Ottawa

Last week I booked a flight from Plattsburgh NY (about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Ottawa) to Orlando for $110 return, taxes in for 2 weeks from now. I'll let everyone know how it works out. I've never flown from there before but you certainly can't beat the price.

Who did you book with? Through?

Stittsville Here! We head down March 10-20. I waited for JetBlue to release their flights out of Syracuse and prices were terrible. They wanted $421 US each. Flying AirTransat out of MOntreal for $400 each direct. Great flight times. Coming home on a weekend meant we pay more.

Have begun the planning!! Hopefully much warmer down there this March - last March was awful!

Another Eastender, Chapel Hill area.

The hubby and I are going on our first Disney cruise in January. We were just in Orlando in August for a Star Wars convention and were able to spend an evening at Hollywood Studios, but it's been two years since our last full Disney trip.

Can't wait until January!

Another from Ottawa West...carp..almost Almonte ;)

Booked a trip for March 13 2011 till March 19th..4 a family of 4..flying direct frm Montreal w/air transat.

Already booked my hotel for stay/park/fly in Montreal

Huge svgs vs leaving out of Ottawa or even Syracuse..

Can't wait till our trip...1st time 4 family 2 stay on site @ moderate and enjoy ddp...

Has anyone ever looked at leaving out of Buffalo. It's really only about a 5 - 5.5 hour drive.

Jeepers Pumba, only 5.5 hours? That's more time driving to the airport than flying! Why don't you just keep going south? Only another 18.5 hours to the MK then... :rotfl:

IMO, with kids and tight schedules and weather concerns at March break, I'd rather pay more to fly from here or Montreal at the farthest. Syracuse, maybe, but I'd worry about lake effect snow. Driving across the end of Lake Ontario can be harrowing at times.

Pumba, you don't say when you are looking to go. Buffalo has some great deals on JetBlue but off season and midweek (great airline too). We have family in TO and Niagara so I looked at this for March Break but prices were the same or worse than Syracuse.

Also as previous post states, travel could be awful in March. I'm worried about getting to Montreal - will be watching for inclement weather.

We're heading down in November .. the 19th actually. But the thing is we are flying to ATL not MCO .. my DS10 lives with his mum up in GA so we have to pick him up before heading to the MK.

Trust me that was the original plan due to value ... however our drive is about 20hrs to ATL and then down to MK then to North Port FL. Yadda Yadda.. this way we'll actually save about 20 hours behind the wheel and about 4500KM wear on our new car.

Totally agree. We often fly out of Rochester which is about 3.5 hours from here. AirTran has direct flights and for a large family, the savings are fantastic.

How have you found flying AirTran. It doesn't seem much cheaper than Delta when you factor in the charge for seat selection. But I was curious.

Flying to ATL do you think $568 is a good price? It's been a while since I've flown and I don't want to miss out on a good price because I was waiting for a price that isn't coming. LOL

Hey Pumba, seems like I know you from somewhere ;)

don't forget to factor in the luggage charge for most US airlines. We forgot about it this summer and had an extra $100 to add to our bill ($25 per bag, each direction)

Thanks, ... we looked at that as well and it still seems like we'll save nearly $400 by flying out of Buffalo vs Ottawa. Go figure. That's even factoring in fuel and parking. LOL

We've had no trouble with AirTran at all. Rochester airport is easy to navigate and we can leave our car at the Holiday Inn express for up to 10 days. Our flight left late by 90 minutes once but when you're on your way to DW, we didn't care.

November was $69 each way. We usually drive over spring break but the cost was $119 each way last March if you can leave on the Thursday.

just booked a flight from orlando direct to Ottawa for 144 canadian per,in feb, with westjet. They also have direct flights there at excellent prices but that's on wednesdays.

is that each way.. including taxes??

hello from across the river.

Cheap airfare... look into takinf jetblue from syracuse. Dirt cheat airfare often. We are going to WDW in 2 weeks and we are paying $179us including taxes each.

hello!
That's coming back, including taxes. They have direct flights there too,but only on wednesday. We're leaving on a thursday,so we booked with United ,with a short stop in washington, for 187 including taxes. This way ,we do the customs here and don't see our luggage again until it's in our room and coming back not until we're back in ottawa.Last time ,we did customs in toronto and almost missed our flight back to ottawa;much more convenient this way,for us anyway.

We just got back last night after flying to Disney for a week out of Plattsburgh NY on Allegiant. I'd never tried them before but when I found a price of $110 return including taxes I figured I didn't have anything to lose.

Plattsburgh airport was about a 3 hour drive from Ottawa. It's a tiny, but new facility on the outskirts of town. Parking was free(!) and it took about 20 minutes to get parked, through the terminal, check in, through security and to the gate. A very pleasant experience.

The flight was nothing special but it wasn't bad either. An older MD80 but it was still comfortable no-frills service (seats don't even recline which is nice that the person in front of you doesn't recline, but not so nice if you want to recline).

We arrived at Sanford airport in Orlando 2:45 later. Sanford was another nice treat. 15 minutes to deplane, get luggage and get the rental car. It takes maybe 15-20 minutes longer to drive from Sanford than what it takes from MCO, but you make that time up in the time it takes to get through MCO.

All in all, I highly recommend this option and will definitely do it again.

Thanks for the info. This is definitely something we'll have to keep in mind if we're ever flying direct to Disney.

Thanks again.
