OT- Oil and Disney

When did you go? People that went the last week said it was NOT crowded at all in the parks. :confused3

I dunno. I was there last week (two days at Epcot, interspersed with other things) and I was out of my mind with how crowded the place was. From now on, I'm an off-season chick. Disney would have to pay me to do it again in early-July heat and crowds. Blech.

Back on topic, I saw an advertisement last night for the state of Florida talking about its "pristine beaches" and how people should check out the beach webcams before canceling their vacations. Whatever some may think of the OP's sis, my thought is that her worst crime is merely watching the news - for a broke state to produce and air a prime-time ad correcting this particular misconception shows she's not the only one to hold it.

Wow! I am stunned that some are taking this so serious. I am not talking about the oil spill (I believe we all understand the serious nature of the issue) but rather the question posed by the OP. An honest question in search of an honest answer. Instead of taking the oppotunity to educate some chose to take the opportunity to belittle and mock. The OP is hardly "maligning" the state of Florida. Perhaps when it was mentioned that Disney was being affected by the oil spill the statement was meant to be more figurative than literal. Of course there won't be any oil so far inland, however, that certainly doesn't mean that it can't be affected in other ways.

Ok, well, thank you to those who offered helpful insight!

To the others...

My sister didn't make up the fact that she heard that Florida was being affected by the oil spill- she heard it on our local news. So... should she have just swallowed up that information, not believed it, and not told me, even though she knew that we're going to Dis in October? What an IDIOT she must be for relaying information she heard and believing it! How DARE her! Give me a break, guys! :headache:

I am asking the mods to close this thread because this is getting ridiculous.

Sorry but your sisters commend found his way to some European Florida boards and even they laugh about it.

If the news said that the sky was falling, would your sister believe it?

Common sense, knowledge of geography and a knowledge of current event other then the local news would have helped here.

I personally visit no less then 6 various news sites daily for a variety of info, so I'm not dependent on one source. I rarely watch the local news as its the same I read earlier online.

I didnt read all of the threads but it sounds to me that the OP heard some info that may effect her family dis trip and came to you knowleagable and SOMETIMES very helpful people for some clarification on if it was or is factual info
so instead of being rude give Op the facts and not opinions if you dont know if there is an effect on dis don't comment come on people dis is a great experiance and I wouldnt want mine disturbed by some crazy side effect of this oil spill witch is POSSIBLE

now Am I gonna get batterd for poor spelling?

lets try to treat people how we would like to be treated!!

Sometimes I really do think common sense has flown the coop. Google is an amazing tool and has a wonderful map feature. Please be more careful about spreading false information, even if it's unintentional. The media does a fine enough job of that already.

OP, I hope you have a great trip.

As far as the rude comments, maybe her sisiter heard a comment on the news, thought of DSIS's trip and mentioned it in passing. It's not her trip, why would she google it, look up a map or anything else? And Op, not knowing what the problems could be, asked a ? On the DIS. It's not like she said Florida sucks, Don't go there etc etc. Her biggest mistake was asking here instead of researching herself. :confused3

And we are planning a trip to PCB in October whch we may or not cancel depending on the oil situation. I try to keep updated from local reliable source but 1st you have to wade through all the sensational, all of FL is wrecked media stories. So give the OP a break. It's not like none of us have ever said, done or asked anything stupid before...:confused3:confused3;)

Thank you :worship:

This has all gotten way out of hand :headache:

SDSorority-sorry that rotten people exist. Unfortunately the lesson I have learned over time is to post less and less.

Have a wonderful vacation.

Forget the oil spill... the nastiness of some of the FL resident replies is enough to keep me from visiting....

OK, I clicked on this thread out of curiosity..it said please close, so I was being nosey..LOL

As a Floridian..I understand where ppl are coming from. Many people think ALL of Florida is covered in thick black muck, because the MEDIA causes it. FL economy is based on tourism dollars, and many people are just frustrated, thats all..

As with everything else on the DIS, take it with a grain of salt, and move on.

I haven't read all of the responses. I did see on one of the national news stations the other day, A report where they were saying that they found tar balls near Orlando. :confused3

Maybe the OP's sister has never been to Disney, knows it is close to Orlando and is going by that!

And I still fail to see have the OP could believe Disney World was somehow dealing with the oil spill. Her tag states - "The Swan- my home away from home." Is there another Swan or has she really never been to Orlando???
Now I understand. She is worried that poor Swan is going to be covered with black goo when she gets there.

i have heard that it has affected the its a small world ride. and in the potc battle scene, you get splashed with oil.
