A friend and his family will be in Houston , TX for two nights in January with their two young children. They have asked me to research a family friendly hotel for them that would be closeby some shopping (the galleria maybe) and would also offer a nice heated pool for the kids, and perhaps breakfast . They would be interested in probably a four star hotel and are probably comfortable paying approx $200 per night.

I have looked so far on priceline just to get familiar with the different areas as well as on hotelkingdom.

Any suggestions for a hotel for them would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

There is a nice Embassy Suites near the Galleria. Your best bet for families.

The Westin Oaks or the Westin Galleria. I have stayed there with my girls and we all loved it! Shopping is wonderful and there is an ice skating rink on the bottom level. The hotels open right onto the mall. (Galleria) I believe both have pools.

I think there's also a Doubletree a block away on Post Oak...though I can't say if the pool is heated or not.

Also, tell them to take the kids to eat at Amazon Grill. http://www.cordua.com/cordua.cfm?a=cms,c,8,4,46

When we lived there we took my neice and nephew. It's yummy food for adults, but the kids menu includes, get this, a side of cotton candy! Plus, you can order one of those s'mores platters you see sometimes where you make the s'mores at your table. Fun :)

The Houstonian Hotel is near the Galleria and is really nice. Beautiful grounds, fantastic health club, tennis courts, etc (hotel guests get full use of the club). The pools are heated, but not indoor.

Granted the Galleria is... well, the Galleria, but don't forget about The Woodlands.

During Christmas, they have a skating rink, the Waterway, the mall and Market Street, which has many upscale shops.

Here is a link to The Woodlands Resort:

Market Street:

And to the area as a whole:

My personal preference would be serenity of The Woodlands. It's very nice during the holidays.

I live in the DFW metro area now (but am a native Houstonian). All the above suggestions are good, but thought this might also be helfpul. They ran an ad in Dallas tonight for www.visithoustontexas.com, and it looks like there are all sorts of deals on attractions, etc. - probably even hotels, but I didn't look that far. Looks like they're trying to boost tourism, so maybe there are some good deals to be had!

They have decided to visit this attraction:

The Children’s Museum of Houston
1500 Binz,
Houston, TX 77004-7112

Can someone tell me what area this is located in (ie. Galleria, downtown etc) so I can start looking in that area for a hotel. They are hoping to stay close by the childrens museum.
Anyone know of any nice hotels in this area?

Thank you

Oooh... I used to go to the Children's Museum all the time as a kid. I wish I could help you out as far as the hotels, but I haven't been around that area in a while!
