OTU & wait list

Apologies as I am confused by this!

Let's say I purchase 5 one time use points to make a reservation for OKW, but simultaneously I put myself on the waitlist for BLT for the same dates. If I'm able to get the BLT reservation off the waitlist can I transfer those 5 OTU points for that reservation? Or are those 5 points lost forever? (Disney's website says nontransferable but prior threads on this site suggest otherwise.)

I think by nontransferable they mean to another member. If you cancel your reservation those points will show up on your account, and you have until the end of your use year to use them. Or at least that's what happened when I cancelled a reservation with OTU points

The points can be used in the new room if it fills by waitlist, or if you modify that trip to a different resort on your own. OTU can not be transferred to someone else and expire at the end of the UY of the trip you bought them.

However, you have use of them for any and all trips that you make while they are still valid! The nice part is they are now usable online and do not require a call to change up which trip you are using them in!
