Other than DVC what other timeshares are still closed in FL and SC? Why the difference between DVC and others timeshares

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. What I meant is that unless there was a specific government order elsewhere that prevents them from opening, all DVC should open at the same time. I just meant they can’t keep DVC in WDW closer if other WDW owned resorts are open

I believe that if DVC calculates that there are different condition that reasonably create significant higher risks at some DVCs, under the executive order and other statues they could selectively open I have never seen a union contract that did not have a preemptive clause to ensure the safety of workers, and most have preceedrues to cure statutory conflicts to prevent the whole contract being voided in court

A union agreement can not be a justification for not meeting the requirements of statute. I run into this regularly in my SPED advocacy work

But as subsidiary corporation of Disney the are by definition a separate legal entity with it their own legal responsibility. If DVCs relationship with Disney corporate prevents that then there is a big issue

They are actually an affiliate, but could be the same as a subsidiary. I think my point is that the presentation being done could very well include a component from DVC, but the role of the management company is to oversee it all

I definitely think that now that so much else is opening up we are getting to the point where it is harder to keep things closed, but so far, I can’t find anything that has been done to violate our contracts

I am not referencing the POS, I am referencing the key requirement in FL timeshare stature and other states the the tiemshare mus be managed in the best interest of the majority of members. The way the timeshare was wet up members have extremely limited contractual recourse (and even less in 14+)

The only question is should DVC have been able to open before the park plans were developed and submitted. Yes, I do believe that the opening of DS has opened the door for owners to now look for reasonable opening of DVC resorts and that is what I am hoping is shared this week.

VB closed the same time The others within a very short period of time. I believe it was less than a week.

The way it is worded is that owners of closed resorts would have the ability to still book elsewhere at 7 months or the Board could authorize the association to pay to have them stay at other resorts and owners of the closed resorts would cover it through a special assessment.

Owners of open resorts would not lose their home resort priority.

But there is not home resort priority for the time frame we are talking about. That is what confuses me.
Yes is might reduce any net remaining MF balance this year, but I assume it would be prorated on points used so that the open resorts members were not disadvantaged.

I was talking in general what the rule would be. But, the special assessment I am talking about would be charged to all owners of closed resorts and if they went that route, owners wanting to travel during the time the resort remain closed would not be allowed to use points at other DVC.

For example, say VGC was to remain closed for an additional 2 months. The condo association for VGC could decide to put owners who want to travel in those 2 months up at a hotel, and then charge for that hotel would be billed to all owners of VGC

Yes I can see if the differential is more than a month that the would have to make adjustments, though I am doubtful that they will wait for Aulani to reopen so that will have to be dealt with anyway

I agree,,,,they can’t wait for Aulani...I really do think they will open all DVC at WDW at once, even if it is before parks and without pools and only QS for take out.

ETA: I think another part of the problem and why it makes this so tricky is that some of the remedies for owners of closed resorts assumes most if not all of the other DVC resorts would be open to absorb those points.

With all of them shut, or opening a few, would make it hard, even for a few weeks for owners of an open resort to not allow them first dibs at the rooms.

I would not want to try to make odds on which way it would go if they were opening along with the other area timeshares, but it they do delay I would agree with you, the only real impediment is the paired resort hotels being open

Everyone makes really valid points but I guess my three biggest sticking points are:
1. If Disney/DVC is waiting on formulating their reopen plan on the parks that is a problem bc there is nothing guaranteeing DVC owners park use, so its operation shouldn’t precede our ability to use our timeshare
2. If the NBA thing goes through and they don’t ALSO open DVC - that is just outrageous
3. Total and complete lack of communication regarding anything. No talk of plans, timeframes, ideas, no talk. If I get one more email with a recipe I’m going to freak out. I understand this is unprecedented but the most important part of managing a crisis (apart from the actual crisis) is communication- to your employees & “clients” or whatever capacity we would be here. You want to manage expectations, even if you’re dropping breadcrumbs of info, you want to stay continuously in touch and be as transparent as is allowed.

I appreciate that they want to be safe but we don’t need the parks to be open.

as we approach June, July and August and other owners of other properties have access to their timeshares I’m going to need to hear a very substantial justification as to why we do not. And the longer we don’t hear ANYTHING the more disappointing this is.

So there's no state of emergency in South Carolina... what's their excuse for not opening that location?
