much. WOW – our lunch is scheduled for Sci-Fi at 11:25am, we decide to head on over.

Have you been to MGM? Do you know what is across from Sci – Fi? Yep – sully and Mike, or is it Mike and Sully? Or Monsters Inc? Anyway I am happy to say we are first in line – that’s right DIS’ers….FIRST! But it’s now 11 and the sign says 11 and no garage door is opening. Did Mike and Sully go partying last night? I can see the attraction, I mean after a few buckets at PI one big eyeball could be quite the turn on.
IMG_1608.jpg

Finally they come out….Haley is wicked scared of the eyeball, I mean shaking. But we get the picture.
IMG_1610.jpg

We immediately go to Sci-Fi to check in. NO ONE is in there…it is awesome…all the CM’s make a HUGE fuss over the girls. Not one or two BUT EVERYONE. They even brought CM’s out to see them, nice touch! We were seated immediately, in a car. We got a high chair but get this – they had no trays – the table next to us had a family that filled up the entire car and a high chair with a tray.

Don’t get me wrong, I have often thought of stuffing the silverware, nice plates at CRT or other goodies in my bag – but a high chair tray? What gives? No matter, we are go with the flow kind of peeps. So Samantha and I were in front Charming in the second seat and Haley was stuck tray less in the aisle. Fist things first – are we on the dining plan? NO WE AREN’T - do they HAVE to ask that? Now I know what the unpopular kids felt like. Our waiter was Jorge – he was really cool….took our drink order, me – what else – Buena Vista Chardonnay, Samantha – Sprite, Charming – Coke, and Haley a milk.

We were a very back car – not one we’ve ever been before but it was fine, great view and being there when they open is awesome. Fast everything. Jorge brought out Saltines for Haley and out drinks – what a thoughtful man!

We ordered, Samantha – chicken nuggets
IMG_1620.jpg

Charming – the Reuben Sandwich
IMG_1621.jpg

and me the chili appetizer.
IMG_1618.jpg

Haley would share. I was a tad concerned about Samantha eating and drinking and her tummy – but she was fine, so fine, she was making art with her food.
IMG_1622.jpg

see the Mickey head?
We sat enjoying Tom and Jerry and sipping our drinks. I don’t remember Tom and Jerry being so violent…they rival Itchy and Scratchy on the Simpson’s. Do I worry about my girls watching this? Um, no – I watched Tom and Jerry growing up and I am no Hillside Strangler or anything.
Now I notice the people next to us – they are obviously on the dining plan unless of course Gma, Gdad, Mom, Dad and baby always order an appetizer a piece. There is NO room for all their food in their car.
IMG_1611.jpg

IMG_1617.jpg

Our waiter presents Samantha, me and Haley with Sci-Fi driver’s licenses!! So cool! Now, the food. Charming thought it was ok for a sandwich and fries. Samantha had more fun playing that eating and I thought the chili was great. Could be the heat and alcohol but I really enjoyed it and it was a perfect amount. Now our bill….this HAS to be a mistake! We’ve never spent less than at least $60 on lunch and a million on dinner. The bill was $27.36 after the DDE (tip not included)….I still have a hard time believing this one. Overall, we would definitely come back here. The atmosphere rocks, the food not so much but hey – unless you are at a signature restaurant the food is about the same. The girls loved it and it was a first that Samantha wasn’t climbing in between the seats….another tip for new moms – Sci-Fi – kids in high chairs and almost 4 rock! Last time Samantha was just three and wanted to climb over and back a million times. ANNOYING.

After lunch well, we didn’t do much – wander around and got to see CARS!!!!!! Highlight the day Samantha thought it was just for her!!!!
