OT - Sturdy Shoes for DS?

DS is 3 1/2 and is going through shoes like crazy! I buy a new pair of shoes, and the toes have holes in them within a week or two. My mom suggested I go to Nordstrom, because they used to guarantee shoes to last when my brother was little and had the same problem. They would always replace the shoes if they didn't last while they still fit him.

I took DS to Nordstrom and we purchased a pair of Geox shoes. They said if they wear out quickly, bring them back, no problem. It's been less than 2 months and we are on our 4th pair! :scared1: They have told me that these shoes are supposed to be very sturdy, but so far, I don't really believe that. :sad2:

Does anyone have any recommendations? I don't mind buying fairly expensive shoes if they will last. I just don't have the time and/or money to buy shoes every week or two!

You might want to try some trekkers or some mocs from Lands End. DS#1 has worn the heck out of his mocs from them.

Wow - I have 2 boys, and I swear by Geox (sneakers). They're the only ones that have held up for us.

Stride Rite may be an option. I have had to return shoes there that came apart, but they replaced them, no questions asked.

I bought my DS a pair of their SuperBall sneakers about 3 months ago and they still look brand new!! And he is very rough on his shoes. I've been really impressed with these. They are expensive, but have been worth it. He actually chooses to wear these over his crocs :thumbsup2

Wearing a hole through a leather shoe in TWO WEEKS is not normal wear and tear, even for a 3 yo boy. He is doing something odd that he shouldn't be doing (like maybe repeatedly scraping his toes across concrete? or walking in puddles), and I think your best bet is to find out what it is and teach him to stop doing it.

If these are sneakers and the problem is that the rubber toe-cap is separating, don't write them off. Take them to a shoe repair shop. There is a special glue for repairing rubber sneaker soles, and it will only cost you about $3 and 10 minutes to have them glued back down for good and all. (It holds MUCH better than original mfr. DH had a pr. of Merrells than did that; I had them glued and he wore them for another 8 years.)

That said, Stride-rites have very solid rubber toe-caps and tend to hold up well.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! I'll definitely start looking at some of these and see what might work for us. :thumbsup2

mjkacmom - I can see how Geox would be great for some boys! They are fairly sturdy, it's just that the ones I've had are super reinforced at the center of the tips of the toes and my DS wears them out on the side of the big toes.

NotUrsula - He is using those ride-on toys at daycare and scrapes his feet along while doing it. I've talked to the teachers about that and they've told me they would "watch" for it. So far I don't think there has been much done in that area. I'm still working on that, but I thought it couldn't hurt to try out some new shoes! :goodvibes
