OT - Part 3 - Do we really chat this much?!

I got really annoyed with Robert's mother a while ago.... When she found out we didn't want kids, she went mad and told us we were being selfish because she wanted grandchildren!!!! Robert went absolutely beserk with her and told her it would be worse if we had kids and didn't want them!!

She also tells everyone that: "Robyn doesn't want kids."..... We always have to jump in and point out that: "Robert and Robyn don't want kids.".... I do get annoyed with my friends who always say that I'll have kids, that I'll be a great Mum, etc..... No-one seems to want to listen to people that don't want kids! I've got nothing against people who want children, but it annoys me that a lot of people think that just because I'm getting married I should automatically have an urge to start having children!

Oooof! That turned into more of a rant than I was expecting! Apologies all! All I actually wanted to say was: In my opinion, if you want kids, fair enough. If you don't, also fair enough!

I'm lucky in a way as my sister has 2 children so my parents are already grandparents, so I have no pressure from them.

I think my parents will collapse with shock if I announced I was getting married

My Mum has mentioned it, but she's fine with it really. Robert's Dad doesn't mind as long as we're happy, but his mother has real issues with it..... We just ignore her now.... It's our life after all!

I used to have similar responses as I didn't have my first daughter until I was 29. Lots of my husband's family assumed that it I didn't want children and they tried to convert me by pushing small babies into my arms all of the time. I was never broody before my first child but I always knew I wanted children eventually. I think that women who make a choice to not have children are given a much harder time by society than men who make a similar choice. It's very unfair.

It is a contant battle Bob - you start going out and everyone wants to know when you are getting engaged - then married - then when are you having babies - if you have one they want to know when the next one is coming - if you dont have they want to know why

Very true... Because Mr Tiggs& I have been together 7yrs we're ALWAYS being asked when we're getting engaged,married or if we're planning on having children soon etc. We just laugh it off, yes we have been together a while for ppl our age but we're still young yet
