I already have a 256 MB xD card for my FujiFilm digital camera. I know I want to get another memory card before I go to WDW in 7 days, if for no other reason than it'll give me the opportunity to leave a full memory card at WDW's photo services (whatever it's called) so those photos can be burned onto a CD and the card wiped clean, while still having another memory card in my camera so I can continue to take pictures while my CD is being burned.

A retailer has 256 MB cards on sale so that 2 of them will be about $6 cheaper than one 512 MB card. I know I want an additional 512 MB in total. So which should I choose, 2 more 256 MB cards, or one 512 MB card (remember that I already own a 256 MB card)? Is there any advantage to owning 3 cards versus 2 cards, if the total capacity is the same either way?

I would get the 2 cards instead of 1 larger one. That way if something should ever happen all your images aren't on one card. I always take 2 cards with me so I shoot some on each.

You could lose a card and if you have 2 then you haven't lost as many images.

I personally would get the 2x256 rather than the 1x512 just because if something happens to one card, you still have another backup. If something happens to your 1 512 card (lost, stolen, broken, corrupted, etc) it's gone.

Since xDs are so small, bringing another card isn't going to make much of a difference. This trip, I'm bringing 5 cards total - 3 CFs and 2 xDs. Doesn't realy take up any space at all.

I would get 1 large card that can hold more pictures. The price to download pictures is $12 at MK regarding how many pictures are on that card. If you have 1 card its $12 ...if you have 2 cards its $24 dollars.

It all depends on your download budget. Have a great trip!

My understanding is that the max number of pictures on the disk that can be burned at Disney is 120 per disk. At least that is what I have read on some of the other threads.

Like others have suggested, I would get the 256x2 to be able to spread out you pictures in case you lose a card or a card developes a fatal error. There is not a high incidence of card failure, especially with new cards, but it does happen and I would rather be prepared and not lose ALL of my vacation pictures from the failure of one memory card.

Just my opinion, for what its worth. Everyone seems to have pretty strong and varied opinions on this subject. Ultimately you should do what is going to be best for your situation and budget.

I had a similar decision for our last trip and went with two smaller cards rather than 1 large one and I don't regret it. I have found it easier to keep things organized and liked that if something happened you weren't losing near as many pictures. Hope this helps.

It's not that I don't appreciate everyone responding and trying to help, but I must have miscommunicated somewhere. I'm not deciding whether to have 1 memory card or 2. I already own one. I'm definitely going to buy 512 MB additional memory. My question was, am I better off buying 2 256 MB cards (giving me a total of 3 cards) or buying 1 512 MB card?

I know having 2 is better than 1. I already have one. Should I buy another 1, a 512, or another 2, 2 x 256? As I said in the OP, the cost is the same either way. THANKS!

I'm still saying buy 2x256. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I still think the 2 because its $6 less and spreading your pictures out on several cards versus keeping them on just 2 cards.

I would buy 2 more 256 Xd cards. I am in the same predicament but my problem is a little more complex. I have the opportunity to buy a 512 XD card for $20 cheaper than buying 2 -256XD cards. I wanted two smaller cards but with the larger one being cheaper, I'm not so sure anymore. But for the same price, I would buy two smaller one's definately.

I hope this answer helps you. If you look around, I know they sell a little book that will hold up to 6 XD cards and lock shut. it reduces the risk of losing them.

How about just going with thsi deal for the same price?

Will you have access to a car while at WDW? Last month while at WDW, a CM recommended we get our film developed at Walgreen's. It was a great recommendation! Not only did we get our film developed, but we also downloaded our digital memory cards to cd. The price was very good especially compared to Disney. Our 512 mb card required two cds, but the price of two cds was less than one cd at WDW. We used the Walgreen's on 535 just south of I4. They use Fuji equipment.
