I don't know whether or not to be concerned??? My older DD lost her teeth starting at age 5 (in kindergarten).... she's 6 3/4 now and has lost 8 in total.

My younger DD is 4 yrs/6mo. and today she pointed out her bottom front tooth is wiggly!!! She's in preschool w/ yet another year of preschool to go (she has a Sept. bday and misses the 8/31 cut-off).

Our dentist's office had a fire 2 months ago and they are still rebuilding so I can't call to ask advice............ Can anyone reassure me and tell me that it's ok for a child to lose their first tooth at 4.5??? She has not had any trauma/injuries to her mouth that we're aware of and her teeth look otherwise healthy...

Thanks in advance!!!! :)

I think it depends on how early they get their first teeth, did she get them early?

She got her first 2 teeth within days of each other @ 5.5 months.... (how awful is it that I had to refer to her baby book since I couldn't remember!?!?! :rotfl: )

Yes, 2 of mine lost their first tooth at 4. Funny thing is another of my kids lost her first one at age 8! My youngest is 4, and hasn't lost any yet.

My DD lost her first tooth at 4 yrs 9 mths. I never even knew it was loose! DH took her on a class trip since I was 8 mths pregnant with #3 at the time and wasn't up to a hay ride. When they walked in the front door, I immediately saw she was missing a tooth. DH and DD had no idea!! When I started questioning DD, turns out she "saw something red" when she bit into her apple but DH told her it was probably just apple skin, lol!:lmao: :lmao: DD then remembered pulling a "hard part of the apple" out of her mouth to examine it but she dropped it in the car. I had to call the mother that drove them on the trip to search her car for the tooth for the toothfairy, hehe. She did actually find it, under one of the floor mats.

Of course, being my first child, I did panic because I figured something was wrong that she lost a tooth so early. I thought I had a few more years before dealing with that. However, her pediatric dentist assured me it was on the early side, but it was fine.

I'm sure your DD is fine, just on the early side. Since your dentist isn't available, you could probably ask your pediatrician if you want some reassurance though.

At least you have it written down in a baby book...:rolleyes1

I have a baby book for my first child with a few things filled out, I have a brand new baby book for my second child with a few things written on a scrap of paper stuck inside the book, and well, for my third child... I don't even have a book! :confused3 :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My DS (now 8) told me repeatedly at 4 that he had a loose tooth. I smiled and thought how cute he was imitating his older friends. Then one day he handed me the tooth and told me it had fallen out.

I called the pediatrician in a panic, she told me it's completely normal to lose teeth at that age. I calmly pointed out that the rest of my family lost their teeth very late, and that clearly something was wrong because DS wasn't supposed to lose his teeth so early. She, equally calmly, pointed out that DS was adopted do using my teeth to predict his wasn't going to work.

OK, good point -- forgot about the adoption thing.

Anyway, the point is that apparently it's totally normal to lose teeth at 4. He's now 8 and still "ahead" of the kids in his class as far as which teeth he loses.

DS lost his first tooth at 4. He just turned 6 on 4/5. He has lost 7 teeth total. The tooth fairy is going to go broke at this rate. Thankfully DD is only 2.

My DS7 just lost his 10th tooth this weekend!!! He started losing them at 4!

Dentist said no big deal!!!! Just get ready... the tooth fairy can put a hurtin on your wallet!!!

My oldest lost her 1st tooth a few months short of her 5th birthday.

She lost her 2nd last summer (she was 5) & just lost her 3rd 2 weeks ago (she will be 6 on May 5th).

She has a few other wiggly ones.

The dentist last year said it is early but it does happen with some kids.

She got her first tooth when she was 6 months & 1 day old on my 30th birthday.

A friend of mine has a dd the same age (May 01 birthday) & she lost I think about 6 teeth already if not more (I lost count).

Two of my girls lost their first teeth at 4 years old. Actually, the month my oldest DD turned 4 she lost 2 teeth!!! They both got their first teeth at 3 and 4 months old. By the time they were 8 months old, they had 8 teeth!! It's perfectly normal!

My DD had 4 wiggly teeth when I took her to the dentist at 4.5 but then they all stayed in there until after she turned 5. I just took her to the dentist and she has her 6 year molars in already and she is only 5.5 now.

My daughter, who is 5, just lost her first tooth yesterday. So the tooth fairly came last night. I think I was more excited than she was. I feel like she's growing up way too fast.... Yikes.

My son fell and knocked his front tooth out a few weeks before his 3rd birthday, which was also right before our most recent disney trip. :headache:

(Took all of the cushions off the couch climbed on them, then fell and hit his mouth on the frame of the couch. Knocked out the tooth, root and all) I'm happy to see after reading this post that he is not the only toothless preschooler out there! I think he is starting to develop a little bit of a lisp because of it though...

ETA: I almost forgot - the tooth fairy met us at the emergency room and gave us money to go directly to the Disney Store to get a surprise!

My older son lost his first tooth at 4y8m. He complained that it was hurting him in the morning and it fell out that evening. He's been losing them ever since. This Saturday morning he pulled out tooth #18 of his original 20 baby teeth. He turned 9 in February. And the remaining 2 baby teeth are also loose so I expect they will all be out before his 10th birthday.

Perfectly normal. And ds#1 got his first tooth at 4.5 month. Now ds#2 also got his first tooth at 4.5 months but the dentist says that he's nowhere near ready to lose a tooth. Probably not until at least 6.

The earlier they get their teeth..they earlier they loose them. It's also genetic. If you got you or your husband got or lost your teeth early..the same is likely for your kids.

I've had it both ways. My son had a tooth at 4 months. When he was drooling and fussy at three months, my mom told he was teething. I was convinced she was wrong..it was way to early..and then sure enough the following months he had two teeth! Go figure. They were falling out before Kindergarden.
At the other end..his baby brother..who is 11 years younger..didn't get a tooth until around 8 mos. and had to have his last baby tooth pulled at 13!..So go figure! There is no rhyme or reason to it.

My oldest's teeth came in early and fell out early. At 14, he's already had his wisdom teeth pulled!

my 7 yo still is waiting to loose her first tooth, she only has one wiggily one!:goodvibes

My daughter lost her first tooth at 2 ( in a bike wreck) , Naturally, the first one came out at 3 and 1/2. She is 6 now and has lost 10 teeth. The sentist says they all look good and not to worry!
