Ugh, I'm just starting some work on my demon dissertation.... Bearing in mind I'm struggling to think of a title things aren't looking promising!

I had that problem too Bob. Once I got the title I was Ok though, it gave me a focus.

How long do you have to write it?

I've got to start mine at the end of January and it goes on for 2 semesters (basically until the end of the Summer)

The last one I did was 50 pages + appendices - I'm expecting this to have to be larger because it's an MSc level one rather than BSc

Oh dear - I don't like writing things measured in words - 12,000 seems like a lot, especially for what is essentially an essay (albeit a giant one).

I've had enough fun trying to write 1,800 - 2,400 this weekend. I don't even want to think about the my final project yet!!!!!

When I did my BSc one, our "outline" was 10 pages, then we had an interim report at about 20 pages, followed by a final report at 50.

I don't think I have to write a dissertation as such (luckily), but I am expecting a large programming task and a report based upon it, which can end up being just as long as a dissertation, if not longer

I suspect they drive me mad for the opposite reason though - I take the word limit to be a guideline and try to get as close to it as possible. Usually, I struggle to get close for ages and I start getting quite stressed because of it.

The rules and advice for my BSc project were laughable though. The limit was 50 pages + appendices, so we were advised to just throw things into the appendices. If memory serves me write, I had about 50 pages official text, plus about 200+ pages in appendices by the end (a lot of that was program code though).

I really can't remember how long mine was. It was 12 years ago!! I do remember that 60% of my final grade went on my dissertation. 40% was dissertation and 20% dissertation prep an notes. The rest of my finals was other essay projects recording studio projects and a practical instrumental exam (I did a music degree). We were lucky in that we had no final written exams.

I'm losing count again - how many extra trips is that between January and September, or is this the first and you're extending September now instead of the ones you were mentioning yesterday.

No i decided not to have a extra trip and just extend my Septembe trip. If my friend wants to go in Summer then I will have to buy a AP.

I'm hoping she forgets the idea tbh. She likes to go on last minute trips and with the Eurostar i cant afford to do that, esp in Peak season.
