Seems like most of the info posted is for those leaving the UK and heading this way...we actually have plans to drive from Calais (coming from Germany) taking the Eurotunnel this Sunday-Friday.

But I'm worried it's going to be too snowy. :( we had plans to drive to Lakenheath/Cambridge area and take the tube into London a few days...but I'm concerned about the weather between here and there.

Could anyone give me some current stats on conditions? Or what you're supposed to get from now til Sunday? :confused3

I'm so bummed.

Well that doesn't look too bad-Thanks! All the other sites I've been checking keep saying how bad it's going to be...and we have Sky, and they're all doom and gloom on nearly every weather update. :crazy2:

Hate to be a worry wart, but also don't want to drive into a snow storm either. Lol luckily we haven't booked the tunnel yet, so ite easy to cancel, just don't want to. :rolleyes2

ETA: Thank you Carrie...off to check now...are the Eurostar and Eurotunnel the same? Sorry, I've never been on either. :)

They pass more or less side by side at Calais. If the weather is bad in the region the roads will be rough the same as the train as you will have to slow down and if it gets really nasty it could be single file traffic.

Eurostar is the high speed train and Eurotunnel is cars, coaches and lorrys

There might be some delays on Eurotunnel due to the weather best to check with them directly.

Cambridge is OK there is very little snow on the roads in the Cambridge area. Suffolk and Norfolk is a little worse. Just alow some extra time for your journey between Cambridge and Lakenheath both the A14 and A11 have seen some very serious accidents this week with a number of fatalities due to the poor driving conditions. The M11 is fine but the M25 was experiancing delays today due to the weather.

Weather wise we are looking at -1 in the day times to -7 at night with light snow fall expected Fri - Sun with rain on Monday and cloudly for the rest of the week. Not sure if your in the US Airforce but the current road conditions are Amber - Caution, but no restrictions. Road surface is wet or slushy, visibility is restricted and temperatures are low. We have not seen any Red alerts this week. Lakenheath road condtions can be found here.

That's just perfect Jonjo! Thanks so much...I needed that first hand knowledge! We're going to discuss and try to figure out what to do...thanks so much all!:thumbsup2

In Cambridge at the moment! The major roads in the city are quite well gritted (actually saw a truck gritting the roads earlier) so are quite clear of snow - although there is still some snow/ice right at the edges of the road where the grit didn't get to. The side roads that weren't gritted currently have a light dusting of snow. Not sure about outside the main city area.

BBC weather http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2653941 says clear tomorrow and some light/heavy snow on Sunday...

Just back from driving into Cambridge myself, and it's all nice and clear. Main roads into the city have been well gritted over night, with both the A10 and A14 both clear of all snow and running well. All the snow has now melted on the roads in my village. The temperature must have gone up a bit as my cat was sitting happily in the garden this morning.

Looks like for now we have escaped the worst of the snow here but as sky13 says the forcast for tomorrow is for snow.

They have just forecast that between 5cm - 8cm of snow will fall this afternoon in the Cambridge and Suffolk arrears.

Northern France is still on alert and it is snowing non stop across the area - snow is due to fall all day and all night and motorists are advised not to drive unless it is really necessary.

Sounds like MissSkellington should stay in Germany this week.

Yes - in Cambridge city centre right now and snow is really coming down - main roads are still clear but smaller roads have snow, also sidewalks are quite slippery...

Yep same here in our village, I took DW into work this morning and the roads into Cambridge and to the hospital were nice and clear but it started to snow at around 10.30am and has not stopped. It's settling and is quite deep in my garden now. I just hope I can collect her when she finshes work at 8pm tonight.

Think they're pretty good at maintaining access to the hospital actually - I'm fairly sure I've even seen them gritting the small roads that go through the site!

It really has been coming down quite heavily today - hope you manage to get into Cambridge and back okay later!

Well the snow has stopped falling here now, hope it does not start again.

Yes they do keep the roads around the Addenbrooke campus gritted. My major concern is geting out of the village as I think this snow will turn to ice if the temperature keeps falling now that it is geting dark. They don't grit the roads in our village anymore.

Hope you were okay last night! There were some very icy side roads today (fell off my bike turning into one of them earlier from a gritted road!)... The snow is really pretty but just so bothersome trying to get around at the moment!

Hope your OK after your fall off your bike. Roads were OK last night. And my trip to the office down the A14 and M11 was fine too.

Not looking forward to tomorrow I'm expecting a lot of side roads to be very icy.

Take care on your bike around Cambridge. We live out in Waterbeach BTW.

Am okay - thanks!

You were right - still lots of icy side roads today, but much better than yesterday was - hopefully the warmer weather later this week (according to the current forecast at least) will get things back to normal!
