OT - How long does Easter Chocolate last?

DD4, DS3 (almost 3) and DD1 (almost 1) rec'd lots of Easter Choclate and candy, even though I specifically ask not to buy it. Buy Pretezels, PF Gold Fish and other "better" snacks. Few listen but most bought chocolate, even for my 10 month old.

I was wondering How long can Easter Choclates (bunnies, M&Ms and jelly beans) last? What's their shelf life?

There's no way they can eat all this (and I really don't want them to). I hate to throw it out but I think just may have to. I alway threw out the hard candy and weird candy not age appropirate candy.

If I gave some M&Ms here and there, when are they not good?

LOL ~ I don't have an answer for you, but I have the same dilema!!! My DS is 7 almost 8 and ate off the bunny ears and that's it !!!!!!!!! Since Easter! I think I"m going to just toss his -- clearly he's not interested in eating it!!

I had heard when we went on a field trip to a local candy making company that chocolate is good forever. Personally, I think that's gross, but they do have these huge animals made out of chocolate that have been there for well over 50 years. (Not that I would want to take a bite out of one) They said the key is to keep it in a cool place and not allow the chocolate to heat up and cool down. I tend to throw out Easter candy within about 3 months.

you can use it for baking. Make a batch of chocolate chunk cookies (chop up those bunnies!!! ) or M&M cookies. Put the cookies in a freezer bag and pull them out next time you need to bring something to a party or send treats to school.

I'm pretty sure that M & M's fall into the same class as the chocolate.......forever. There is nothing on the hard candy shell that will spoil. I think it's more a personal choice on how long you want to let it go. There is no expiration date on them.

I didn't think to use it to bake w/. It's a great idea.

I just thought of using the M&Ms instead of Sugared Almond for Party Favors (Wrap w/ tulle and place on the favor gift). For DD1 Family birthday party which I need for late june. Do you think the M&Ms will ok by then. I would be emebrassed it they were not good. Has anyone kept then for 3months?

I have bought M&Ms and other chocolate candy when they to 75-90% at Target after the holidays & kept them until the next year without any problems. I store them in rubbermaid containers in the closet.

Easter candy from this Easter is just fine.....

I bought Christmas candy at 90% off. It was the candy coated kisses in red, green and white. I took them home and separated them into colors and gave the red ones to the kids for Valentine's Day and the green ones they got for St. Patrick's Day. The white ones ended up in their Easter baskets.

In our house...easter candy lasts until halloween. halloween candy lasts until christmas. christmas candy lasts until valentines day. valentines candy lasts until easter. Then we start over. We're not big candy eaters...but always end up with a ton of candy...most of it ends up getting trashed.

Same here. I found some jelly beans (Starburst) in the pantry that had fallen behind the shelf and they were from last year and still sealed. I opened them and they were fine. My aunt had some chocolates that got worms in them. Also I got kisses for Christmas (a little gift from someone) and they were white!!! I thought they may have been frozen.

We're a house of females and I passed down my love of chocolate to my girls. My husband can make a hershey's miniature last a week - crazy man!
