Hi there, I noticed in another post you mentioned you loved Maui. A friend told me about an excellent offer from Starwood.(800-553-0464)The Westin Maui on Kaanapali beach, 5nights/6days, 749USD which works out to approx 150 night for a hotel whos rack rate is 260-300 night! I called as we are going next year but they are only booking until December. It also includes christmas but I am sure it will fill fast.It is not a time share thing, but they do also have one linked to a timeshare presentation for the new Westin Maui Ocean Club just up the beach. They told me I could buy now and then book later when they are booking next years dates but I don't know my exact dates yet. The last time we stayed in Kaanapali we had breakfast around the pool at the Westin and it was really nice, the pool was a bit crowded compared to the Hyatt but looked like fun!Aloha.

Oh how I wish we could go back again soon. We went for our honeymoon and 2nd anniversary now I'm thinking 5th in 2007.

Thanks for the heads up.

Can I borrow the thread and ask you 2 a few questions? We have yet to get to Hawaii because of the distance from MB and we are waiting until we are able to go a full 2 weeks (hard to do with the kids still in school right now). How do you find the cost of everything, food, restaurants, outings? I've heard it is quite expensive. Is finding a place right on the beach necessary or maybe I should say more enjoyble? Is it easy to get around, a rental car necessary?

thanks, I've always loved the look of Hawaii and will definately get there one day.

Sandy

Hi Sandy! Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread. Hawaii can be very expensive, especially food, but so can Disney if you don't know what you are doing. You really have a variety of choices from renting a condo and doing most of your cooking to getting a hotel with breakfast buffets included in the price to offset some of the cost. Hotals can be VERY expensive but the best way to handle that is Priceline or Hotwire. I personally have never booked though SkyAuction but I know they offer Hawaii properties as well. The airfare is usually the most expensive part of the trip for us. I think Hawaii is expensive for people because they feel they need to stay 10 days to 2 weeks to get the most value out of the airfare cost. This of course ends up costing more than a 1 week all inclusive because it is longer (and yes is generally a little more expensive). Just today, I got a Fare Watcher update from Travelocity with airfare from Buffalo for 621 Cnd to Maui. That is not a bad price.I am not sure what to expect to pay from where you are but you can break it up and take a cheap flight to Vancouver then you can get some great specials from there on HMY airways, Aloha Airlines(in bankruptcy protection at the moment), even Air Canada does specials from time to time.Even if you are aiming to go in a few years time, I would do your research now and figure out which islands you want to visit first. I always recommend Maui for first timerswith side trips to the other islands like Kauai or the Big Island of Hawaii for a few days just to get the flavor.Get in touch with the Hawaii visitors bureau and get them to send you a pack outlining the areas and highlights of each island so you can see what suits you. I think it is 1-800-gohawai or check it our on line ar www.gohawaii.com. Feel free to post to me if you want any details on hotels, luaus, etc as I have been quite a few times. Aloha. :sunny:

Sounds good, thanks for your help. The flight is quite long and expensive from MB. What I always wanted to do is to go 2 weeks and spend one on a cruise of the islands....gotta stop grabbing last min deals everywhere else and start saving for that though, lol

thanks for link :)
