So after much research and planning my family (actually 3 families) decided to book with a reputable disney exclusive travel agency (no names!). After much going back and forth we were finally ready to leave the deposit. When I called to do so, the disney site was down so the travel agent booked the package and then emailed me. This was Friday, 2/1. Long story short, on Sunday she emailed me to explain that the package accidentally got booked twice and while I may get charged twice, don't worry because it will resolve itself in a few days.

As I only saw the charge listed once on my online banking, I was hoping for the best however this morning 2 $200 deposits have been cleared, putting my account negative! I am waiting to hear from travel agent and now I am second guessing using a travel agent because since I used her, I can't just call Disney to handle this. Also, I worked at the bank I currently still bank with so I know the bank will be of no help to me unless I want to pay for a stop payment.

I guess I'm just venting. As I like to be in charge of situations, I can't help but feel majorly disappointed that this happened and I can't just charge right in and fix the situation as I'd like to. I know mistakes happen but I am going to be seriously upset if I incur fees because of this.

Just move $200 from savings to cover it then move it back when the correct it, they will fix it.

I feel you -- 2 weeks ago something similar happened to us except that instead of Disney taking our $50 payment, they took the BALANCE of our trip -- $2500! That was not a fun week. We scrambled all week to find money to cover that.

WOOOOOWWWW. I would let them know right away!

And these are instances where using the credit card would've avoided the overdrawn situations and faster to reverse the charges.

Ugh! this happened to me once. we were going to St. Thomas and decided to pay for the trip ~4000 all at once. TA processed it twice, sending every thing else off. Bank was extremely nice and covered all fees but like you I was not a happy camper.

Like firefly09, I know use my credit card for all vacations. just way easier when mistakes happen

I know! I won't make that mistake again!

Exactly. Clark Howard recommends that you never give any one access to your account (automatic withdraw, electronic withdraw, etc) since mistakes can be made and while they are corrected, you are the one taking the hit.

Did she pay your deposit online through the DTA website? If so, it probably looked to her like the website got hung up (that hold screen can take _forever_ sometimes when processing a payment), she hit back and re-send and that'll cause a double charge. Sorry this happened to you. Did you explain the situation to your bank? I'm sure this happens often enough to other people (double charges) that they have a policy in place to deal with it. Still a pain for you though, sorry. :-(
