Well, clipping your kids hair is budget related! I know after the thread on here not too long ago a lot of people on here do it, so thought I'd ask. We have a pair of Conair hair clippers, they are probably 7 years old, but barely used, dh just got them when he had a goatee. I clipped the boys hair a few weeks ago, they didn't seem to work that great, but throught it was user error. The boys hair turned out cute anyway! But, today I tried it again, and it just didn't seem to be cutting well, and it wasn't even. I would cut a section and there would be chunks that weren't cut, they also didn't sound quite right.

Do I need new clippers or is there something I need to clean out or can sharpen? If I do need a new pair, what is a good kind to buy and where?

Also, does it make a difference if you are cutting dry or wet?

I did hair before becoming a SAHM.
I think it is best to cut dry hair with clippers. Also, have you oiled them lately? They should have come with a small thing of clipper oil. Just clean them off really well. I find a cheap toothbrush works great. Then, add a couple of drops of oil on them and turn them on for a few minutes. If they were dropped the blades might not be even. Unless it's a very nice set of clippers, I would not bother trying to have them sharpend or repaired beyond that. I think you can get clippers pretty cheap these days so it's much easier to just do that. Hope that helps.

we spray wd40 on the blades after each use and befroe ...I do my 4 boys and hubby ..In 17 yrs i think i have bought 3 so ..The wd40 helps alot ...I use it every month my boys wont let there hair grow ,,They always want buzzes lol ...Try wd40 and wiggle the blades and see if that helps ...Good luck

Thanks very much for your replies!

Last time I cut their hair I asked dh if we needed a new pair because they were acting funny, he said no, he'd only used them a couple of times. So, last night after I got your replies, I mentioned it to him about oiling, and he looked at me like I was stupid and said, well, of course you have to oil them each time! Grrrrr.... ok, so why didn't you mention it last time I asked if something was wrong with them?? :sad2: So, he took them apart, cleaned them and oiled them, so now they seem to work fine!
