Ouija boards...

My sister got one for Christmas one year and we took it to a slumber party. One of our mutual friends asked it when she was going to die and it told her she'd die at the age of 15. A few years later, when she turned 15, she was hit by a train and killed.

Coincidence? Maybe. I just know I never ever touched that thing again. They still kind of freak me out.

I find it interesting that there are so many 'authorities' on this thread. People completely dismissing the use of a ouija but at the same token, have never tried one.

All I'm saying is don't be so quick to dismiss something you've never even tried.

So did your parents throw out your Magic 8 ball too for predicting the truth.

Ouija -- just a game, no big deal. It really doesn't move by itself.

If we would have had a Magic 8 ball, I'm sure my mother wouldn't like that either! She was and is very religious. Someone told her at church that the ouija board was evil and that was all she needed to hear. Goodbye ouija board!

Just wanted to add: In my Mom's defense, she now laughs at her whole "fear of Kiss" phase. Why do we fear somethings -- like screaming men in make-up or games made of cardboard and plastic?

A Ouija board is a game, made in the same factory as Monopoly and Scrabble. If "evil spirits" lived in the Ouija games seems like they would go visit the other games in the factory just to shake things up a little!

Hi luvsJack (love your avatar btw :lovestruc ) ,

I just wanted to point out that, when you're playing monopoly or scrabble you aren't usually trying to channel spirits. Who knows, if you used those boards for the same thing as a Ouija, you might get the same results as a ouija too. :scared1: I'm just saying that it's not so much the board, it's the intent.

i dont know when i play scrabble i am constantly praying to the tile gods and sometimes i feel they are leading my hand in the right direction. for example, i needed a "z" to from zaxes, on a triple letter score, triple word score. game over, eerie.

Maybe they are a hoax and maybe they aren't.

I can remember going to a presentation many years back with Ed & Lorraine Warren (they were "ghosthunters...were involved in the Amityville Horror investigation).

Anyhow, they said that the issue with a ouija board is that you may be "opening a door" to another realm, and the problem with that is that you have no idea who or what is going to walk through that door.

Made sense to me, so I never used one. Why push my luck?

As I said on the GH thread, IMHO they are a tool. Ouija boards aren't possessed, they aren't a doorway etc. They are just a focus point for the people participating.

Thank you! Doesn't he just make your heart go "flutter flutter'?

And you have a point. I guess the intent someone goes into something with has a lot to do with what they get out of it. Its like Halloween. I think its just a fun holiday for kids, but if someone goes at it with the intent of making it evil it would be.

All it took for me was watching the Exorcist. My kids were young when it came out and I would never let one in my house. That's the scariest movie of all time.

I agree with you on that. I was young when it came out but OMG it is by far and away the scariest book. I saw some of the priests who were in it on the old Merv Griffen show late night. They told stories that were even scarier.

True story here - wish I had a scanner to get the pics online - back in college (roughly 20 years ago) a bunch of us were using a Ouija board, and I was making fun of it. I always believed that it was a hoax, and was certain people were moving it with their fingers. Sometime during that night the dorm fire alarms went off & we were woken from a dead sleep, smelling smoke. We opened the door to our room & the hall was filed with smoke, we just ran outside. It was awhile til we were let back in & I had no idea what happened. When we went back in, here someone had lit the Halloween decorations on my door on fire. Thankfully the steel doors were fireproof, and the walls in the dorm were concrete, so it just did some damage to the carpet before it was put out - but we had to get rid of everything in our rooms due to smoke damage. Everyone truly believed I was cursed because I had made fun of the Ouija Board! They never found out who did it or how it happened...creepy!
