OT does anyone live in or near Destin Fl

My DS 18 has just been offered a summer placement in a Waffle House in Destin, Fort Walton, Panama City area, he would be given accommodation at a cost but I would like to know what it's really like. How would an 18yr old Scottish boy get on? He is not worried but I am.
We are coming over to WDW in June / July for 14 nights so we will make the journey to go and visit.

I visit Destin fairly often, every couple years or so. It's a nice area. Acutally were going on vacation there at the end of June.

I have a condo in Destin and vacation there several times a year. It is a nice area. It is a very family friendly area. I think he will have a great summer!

Sorry, I don't live there either, but have vacationed there a few times. I have friends there on vacation now and another couple of friends who go twice a year.

We all think it is a great place.

I live about 45 minutes west of Destin and have been numerous times since I grew up in the NW FL panhandle. It is a nice place, touristy in places, gorgeous sugar white beaches, pretty family oriented,a few nice outdoor outlet malls, and while the traffic can get really bad on the main road it is at a much slower pace than someplace like Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.

And it is only about 6 hrs. from WDW.

He accepted the offer today so next steps are going to London to get his Visa approved, book the flights, work out the best option to get him to his acomodation wherever that may be, get him packed and all sorted for his USA adventure.

I can tell I'm in the baby years here since every time I see this, I read it as "Desitin." I do live with too much of that in my life, for sure! Not sure that's helpful, though.

Destin is a beautiful area! My family still lives there and I go back every summer for a vacation. There are LOTS of tourist there during the summer so the traffic can be crazy. The beaches are the best in the world with sugar white sand and emerald green water.

its absolutely beautiful..and very safe..fort walton is a couple of towns over which houses a military base so there are allot of military families in those areas as well as seeing them in fatigues..its very safe. he ll be fine.

Thank you all very much, for making me sane about my baby boy going all the way over to Florida on his own. I knot it's a bit ridiculous when there are boys younger than him fighting for freedom and I'm nervous about him going to one of the most beautiful and peaceful areas that there is. xx.
