I am so happy with my students. I just got back the state testing scores today and they did better than I thought they might. I only have 2 that will have to attend summer school and one of those really needs another year of third grade. Anyway I am very excited but I can't say anything to my students so it is just bottled up inside and i had to let it out.

FCAT Scores are in? Wonder how my step-nephews did. The younger one is in 6th grade and was struggling with his math this year

Wow! Your scores are in already!!! Great!! We wait 3 months to receive our stuff back... That is wonderful news!!!
You are doing a wonderful job with those numbers!!!!

CONGRATS!!!! :)

3rd grade scores are in but not most of the grades. We take our test the begining of March so it has been a couple of months.

That's great news....

I have to ask you a question.....I was talking to someone that lives up north and I now live out west. And they made a comment that went something like this....that the schools down south are behind by a year then the schools up north.

Those are her words not mine.... so please don't anyone get mad at me.

As a teacher I was wonder if you had ever heard this comment before about different areas of the country?

I grew up in the New England schools and moved to Florida and felt like we were learning stuff I had already learned. I am not sure about now but I feel as though the curriculum in Florida is on par with that in North Carolina and those are the only curriculums I have studied so I don't know about anywhere else.

I know that are social studies curriculum is not on the same course as the rest of the country. We teach ancient history through the age of discovery- most states are teaching communities in that grade level.

As far as reading and math I don't know where we are but the state tests cover the states own curriculum so the students are only measured against others with the same standards.

I know one reason many of our students are behind here is that they don't speak English at home so they don't have the vocbulary level they need to pass the testing.

Great job, Rebecca!!! Sounds like those kids have an AWESOME teacher!! :cheer2:

I moved to Florida from MA the summer before Sophomore year. I was ahead in a lot and only had 1 required class my senior year (English IV) I had already taken World History freshman year, where here it's a sophomore class. So, I took American History sophomore year (instead of Junior) and Government/Econ Junior year (instead of senior)

My sisters are younger, Beth was in 4th grade and was ahead of her classmates a bit in some stuff. Kim was going into 7th grade, but she was never an academic so she was about in line with her classmates (if not behind)

Way to go Rebecca!!! Great job!!! It's so rewarding to be a teacher, especially at times like this!!! You can be proud of yourself!!!
