See thats what amazes me. Think about the amount of energy and water you are wasting being so paranoid?!? Think about how much cotton was grown, picked, washed, pressed, spun, machined, made, packaged and flown across the world for you to get your 30 towels? How much energy that consumes? For you to then keep washing and washing when there really is no need. For goodness sake, you are CLEAN after your shower!

The only towels in our house that only get one use are swim towels that have got soaked and smell like chlorine or gym towels covered in sweat. All others, can have at least a few uses.

I have to say im not the greenest person in the world, but being deliberatly and uncaringly wasteful gets to me.

And for goodness sakes guys, bodily functions are bodily functions. We have dealt with them since man was created, and we seem to have done rather well as a species. Yes increases in hygene an understanding diseases has helped us as a populations, but the amount of OCD tendancies is getting crazy! Poop is poop, it washes off, as does any bodily fluid. I can't understand the big fuss about not touching 'certain areas' when you wash. You are cleaning, therefore cleaning your hand too as you go! :headache:

Ok i will get off my soapbox a much more confused woman as when i entered this thread. :confused3

*sigh*

Why on God's green Earth should it matter to YOU if I want to touch my own POOP or not??? That's the part that confuses me. It's my butt. It's my poop. I think it's disgusting. So WHY should I touch it with my hand if I don't have too? And why should that bother you? :confused3 :confused3

I don't like poop. That's me, it's part of who I am and I don't think I am ridiculous, or weird, or stupid, for feeling that way. I wash it with my poof, then the poofs get washed with the towels, as I switch them out for clean ones just like other people do with washcloths.

As for the saving water and energy, puh-leez. Our towels get piled in a basket in the laundry room for weeks because we have so many of them. Literally AT LEAST 30 towels in a two person home. So with DH reusing his, and me using one per day, we can go almost a month without having to do any loads of towels. Then at the end of the month, wah-la, wash two loads of towels and move on with life. It's not like I'm washing two loads a week. My friend uses 10 times as much water and energy than me washing her cloth baby diapers.

This thread was funny until it became so accusatory............

ITA with Wishspirit! :laundy: Washing your towels after every use is crazy! If I did that, I would have to do housework, instead of being on the DIS. Insane! No, I'm not green. Just lazy!

soaper, here. washcloths and those pouffie things skeeve me out. as for my 'nether regions', I just lather up my hands and go to town :confused3

Its not accusatory, im just saying my opinion, which i am entitled to.

I don't care if you touch your butt or not, that is really up to you, i am just saying that i think its crazy! Maybe cause i work with kids that i have to help change i get used to it. I just don't see it as something disgusting, but something normal and natural.

I also have the right to say what i think about how the energy in this world is being used, and if its one less load of laundry all the better (though i congratulate your friend on using cloth nappys (she sure doesn't mind poop! :goodvibes), because although it does use up energy to wash, in comparison to the mark made on the planet by plastic disposables she is doing a great job! :thumbsup2

I just really don't see the need thats all, but i agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the subject, and in no way was i trying to stifle yours.

I agree, all opinions are welcome. I have no problem with differing opinions, it's just frustrating when it starts to feel like someone is calling you crazy just because they have a different opinion than you.

That's not why I was calling you crazy. :rolleyes1

I use a pouf and a washcloth.

I am very religious and I don't PERSONALLY know anyone who thinks that their body is dirty or a bad thing. (I guess they must exist, but I have never met them) I do however know people, including myself who don't want to wash their butt crack with their hand. LOL!!!

Well, it shows up in people that have to be completely covered at all times. And I mean those that don't believe females should wear even remotely low cut tops or shorts that end 2" above the knee.
It's one thing to be fairly modest, it's another to be almost fanatical about it.

How many women do you know that would be comfortable using public restrooms without the stalls?

Why don't we have nude beaches in the US? Why is it that we are often shocked by how some cultures dress and how they treat sex?
Have you ever ventured onto the Dancing with the Stars threads? Have you ever read about what people say about the dancer Edyta? Her last name is Sliwinska, but some have taken to calling her Slutinsky just because some of her costumes are a little skimpy. But they are no worse than some I've seen in professional competitions.

Just about any female that dresses scantily is automatically supposed to be a slut or a skank or worse. Who cares as long as they have the necessary parts covered while in public?

*sigh*

And therein lies some proof of what I was saying.

I don't think she was saying for you to touch your poop. Just your butt crack. Presumedly, all the poop is actually gone after wiping yourself.

Your butt crack is a part of your body that is outside. Why should there be a problem with touching it? :confused3

I don't think I should be laughing this hard at a seemingly harmless thread. :rotfl: "what do you care if I touch my own poop?" yes I've turned into a 5 year old, I can't stop laughing at that.

BTW for what it's worth I use a washcloth and have since I was little, I just feel cleaner. I have all white bath towels and washclothes, I wash them in HOT water and bleach them and replace them with brand new ones very often. I'm sort of a germ-a-phobe.

Well I'm off to take my shower.

To touch or not touch, that is the question.

This is why I have no children. Well besides the fact that this lousy planet isn't worth bringing them into right now.

OT, but that's what people were saying 40 years ago. You must be a boomer. ;)

I agree. Judging others for doing something they're allowed to do, doesn't harm anyone else, doesn't put those people at an advantage over anyone else, and is consistent with the values and principles that those people subscribe to, is mystifyingly inappropriate. I know I don't have to tell you this, but ignore it. Those sentiments have no merit whatsoever, Angelhalo.

You're not a germaphobe, you're doing the correct thing.

I have read numerous articles (when they are discussing intestinal illnesses) that one must be VERY careful when handling laundry that includes underwear, dirty washcloths, and towels. They harbor the naturally occurring intestinal flora/fauna that we humans carry (e.Coli being one of them). You have to be extremely careful with underwear and washcloths, especially if they are used in "those" areas. You should use bleach and hot water, otherwise those bacteria can survive and can make you sick.

Sorry, maybe my ideas are a little :hippie: for your liking, but that doesn't stop me wanting to express my opinion on conserving natural resources.

Yes you are allowed to do it, and if you want to go ahead, i just feel that its a bit wasteful, and thats my views.

If you also don't want to touch your butt, thats fine with me too :rotfl:

To edit, yes it DOES harm people. People out in India who are picking cotton for stupidly low wages to make towels and clothes we just throw away. Due to our throw away culture, the price of cotton has gone down, leaving these people living on nothing. Not just the person picking cotton ether, but all the way along the line people in other countries are being exploited due to our need to have stuff we can just 'throw away' due to its cheapness. Where does all this 'thrown away' stuff end up? What happens when we run out of natural resources? These questions need to be considered by the everyday person to make a change.

Again, im on a soapbox that not everyone will agree with, but i felt it needed to be mentioned

I had updated my message you replied to to include considerations regarding "doesn't harm anyone else, doesn't put those people at an advantage over anyone else", and your comments regarding conserving natural resources fit within those categories.

If you also don't want to touch your butt, thats fine with me too :rotfl:
Or not, as was the PP's point, and in that case, judging folks based on their preference in this regard doesn't fall into any of the categories I mentioned; that was the kind of thing I was actually referring to. Again: judging either way, for or against.

Well I'm off to take my shower.

To touch or not touch, that is the question.

I just got out of the shower...I opted to "touch", but not on purpose....I was going to use the poofy for the second day in a row, however someone moved it and I wasn't sure which was mine and which was my son's, so I decided not to take a chance. :rotfl: BTW, I didn't feel any different using the poofy yesterday than when I use a washcloth or my hands. ;)
