OT Will minor child's wage affect mom's SSI

Another fine government program to keep an entire family from working so they can continue to collect benefits and remain dependent on the government!

It's more than just this program that keeps people from working. People keep themselves from working, otherwise, we'd all be on services instead of going to work and earning our own living. Personal responsibility comes into play. There are plenty of families that have one parent on disability and they don't stop everyone else in the family from working. My friend is on SSDI and her husband works and her children work and they all pull together as a family. That's how it should be done.

RSDI and SSDI refer to two separate things. SSDI does NOT look at household income; the amount is based solely on the recipient's earning history and would only be affected if the recipient themselves were to work and, after accounting for a trial work period, were found to no longer be disabled.

That is what my job is, I think I would know. A person can be denied for SSI if their spouse's income is more than the SSI limit of $698. SSI is for those with no work history or not enough work credits to qualify for RSDI.

The term SSDI no longer exists, the programs are SSI and RSDI.

 I would think you would know, too, but I guess not. While SSI is needs-based, SSDI is not. RSDI is an umbrella term covering more programs than just SSDI.

Anybody reading should probably get their advice from a trusted attorney.
